Life changing video !!! This has eluded me for over 40 years and now ... "I get it" . Went to the range and had one of those fabulous Ah Ha moments over and over again by finally knowing what caused that last shot . So many times I've been left feeling ...wOw , great shot...wonder how that happened. Yep..distance, power, clubhead speed, repeatability with understanding, feeling of connectedness, ball compression feeling the ball "stick" on the face .... DYNAMACISM etc...

These two are the best, so calmly and nicely breaking down why you suck. This might be the one video every golfer should watch. Great information and the drills are doable. My swing feels simpler even though it is much faster. I was often playing golf off my back foot before, this brings the power. Pretty interesting to see a 10 mph jump in driver speed just through on-time weight transfer, which feels a lot earlier but is ultimately an easier swing to be consistent with. Fix this and a lot of other things are immediately cured.

Saw this video 2 months ago (July 2023). No video has ever helped me with the timing of my weight shift more than this. My swing thought is changed ever so slightly from what you illustrate. But it works: click, turn - click, hit. Thank you! I now find myself getting to my left side naturally and without forcing it late.

Every time I hear you guys say “Re-centering” it make me smile from total vindication, lol. Years ago I used to be called nuts when I said “These tour pros Re-center their point of rotation. Not sliding or swaying, literally shifting their center core of rotation where it allows the swing to stay in balance.” Well, not so nuts anymore, lol. That’s exactly what you guys have discovered and thankfully have taken that EXACT same term for its true meaning and instructional intention. If folks could focus specifically on keeping a straight spine, learn the proper way to make that weight shift, and be absolutely sure that shift happens BEFORE you finish the backswing, there would be a lot less balls to find in the woods, LMAO!!! It’s incredible how specifically important those three elements are to a swing that produces accurate ball flight. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

This was crazy helpful. Something that in reality had nothing to do with actually swinging the club made such a huge impact in how solidly I started striking my irons. Small little shift to the left foot towards the top of my backswing has been transformative. And you guys could not have explained it any better. Thanks.

I committed to swinging better this year and after watching some other channels wasn't believing. Been watching, drilling, and practicing the dynamic lateral movement you guys hammer on in almost every video in the garage nightly for 2 weeks. Moving slow really is the best way to learn. Hit a small bucket with mostly 7 irons last night and Wow! My 7 iron has never sounded so crisp. I'm confident with more practice the timing will come with the other clubs and get even better. Sharing your channel with anyone that'll listen. Thanks!

Pure poetry. I am doing this smooth move during the last 6 months because of your videos and it sends the ball a long way and straight. It feels like a more vertical one-piece takeaway feeling the coil in my back muscles. No more arm collapse hug. Then about 3/4 up I complete my backswing by letting the weight of my arms and right shoulder shift me easily back to center and then increasing weight on my left leg. By keeping that triangle area between my arms extended. I just stand up smoothly up with my left leg causing a big increase in the coil in my back muscles and hips on the downswing with passive arms and whoa do my wedges, irons, and hybrids fly long and straight. I can also use this for better distance control. What I need is to do now is move more consistently (flatter?) with my driver. Big thank you for your professionalism.

Really great! I’m a 9-13 handicap but have drifted out to 12 because I have developed an inability to hit my longer irons straight. A lot of work trying to stop flipping and get my ‘sway’ right and the foot pressure idea with a more natural movement like you pose in this video makes a lot of sense. I’ll hit the range before today’s round and try to get back to making it more natural. Now if I can figure out a way to not take deep divots when I shift forward, I’m on my way back.

Thoughts on the following: *dynamic shift counteracts the sway. While the movement forward doesn’t show up until late in the backswing, the recruitment of the muscles happens much earlier, it just takes time to turn the ship around and counteract the backward motion. *Getting back to the front foot pushes the arc of the swing forward allowing you to catch the ball on a more in to out path rather than cutting across the ball. *Likewise with the swing arc forward, the bottom of the swing will be more forward allowing for better contact.

This is good stuff. From the time I first swing the club as a child I was taught, incorrectly apparently, that you shift weight right on the backswing, complete the swing then shift weight left on the downswing. Every sport like baseball and tennis involve stepping forward as your still going back. It is a very dynamic and athletic move. Golf, like you guys mention, is no different. Thanks for clarifying what really happens in the swing.

Hi Gentlemen this is a fantastic videos for all of us golfers to fully understand what is going on inside our body as we are swinging our club back and forth Absolutely the shift( lateral motion) then turning towards center as professional golfers are doing in their backswing swing does occur easily and naturally and is extremely effective in producing the powerful torque energy all golfers; both amateurs and professionals: must have to execute a perfect downswing. Believe it or not our hip must turn totally naturally because of what the socket in our trail hip side does in affecting the twisting motion of our trail thigh muscles. Few golfers are aware of this and many fight this unknowingly. As the golfer swings their club back with their upper arms held close to their side; the muscles in their upper torso are twisting in one direction as their trail hip socket is twisting their trail thigh muscles in the opposite direction. This results in a natural shifting of the golfer weight as long as they allow it to happen and do not un flex their trail knee at the top of their swing The two countermoves of the golfer contracting muscles between their upper and lower is specifically what creates the torque inside their body to effectively do their ‘downswing’ to start with their trail knee bending forward to the conclusion of their swing. The only thing I disagree with is the deliberate shifting of the weight with the clicking down of the lead foot because in reality the relaxing then turn of the trail thigh muscles shifts the weight not the player deliberately shifting his weight on his lead foot. Get on your shifting board and you will see this for yourself. At the start of a golf backswing If a golfer were to focus on manipulating their by hips; swaying their body off center or shifting the weight on their back foot even a little too much as they are doing their backswing; they not only are loosing their balance; but lost the potential energy they needed to store up in their backswing as well. Cheers

