After the modulation (Chorus/Phaser/Flanger) but before Delay and Reverb is another great option. There are no rules, mess about and put it where it's good for you.

if you're splitting the signal to create multi-layer sound and the you have no option but to put the volume pedal right the next thing after your guitar. the effect's loop will not work for you.

You must be using a Passive Ernie Ball volume pedal since your Fender Strat has passive pickups. EB sells two versions one Active for Emg's and the passive for Fender stock pickups or other passive brand pickups.

So it still affects volume level either way. Depending on chain location it will or will not color the tone or raise and lower the amount of drive (gain) along with the volume level. But it is always a volume level control.

a good way to look at it. but really, volume level is expression as well. like picking harder to accent notes. if you have expression in you, it will come out wahtever you use. If you don't ,then stick with auto wah... tremolo, ect...

I would like to have the volume pedal after my overdrive, but I just have this huge dilemma that it is totally messing up the layout of my pedalboard so I choose to place it before the overdrive. I was thinking that maybe a loop switcher could solve that problem?

Can't you just route your cables around wherever you put the pedals. I've seen vol/wah right next to each other ,but not connected to each other. I couldn't fit my volume pedal on board so I ran a pwr clip out the side w/ the wah and just throw in a cable and connect with the pedal on the side. I do the same on the other side with a Looper pedal. How I dont have enough room. There's only 14 pedals counting pwr underneath. What the heck. I also got tap/ tempo sticking out lower side for delay. Guess that makes 16. O K Help I got G. A. S. real bad. P.S. (For those who don't know G gear A acquisition S syndrome).

No because the fx loop is in between the pre amp and power amp. The power amp also contributes the tone of your amp

Fender Bender as long as the amp is running clean it will do the same as in the FX loop, otherwise it will effect the input gain.
