6*(n-2)^2, where n = no of sides in given cube

That does not give 54... n =6 so 6 * (6-2)^2 = 6 * 16 = 96

Hello Ganesh, n is not the number of sides of a cube. n can be the number of smaller cubes that the large cube is made of. Here n=5. Best wishes for your GMAT preparation!!
