The amount of speculation in this video far exceeds the normal dosage. I look at minor details and turn them into giant important plotpoints and you can't stop me!

The vampire language is actually Etruscan, a very ancient proto-Italian language.

I read something about that but I couldn't pinpoint it as well as the Welsh from the Elder Speech. Would love to see some fan translations of people that know Etruscan though, could be very interesting!

Its a greeting to show respect to a vampire and give an offering, you cna understand this by reading the Mage who comes to research about Vampires and Conjunction Sphere influence in the cave. The mage was instructed by his seniors to offer a crystal and greet when he meets the elder, but he was unable to see the elder and perished before that.

I can read limited Etruscan, but haven't had any real verbal experience with it -- here is one of the resources I'd used ages ago to wrap my head around engravings on etruscan pottery: etruskisch.de/pgs/gr.htm It's always been useful at least for refreshing the memory on how some of the grammar rules and such when I get mixed up over how much of etruscan's alphabet is more similar to greek than latin.

You learn, that the golden rule of no vampire killing none of his kind derived from a war amongst them, iirc. The armor might have been used within this war.

During the first part of the video when you where looking over the inscriptions on the cave walls, I can't but helped to imagine what the vampiric homeworld looked like, I imagine a grey/black world in a perpetual twilight 'round most of the planet, thick clouds of space dust and large asteroids spin in an ever present ballet around with the planet as they circle a red star, painting their thick atmosphere a more purple color where it is able to hit, it's light filtered and reflected by the dust and asteroids, the plants would be blacks and purples and reds, designed to gather as much of the suns rays that actually hit the planet, pure and unfiltered through like Jacobs's ladders for only a few minutes. Many of the plants would probably be parasitic or carnivorous, feasting on what it could. Most life on the planet was likely in two branches, near immortal like the vampires, or hardy and strong, with thick hides and armor, like the scales bird horse, who where likely beast of burden, with cultural significance attached to them, with the way they can move i images that vampires had large cities that perfectly amalgamated Greek, Egyptian, proto-Italian, and gothic architecture. Built on high cliffs or deep ravines, where non but they could get to so they where not harassed by large titanic beast, hundreds of stories tall, like amalgamations of humans, giraffes, and dragons, large claws and teeth like beaks to protect itself durning its mating season, they they acted mostly as large skeletal creatures more like living pullies, with large fanlike/Lilly pad like head pediments that caught water and grew plants with thin antenna that rose in the suns rays with polyps that reached with small antennae all over them, grabbing as much sun as possible to photosynthesis and fuel its massive body, all and all, a dangerous and exciting world with few but successful grazers and feared and fierce predators, and landscapes dotted with the most beautiful architecture you would ever see. ... I kinda went on about that lol sorry *after watching the video more, you mentioned ye glowing plants and I can 100% see that being a thing and it's been added to my head cannon of the vampiric home world

If your speculation is correct and the champion of Tesham Mutna was indeed a human who served vampires then its likely that the "flock" that the champion was meant to protect referred to a flock of humans that vampires decided to keep as free range.

There is another depiction of a chimera, near the Gran' Place in Beauclair. When you head straight south from the Gran' Place, there is a mural on the left side in a pathway through a house right south of the big square in the center of Beauclair. This chimera looks a lot different than the one in the cave of the Unseen Elder though, it has a lion's body and head, a goat's head on it's back and a snake as a tail. Also, it has no wings. I don't know, if this is in any way related to the chimera in the cave, but it could indicate that there are at least two types of chimera. Or this type is just a fantasy animal, like the Phoenix (as Geralt said once in the books). Also the Ouroboros symbol Regis wears on his glove isn't the only one there is. The necklace he wears (it it is a necklace) also shows Ouroboros, but there it curls round a square. I have no idea how this could possibly be linked to the other symbol with the triangle and the three circles, though. And last but not least I find it quite interesting that the offering to the Unseen Elder must be an aragonite crystal. Anyways I enjoyed the video, Greetings from Germany

Gray Fox 2109 nah, mate. Geralt only beat detlaff because he was holding back, and even then it took the assistance of a higher vampire to kill him. True higher vampires are literally invincible to anyone other than another of their kind, and the unseen elder terrified a higher vampire. Not to mention that he kills geralt as easily as breathing if you irritate him.

