Outside of being a subtle advertisement for your product, it is a good reminder that protection and comfort on a bike also depend on smaller items. I have 3 gaiters : a fleece-lined for winter, a GTX windbreaker, and a very light FPS50 for warmer days. It makes a hell of a difference on longer trips, reducing noise, chafing, the pain caused by insects and small objects hitting your neck at 90+ kph.

I don't want to be a keyboard warrior, but the main reason pilots wore scarves back in the day was because the engines were externally lubricated with castor oil. As a human, if you consumed some of this oil it meant the immediate need for a bathroom, so the scarf was essentially a filter for the oil and of course bugs during take off and landing. Don't believe everything the movies tell you. Love the new neck gator, been using one for years, definitely a piece of must have kit!
@TheZackyy Жыл бұрын
I have a similar stretchy scarf and I use it as a balaclava too. Goes over the top of the head and into the helmet - prevents ears from getting stuck, doesn't hurt after long rides and doesn't irritate. Perfection!

I wear a balaclava whenever I ride. A thin one for summer and a thick one for winter. Just makes the helmet fit more snug, protects my neck from the sun, makes it easier to take my helmet on/off, and plus - it looks cool
@Jonathan-L Жыл бұрын
Balaclavas are part of my riding kit too. I use thin ones all year round, as the climate here isn't too cold in winter. I find the balaclava helps prevent me ripping my ears off when I put my helmet on, plus it's long enough to prevent sunburn on my neck. I have an assortment of colours, and they're quite cheap from Aliexpress. Furthermore, I also wear a neck collar, which cost about $11 from a pharmacy, sold as a 'cervical collar'. This is the cheap fix to killing helmet wind noise, and I wish I had discovered it years ago. Not only does the reduction of wind noise make riding more enjoyable, but it's warm in winter. I shall wait another 6 months before I get to test it in summer. I still wear custom molded earplugs of course, so the combination of year plugs & neck collar work really well. Not long ago I was contemplating buying a new Nolan helmet with the wind 'skirt', but the neck collar was cheap and effective. It was about a tenth of the cost of a NOJ 'Quiet Rider'.

About 25 years ago, when I first started racing off road, I had a new fire suit that was super stiff. After 6 hours in the car, the harnesses and suit conspired to chafe my neck to the point of bleeding. I hopped out at a pit, tore the sleeves off my shirt, stretched the hell out of them, and pulled them over my head to cover up the bleeding hickeys on the sides of my neck. It was a spur of the moment fix that forevermore became part of my race day clothing. I never thought about the history of the scarf for pilots, or even using it while riding a motorcycle, but I can tell you the misery of that first race was real and the idea makes perfect sense. Thanks for another great video.

Yes this is a manufacturer recommended alternative. The medical grade ones are best, so try to steal it from someone with serious cervical problems. ~RF9

I like that Fortnine is finally coming to the party with these. I got tired of tube scarves bunching up at the back making it uncomfortable to look up, so I abandoned them a couple years ago in favour of a triangle shaped one. You can get "ice silk" ones fairly cheap many online places and the better ones have an extra bit of elastic material at the top to keep it over your nose or between your bottom lip and chin (my preferred position). They wick (and cool) great, protect from UV and prevent the strike of a wasp or June bug at 120kph from breaking the skin.

Neck gaiter is essential when the weather gets cold. I always carry one. Found a really nice light stretchy neck gaiter on a hiking trail years ago.

I love the neck gaiter. Unfortunately I cant spend $42.66 on yours. Too expensive with shipping and VAT to Sweden. Even though it should be no VAT from Canada.. :) Im going to continue using mine instead. And yank the neck thing from the helmet.

Ah bummer about the added cost to Sweden! I wouldn't spend $42.66 for one either. We'll try to get some European distribution options in the future :) ~RF9

Scarves are a must for winter riders. But especially useful for open face helmet riders regardless of the season. It can be worn with any helmet though. I approve this message.

I started riding in my teens and I'm in my mid sixties now. Early days, I ran into a wasp and it managed 3-5 stings in the time it took to get out off my neck. I now always wear neck protection of some sort. I have a 'chill out' balaklava. It's meant for cold days but it wicks away sweat and tucks inside my jacket. I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates this type of protection.

So true... I always use a buff even in the middle of the summer enduro riding.. 1. To protect my neck from brambles in the bush and other hazards. 2. Over the mouth to filter out the dust from other riders. Take of the goggles when it's hard to breathe...

I just got one of these neck gators a couple of months ago, and it's worked well to keep me comfy and warm while being blasted with chilly Canadian winds. I frequently forget I'm still wearing after going inside until it's so warm that I need to take it off. It's so small and light that I just keep it in my pocket until I need it. I am never using my amazon cheapo face covering again, unless it's so cold that i need to wear it over the f9 neck gaiter 😂 👍

It also takes the sting out of being hit by flies and other insects while driving. My 2 faves that fit and are longer than average are one of the Buff winter ones and Itchy Boots branded offering. One refinement I have made to my winter wardrobe is to wear two; not overlapped but in series, stacked. Means I get full coverage, whatever happens.

I always wear a white and black silk scarf...it was my dad's biker scarf since the 1950's, and still cleans up well :) I've tried loads of other designs and materials, but nothing beats it.

A neck gaiter was the first thing I was given when I took my motorcycle tour in Nepal. It reduces dust, cools in the heat, warms in the cold, and has half a dozen configurations. I haven't ridened without it since. ❤

This "neck gaiters" is called "buff" in my country and yeah they're pretty versatile and you can't go without it once you tried them on, other alternative might be the Balaclava if you prefer a full on facial coverage.

Didn’t make it over to Amazon in time to grab one of these, darn it! In addition to all of the wonderful attributes this essential piece of gear includes, it appears to have the power to imbue it’s owners, or even those contemplating ownership, with Fortnine-like wit and wisdom. Now that’s a great product!!!

Interesting, I scarf up for the past 25 years now, tube scarf for the past 20. Hunter Orange is my some favorite for warm month and fleece gaiter for the cold month. Pro tip for the fleece gaiter is to spay it with silicone water repellent, so it won't soak up rain so easily.
@herethere2518 Жыл бұрын
Been part of my cold-weather kit from the start as a carryover from my general winter gear. Small/packable, surprisingly warm yet relatively easy to remove. I also find that gaiters are a great thing to keep on the bike; protect the ankle gap and shin when cold and gets you through occasional showers. Of course, I tend to ride in carhartts & hiking boots rather than specific moto gear.

Started Wearing Gators a little bit after i started to transfer to road bikes, Wore it once with a 3/4 helm and been wearing it ever since, 10/10 would recommend, The road is WORSE than doing Enduro cross and it was surprising. After that I Played around with Different gators, Scarves, and Balaclavas, But the best has to be this Shemagh i picked up, Easy to put on/Tie up (with the helmet On or Off), Completely covers the Neck and chest, Restricts air from coming UP from the Chin (best in cold Climates), and Overall thick and padded enough to dampen damage from rocks flying at 80 miles an hour Directly to your neck.

Been riding since I started with a lightweight balaclava and it’s great. I have earrings so it eliminates pulling in them when I take my helmet off and I don’t really sweat in it either even in 25 degree Celsius weather unless you are just sitting there baking in the sun for long periods . When it gets chilly on night rides here in Ontario it’s great to pull it up to cover my face so I don’t have a runny nose
