In today's video, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb of Athletic Motion Golf unveil the truth about shallowing the club as you've NEVER seen before.
In one of the deepest looks at shallowing in golf and external rotation you've ever seen, you'll be delivered undeniable data about shallowing that will likely change how you view the golf swing.
After much research, analysis, and experience the Athletic Motion Golf team shares their findings on shallowing and external rotation starting by looking at the shaft angle relative to the ground across swings from tour pros who've combined for over 400 wins including 28 wins in 2022 alone.
By looking at the golf swings of tour pros versus those of amateur players, it allows us to see shallowing of the golf club in an entirely new light.
We'll look at everything from the arms, shoulders, external rotation, lower body, and every aspect of the downswing and decipher shallowing and external rotation (or lack thereof)
in the golf swing.
You'll also be given a quiz that will prove that most amateur golfers are capable of shallowing like a tour-level pro, and we'll of course show you how you to can shallow your golf club like a pro!

Excellent information. I just this last 6 month figured out the correct golf swing with some lessons and then watching you guys that put it all together. What a difference in ball flight, distance and accuracy it has made. Wish I had known this 40 years ago. To stop coming ott totally changed my whole game. Even the club pro gave me a compliment on the driving range a couple days ago. Looking forward to spring.

How this isn’t the most subscribed to golf instruction channel on KZbin I’ll never know. This is absolutely ground breaking! Watching all of the videos on this channel has made me realize that one of the things that make pros so good isn’t that they have this ability to understand and execute the “complexity” of a golf swing, it’s actually their ability to simplify it. Watching this channel has opened my eyes to the fact that we have made the golf swing so much more complicated than it should be. You wouldn’t believe the crap I’ve tried to shallow my swing. Then here comes the AMG guys, “hey, just lower your arm in the downswing the same same way you raise it in the backswing” 🤯. In all seriousness, thank you so much for cutting through the noise and boiling this misunderstood move down and making it so easy to understand. The demonstration towards the end of how the right vs wrong arm movement looks in the standing position was absolute genius. Thank you so much for this video. This may do even more for me than the Shoulder Rotation and Arm Depth video and that’s saying something!

Funny story to your point… we had a gentleman about 3 years ago tell us he was a 3 handicap and would no longer watch videos because our “ideas” on the swing were too simple and not geared towards better players. That’s a living breathing example of what you just described. The reality is the better you get, the simpler things should be. NOT the other way around. Great post, BTW🙌

Wow. To separate the movements in the swing, then isolate them like you are doing, is revolutionary. You are true pioneers. Hi Mike, thanks for the superb video. I’m currently working with a leading teaching pro in the UK (works with a couple of tour players) and he agrees this is the best video he’s ever seen with regards the lowering of the shallow. Question: The only think confusing us both a little is the 20° supination. Do you think this is an automatic/subconscious action created by the weight of the club head in the transition? It feels like too much of an club face opener when actively trying to achieve. ie almost the opposite of closing the club face from the top. Cheers and keep up the superb work.

Another follow up from this video. I got it, it works. Added 10-20 yards to all clubs and shooting 80s not consistently! When I lose my swing I practice touching the club to the ground behind my trail foot before swinging towards the ball. This is the correct way to swing the golf club!

12:27 This might be my favorite demonstration ever of the arm movement in the downswing. It looks nearly identical to the "Justin Rose" drill. It seems to me that if you add some rotation and pivot to that, you'll be right on plane. It's awesome.

This is 🤯-ingly good! Being into 3D myself (arch-vis and non-related stuff) I've long wanted to see something similar to this. Extremely valuable. PLEASE, keep videos like this coming. I'm a self-learner that likes to think a lot about the swing and individual components (but I'm trying to get away from swing thoughts when actually swinging) and I love how videos like this VALIDATE some good thoughts I've had and simultaneously CLEARS the bad stuff letting me leave it behind without second guessing myself. I absolutely LOVE to see the correct trail arm movement here, that was one of my own "aha!" findings last season that I later left and moved on to other sensations (because it was "just something I found" and I didn't know if it was correct). This will make me double down on finding and truly ingraining this pro move. THANKS!

My right arm gets tired holding it in the standing up posture. It feels tight too. I actually am in fairly good shape and work out regularly. Apparently though, I'm not that strong at holding my upper arm up in a not-very-abducted posture for a while and moving it up and down though! Anyone else feel like it's pretty tight or tiring up there? Maybe that's why I tend to always overly abduct my right arm and then have it fall away from me in downswing!

The frame of reference is so amazing to help me understand the swing. I wish this was available 20yrs ago! Big difference in my swing but I noticed that the speed of lowering my right arm and straightening right elbow has to match my downswing shoulder rotation otherwise my hands will be out of sync. I had to learn to speed up my right arm movements. Is this correct? Thanks so much for all you do AMG!