@@jamesforgie6594 Where are you getting the idea that Detlaff was holding back? Against Regis sure because he didn't want to kill him, but he absolutely wanted to kill Geralt. I doubt the Unseen Elder could be defeated by Witchers in direct combat, but there are likely powerful monsters who could do the deed, and I imagine people could devise some method to defeat him indirectly.

Hey, I've seen someone mention a theory about the second world you travel through during the "Through Time and Space" quest. That the "gas world" might be the vampire homeworld. After you run through the first part of the green gas and go over to the pillar there is a skull hanging on it. While it could be anything of course, I think it looks very similar to the horse-dragon creature that you mentioned. And it's hanging there for some reason - someone tied it with a rope there. And that picture of the creature in the Unseen Elder's cave makes me think, if it is the same creature, it might be of cultural significance to vampires? What are your thoughts? Have you seen it before?
@tristanedward3287
@tristanedward3287 6 жыл бұрын
Holly Jane really good theory there definitely had to be something to hang that skull there. But at the same time the cave passage to their world from ours is supposed to somewhat hint at what their world was like. The gas planet looks nothing like a world of ancient vampire civilizations considering there's no resemblance to the actual cave passage and its gaseous? There's nothing mentioned by the vampires of their world being toxic, and what sort of radiation resistance they would need to survive there, etc. It seems unlikely.

On the properties of a vampire's bite, I would imagine it works similarly to a vampire bat's. Vampire bats aren't venomous, per say, but their saliva contains an anti-coagulant chemical that prevents the prey's blood from clotting, meaning they can drink as much as they want without the blood flow stopping. It also numbs the pain, to the point that many animals won't even notice when a vampire bat has bitten them. Even in the Witcher universe, the connection between vampires and bats is well known, as many of the lesser vampires are essentially giant, humanoid bats, not to mention that huge swarms of bats seem to flock to areas of high vampire activity.

if I had to assume a way vampires improved their knights above men could be by letting them drink the vampire blood. the kind of "ghoulification". which is not uncommon in vampire stories, vampire drinking your blood and you theirs turns you into a vampire, while human drinking vampire blood turns them into a ghoul.

Another thing that comes to mind after they mention "drinking another vampire" is the idea of diablerie from "Vampire: the Masquerade" setting, also highly forbidden amongst part of vampire population. whitewolf.wikia.com/wiki/Amaranth_(VTM) "Diablerie, also called the Amaranth, is a term used by vampires to describe the act of drinking another cainite's blood and drawing their soul into one's own."

One thing that disappointed me about B&W was that the history of Toussaint & vampires never became a major plot point. I was convinced that the genealogy of Toussant’s love for wine; was that the Vampires who ruled Toussant (essentially using it as a farming ground) became connoisseurs of the different flavours of wine-tinged-blood. We know Vampires can like a drunk person’s blood from the oxenfurt quest in the base game. I was hoping the main quest would lead to a big revelation that like half of the gentry of toussant were vampires, and it could have been an interesting decision to let them continue farming the humans (and keeping Toussant peaceful) or going to war against them, even though it would ultimately make life in Toussant less peaceful.

Perhaps the higher vampires all agreeing unanimously not to kill each other has less to do with homeworld traditions and more to do with the fact that their was only so many of them currently in their new world and I got a feeling that higher vampires either don't reproduce often given how long they live or there's just particular circumstance that rarely aline to be able to reproduce.

While Jörmungandr is depicted in mostly the same way as Ouroboros, it doesn't really seem to have a symbolic meaning to line up with what it might mean to Vampires (eternity, the cycle of life and death, etc.). Ouroboros is a known concept in the Witcher world whereas Skellige (which has a great many Norse influences with there being a figure like Heimdallr and Freyja. But Jörmungandr is never mentioned even when discussing the Ragnarök.