Gentlemen, I have been watching your recenter/pressure videos the last few days and find them fascinating and eye opening. Today, I went out to the garage to hit a few while working on the step drills I have seen you guys do. After doing a bunch of step drills, I took some regular swings at half speed or so. I noticed that I was recentering too much at times and also my left side/ rear end was moving too much towards the target. I tinkered with it and things did improve. I totally get it when you say that golfers need to learn to do the pressure shift without huge shifts of mass. A question I have is if you recenter properly your about 50/50 weight distribution at the top, correct? Does this mean that I need to shift even more in the downswing or is that done once you recenter? Anyways, love the content even though some of it blows some thoughts I used to have on the golf swing out of the water. LOL.

just dawned on me the absolute IMPORTANCE of the bump away from target in the beginning and why it works so well. subconsciously your mind knows you cannot hit the ball past your shadow while moving away from it. It makes you put your weight into the hit.... you have no where to go but towards target. *** i was done an immense disservice by instruction of the late 90's early 2000's

i agree that the right knee moves to the right in the takeaway and that the swing recenters itself; but movement off the ball- lateral movement- is a different thing. hogan moved off the ball in his early days but was able to double back on the ball, in the second half of his backswing, getting his weight onto his left side. this, though, twists the spine to the left. and, that is not recentering. when a player recenters their spine isn't twisted to left at the top. when hogan hit his peak he didn't double back on the ball and he was in a level left position at the top. and, a player can't recenter if they don't create the right angle between their left arm and the club in the backswing. players who move off the ball tend to do this to compensate for the fact that they don't form the right angle. xander doesn't form the right angle but compensates by pressing down with the left side of his head. most amateurs, though, who had same the club left arm relationship, as xander, would most likely be pulled over to the right and reach the point of no return, and would not be able to double back on the ball in the second half of the backswing.

happy to see that.. just need a clarification, Weight Shift to left is naturally happen (when turning left shoulder up and around) or need to create for (to shift to left leg) to make this movement?

Still gotta make sure your weight is on the front foot as you work the shoulder up and around👍

Hi fellas, great video! I tried this at the range and contact with driver and 5 wood was awesome! But pitching wedge not as good. Do we shift the same amount irrespective of club? I thought it might have been too much with wedge but just guessing. Cheers.

Do you re center with the driver later in the swing later? By watching this video it seem that the pro shifted mostly to the left with the club above him.

Yessir. The re-center happens at the end of the backswing 👍

Would you say bigger shift with driver and gets small as the length of club shorter smallest shift with wedges. Thx

Focusing on 11:38 of video when Shaun is balancing on the board then shifting his weight down left-right-left-right-left-right. What body part(s) are generating this subtle shift in weight? Does the left knee bend slightly more while the right knee straightens slightly then the right knee bends slightly more while the left knee straightens slightly, and so on? Thanks!

For the most part, yes. It’s the weighting/unweighting of the feet 👍

Zen golf mechanics is preaching the same stuff. I think we're slowly circling back to very basic stuff which was obfuscated by 50 years of voodoo, and swing planes, and looking at pictures and then trying to derive a very basic, dynamic, throwing movement from single points in the swing. The era of robotic swings might be over. Now to hope that all the people poisoned in the meantime would be able to recover their more natural instincts when it comes to swinging a club.

One can shift 'load' but not weight. Maneuver or shift the center of pressure as well.

Weight is static. Weight CANNOT be transferred, only LOAD can. The ONLY way to 'move' or remove weight is to detach it. I suggest you read Physics for Dummies- Wylie Publishing.@@AthleticMotionGolf

I made a board like this and have been training on it but I am still confused about how to return my hips back to the sit up position without a push from my right foot/leg to get the shift going. It's easy to do it on the board, but flat ground I can't shift without a upper body tilt and that doesn't seem right. I'm trying to watch all your videos on shifting but I'm still feel confused and trapped with longer clubs. Is it wrong to wait for the shift to happen at the top of your swing?

You mentioned a “ figure 8” of sorts with your hips during the swing….I first heard this from Rob Akin many years ago. Think he was from same area as David Toms.

Great video! I have one of the boards and they are good for getting that feeling. Do you have any drill that you could share for someone who slides just a touch past neutral alignment on the lead leg on the downswing? I use the board but when I translate to normal swing I still slide a bit past…

Great video! Question- when guys like JT have their lead foot in the air when they hit the ball, would the board still be tilted toward the target even though the foot is off the ground?

It's off the ground after he's transitioned weight forwards and pushed up with left leg utilising ground force. So, yes, the board is still down on lead side.

Maybe I am thinking about this all wrong, but it feels to me (I know feel isn’t real) as if when I allow my lead leg to flex and my trail leg to straighten slightly as I reach the top of my backswing, the pressure seems to move towards my lead foot naturally. Am I mistaken?