Great vid and I really appreciate your commentary on the subjectivity (and likely inaccuracy) of simple video analysis. Your vids, layer modeling and observational insights helped me better understand the golf swing as an incredibly dynamic process incorporating physics of both a trebuchet (multiple levers) and a centrifuge (centrifugal forces). At the same time, this helped me move towards a more natural combination of movements and has been instrumental in my move from a high 20s to mid teens player over just a couple years. I continue to improve more and faster via AMG you tube than I ever have with any other approach, including but hardly limited to, 106 books on golf As a range rat for decades, I have hit A LOT OF BALLS. Since I found AMG early this autumn, I find myself hitting fewer balls, but hitting them much better. In 2023, the range might see a drop in revenue 😉 If I had to summarize AMG to someone in an "elevator speech" .. I'd say Through 3d analysis of the best swings on the planet, 2 guys with a ton of experience, and a healthy dose of humility and humor, show what is REALLY GOING ON in the golf swing. This approach has led to their greatest gift to me personally ... CORRECTED CONCEPTS Huge thumbs up again to AMG. By far the best quality golf instruction content online. This specific video was remarkable in the richness of content. Even a touch overwhelming. But given the hold that "shallow" currently has in the instruction world, such depth as you provide here, including a "lets get our terms defined" section, is necessary to begin to shape a different discussion. A discussion that respectfully challenges what has almost become "shallow orthodoxy". Knowing you guys, you'll absorb all the feedback in the coming weeks, and sharpen an already excellent video with a touch of simplification/clarification.

Got up the next day, watched the video a couple of times, did the drills again and decided to go out even though the wind was sustained 15mph with 30 mph gusts. I hit about every shot with much better contact and was 6 strokes better than my last outing in perfect conditions. Keep up the great work!

Fantastic video guys - very clearly explained. Only channel you need to watch for the golf swing. I think you should do a similar video for the backswing especially the lower body and how it works.

Wow what a game changing video. I had watched some of your other shallowing videos but didn’t get it until this video. My arm over abduction on the backswing was creating a slight across the line/over rotation that I couldn’t recover from without getting steep. I was trying everything but keeping my trail an arm in front of my body fixed like 3 swing faults at once. I can’t wait to drill this into muscle memory. Thank you!!!

So I commented video yesterday, but I took this concept of unfolding/lowering of the right arm to the course, and I played LIGHTS OUT. You've gotta do this for each body part. I'm just so blown away by how helpful this was.

Omg ... Talk about a 💡 moment. I have struggled for a long time as a left-handed person playing golf right-handed. I have searched far and wide for information to help me understand the feel and motion of the trail arm correctly. Just the other day my wife videoed me on the course, and although the result was good, I was horrified at what I saw. In any case, listening to you in great detail explain the pro movement of the right arm, shoulder, elbow and how it is basically reversing what has occurred in the backswing, I literally cannot wait until our next round in a couple days. The 3D image of the pro golfer, and the isolated arm movements are, to me, a godsend. I spent most of today working on this move in front of a mirror, and then hit some balls in the field behind our house with a lob wedge. I am under no illusion that this is going to take hold immediately, but I can say some of my results were pretty immediate and extremely encouraging in both quality of strike and distance, without much effort at all. I can only imagine what could be possible working on this, drilling this over and over until it is mastered as you say. Thank you so much for this, I finally now feel as if I understand the trail arm movement. I think possibly some people may feel that the downward movement of the arm and unfolding of the elbow may lead to casting. I'm thankful that I have a strong left arm and wrist to prevent that without thinking about it basically. In any case, the title does say it all, shallowing like you've never seen before. I will be referencing this video and several others of yours in the future. Again, Thank You!!

This particular video is the SHIZZZLE!!!! Watch it; went to the range with my LiveViewGolf camera; and BINGO! SPOT ON after a few minutes. Gonna take some reps to bring it up to full speed but the difference in my before / after video is amazing. All of AMG's stuff is ridiculously good but this particular video is the best I've ever seen on the topic of "shallowing" or actually getting a golf club on plane in the transition / downswing. Thank you for all the hard work putting it together Mike. A+++++ JOB!

Best video of all time from you guys - Mike Malaska also shows this but not with the data and example. I saw his left shoulder stay turned and it is just a matter of inches. Right side and arm come down CLOSE to body and club and handle stays in center of torso going back coming down and turning thru - master that and you have smash factor rates just like the pros with what ever swing speed you can generate which has to due with holding that lag and weight transfer and pushing away from arms - like the snap of a towel. You guys rock glad to pay you to be a member so you can produce these videos and help the masses. Mike Malaska is pretty cool too.

I’ve been working on shallowing club for YEARS and finally got it figured out thanks to you guys. The old method I was using not only didn’t work, but it also gave me horrible elbow pain in my trail arm. If you guys can use this 3D AMG model in all your future videos, I’d love it. It’s so insanely helpful seeing him in the “straight ahead view with no hip bend or rotation”