Bird i have a question, why does geralt and every other witcher have cateyes in the games, but not in the books?
@ProperBird
@ProperBird 7 жыл бұрын
He does have cat eyes in the books, although it's really not mentioned a whole lot. And they only glow in the dark. Here's a few quotes for reference: The Last Wish - Geralt; "The witcher shaded his eyes with his hand in an unnecessary, instinctive reflex which he had never managed to shake off - all he needed to do, after all, was narrow his pupils into vertical slits." The Last Wish - Geralt; "He entered carefully, opening it just enough to slip inside. It was dark, so he dilated his pupils. And wrinkled his nose." The Last Wish - Yennefer; "'May I?' She touched his cheek and looked him in the eyes. He clenched his jaw. 'Do your pupils automatically adapt to light or can you narrow and dilate them according to your will?'" Sword of Destiny - Dandelion; "What of it that you have quicker reflexes than most and vertical pupils in sunlight? That you can see in the dark like a cat?" Sword of Destiny - Calanthe; "And I've come to the conclusion that the selection of the children at the stage of the Choice has scant significance. What difference does it make, in the end, Geralt, which child dies or goes insane, stuffed full of narcotics? What difference does it make whose brain bursts from hallucinations, whose eyes rupture and gush forth, instead of becoming cats' eyes?" Season of Storms - Sorel Degerlund; "He forbid me however to kill you. He needs your eyes. To be more precise: he needs tapetum lucidum, the layer of tissue on the inside of your eyeballs, which amplifies and reflects the light directed at the photoreceptors, thanks to that, like a cat, you see in the darkness and in the night." Season of Storms - Description of Brehen, school of the cat; "He had grey hair, like ash, at the temples mixed with white strands. An ashen face. A hooked nose. And bright yellow eyes with vertical pupils."

I just started Reading the last wish and when he is preparing for freeing the cursed princess he drinks cateye and it discribes him as "is pupils are dialeted" but cateye pupils can maby also dilated 🤔

The cat potion just forces his pupils to dilate for the duration of the potion's effect and it also enhances the effect quite a bit. When a cat sits in the dark, their pupils also dilate entirely. ^^

Given the sparse information we have about higher vampires, it's hard to say anything about them with any real certainty... I am a longtime-biology-nut though (hat's my flimsy excuse for speculating anyway lol) from that perspective I can't help but think that the homeworld of the vampires is a probably a very harsh, unforgiving place: In fact, the unreal regeneration, their nocturnality, the ability to eat all sorts of things and not die... I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it turned out that they weren't exactly at the top of the food chain back home. Those aren't the adaptations you tend to see in apex-predators, and definitely not all combined within a single species like this.

I like the parallels between tesham mutna and the modern way of humans torturing animals in those awfull ways they force them to live. It shows that humans are not better and that we have to change and treat animals with respect. Not consuming and hurting them for some food, since we dont need to do that - its wrong to hurt a living being, no matter if human or not. Great video btw. You really go into detail

The vampires seem to have an Etruscan language mixed with an Assyrian visual style. Compare that "stained-glass" with the Assyrian tree of life and the depiction of the Elder to Assyrian carvings.

And the elves thought they were an advanced race, Witcher universe vampires make both races look like children.

thing is, vampires as a species would be too unsustainable, so maybe, they only live so long in the Witcher world and not theirs. Kinda like superman

Tesham Mutna armor set was never worn by vampires. That letter is from a human; a human subservient to the vampire tribe. Selected by vampires to guard his own species. Master to other human captives, slave to the vampires. This is a mature depiction of vampires, them being smth akin to alien invaders enslaving "lesser" species in their early years in that world.

night to remember trailer Orianna bites geralt and you can tell it greatly weakens him. of course he let her bite him so she would get the black blood flowing in his veins and weaken herself too. so the theory of poisons might be right but it could also be some sort of fantasy weakening thing
