Raj was so funny in the early seasons..... he was also funny in the mid and late seasons(idk about the last one because i didn't watch it). To me he was the character that didn't do a massive shift from start to end, Leonard was humble, shy, nerdy geek but in an adorable way, Sheldon was a know it all but didn't know social situations which he relied on Leonard for, Howard was the sex crazed nerd, Penny was the struggling actress who worked at a demeaning job and slept around, Bernadette was sweet, bushy tailed and wide eyed, Amy was like Sheldon plus horny. except for Raj(minus the no talking around women thing) he stayed pretty much the same. The others moved alot in terms of character "development" for the good and annoying...... my 2 cents.

they really fucked up the character of Raj and howard after Amy became a series regular. He was basically like an appendix that they tolerated on the show. Both he and howard formed a very strong Comedic Duo. In the earlier seasons we saw a lot of places where his foreign background provided a lot of comedic value, and created an interesting dynamic with the rest of the group. but they wanted to change they show to appeal more to women, so they made bernadette and Amy as main characters and now they had to reduce the role of Howard and Raj since the show would have been too full with main characters otherwise.
