What a great message for the world today. we have so many different voices in the world that want to discredit the Church and the Prophet and Apostles.

And, unfortunately, some of those many voices are coming from among the membership of the church thinking they "know" how the church should be led. Sad

So far as I can recall, the scriptures don't recount any instances of the Lord's prophets leading his people astray. However, there are MANY instances that demonstrate clearly what happens when people decide that the prophet and leadership are off-track and have gone astray! We would be very wise to take to heart the lesson, and NOT fall into that trap, which is the road that leads to apostasy, and this has been demonstrated abundantly, time after time

One small but significant difference: the scriptures do, indeed, mention people not heeding the prophets. I don’t believe the reason is ever given that the prophets were viewed as being off track. We don’t really have a playbook for addressing prophetic error as rank-and-file members. The scriptures also do not model discernment of prophetic utterances in gray areas. We do have Nephi receiving personal revelation to kill the defenseless Laban, which should put a whole ton of lesser situational exceptions on the table. But the best example of gray areas is Christ expertly navigating doctrinal traps set for him, which responses consistently upset the more conservative Pharisees. Frankly, I see very little effort within church culture to strip away pharisaical hedging to focus on what one sees as the true spirit of the law. We are pharisaically compliance-focused.

@BlueShirtWithATie We do in fact have prophetic utterances on the matter. Wilford Woodruff declared that the Lord will not allow the prophet to lead the church astray. The pharisrees are different case. By the times of the pharisees, they no longer had prophets! But there have always been "pharisees", and church members who want to find pretext to not follow the prophet, and to insist that he has gotten off track! It's the road to apostasy! From time immemorial Satan has been known as the "accuser of the brethren"

The Woodruff quote was him literally leading the church astray, in their minds. 6 Months before that quote he said, “The Lord will never give a revelation to abandon plural marriage”. I agree though that there is a different between astray and mistakes. This does mean though that if a leader is wrong then we are obligated to correct the mistake and help them to not be wrong in the future.

I appreciate your comment. Right before the whole V debacle for COVID, the Prophet clearly stated that we need to get our OWN revelation and HEAR HIM. Many people didn’t put that together and left the church. It makes me sad.

I think the majority of the people in the church with solid testimonies understands this. However....this recent situation in D.C has me questioning the prophet. How is it that a vouple if homosexual men who are "married" ( which Dallin Oaks once said the church does not recognize marriage between same-sex couples as such) who, are sexually active , hold callings and take the sacrament. This is a fundamental breaking of the Law of Chastity. What, then, is wrong with a heterosexual couple engaging in sexual activity outside of marriage? As a covenant single adult woman, I would be either excommunicated or dis-fellowshipped, not allowed to pray or take the sacrament much less hold a calling. And with this.....crickets from the Brethren. I would think that church discipline would be something warranted for the local leaders and Charlie and his "bride". I'm beyond hurt and incensed at the blatant disregard for Doctrine. I truly don't know what to do with this.

You are not alone. ❤ The way I deal with this stuff is this: Jesus Christ is still the head of the church and God is at the helm. There are Many things happening I don't agree with or understand. But I Refuse to allow any of it take me out. Come what may, I'm staying in the boat! I hope this helps. God bless us all to hold on until He gets here and straightens this all out.

Superb analogies. My inactive brother would say, will isn't that convenient that the prophet can decide what he wants to follow today and call it revelation. I know that the Prophet is receiving revelation, his fruits speak louder than words!

No kidding. The most common denominator I've seen with former saints is they're almost always perfectionists. Listen to every issue they have with the church or leaders or member's. The pattern is always an over exaggerated nit pick at imperfections.

Amen to that. Nephi tells us the true doctrine of Christ and it is so simple. We are to repent, be baptized and follow his example and that will take us to live with Him. Jesus even taught this doctrine and He said we are to do the things we have seen Him do. It isn't all this stuff we do in the temple and all the hoops we have to jump through in the church. No place does it talk about in the scriptures that we have to sustain men as prophets, seers and revelators. I haven't found where it tells us that there are sins that Christ could not atone for so the person has to spill their own blood in order to be forgiven the way Brigham taught. No place that I have found where we are taught that we can't get into the celestial kingdom unless we are sealed to more than one woman the way Brigham taught. For that matter Jacob2 tells us that polygamy is a crime and an abomination to God. I am still trying to find where the three degrees of glory is talked about.

The Brethren do not lead the Church astray: the administrators and middle-management are the ones responsible for ruining the Church.

@TO-Aloha
@TO-Aloha 11 ай бұрын
@@taylorsessions4143 , not local leaders-the administrative bureaucracy of the institution, which has no accountability, primarily Correlation and the CES. If we judge by the fruit, the orchard is barren, the trees are unkept, and the congregation is scattered and starved. The Utah-centric LDS Establishment is responsible for the exodus en masse, from the Church.

COMPLETELY AGREE with this!! I have read church material Not written by our prophets and or leaders that actually went against scripture. Our prophet won't lead us astray but definitely those who work the church writings tend to lean toward a bias that shouldn't exist.

@@StompMom5 No, Sorry but this is incorrect. It all comes down to the leaders no matter how much a person may want to let them off the hook. The leaders have to give the Okay for what goes on with the others just like the mess at BYU. The leaders are responsible for leading the church.

I'm definitely not a Brigham fan or any early leader after Joseph. However.... their actions don't shake my testimony of the gospel now. We have to remember who Jesus Christ is and not confuse the leaders with Christ. I know Nelson is a prophet. I sustain all 15 and I'm grateful for them.

Section 42 and 49 tell us that it is one man and one woman and to cleave unto your wife and none other. The original section 101 in the 1835 edition of the D&C said one woman for one man. Jacob2 tells us that a man should have only one wife and no concubines. He even called it a crime and an abomination to God. I wonder how Brigham justified preaching and living polygamy. Jacob2 also tells us not to put ourselves above others and we must care for the needy. While members in early Utah were starving, some of them even to death, and living in tiny cabins and huts Brigham was building many mansions for himself, not just the Lion house and the Beehive house but in all at least 12 and possibly more, Brigham and the other members of the hierarchy were living like kings. At what point do we stop calling a sin a mistake?
@icecreamladydriver1606

Here is a little bit more: Are you familiar with the Adam/God doctrine that Brigham taught up until he died? Are you familiar with the blood atonement that Brigham taught the people. Please go to Journal of Discourses and go to vol. 4 page 219 and start on the right hand column. It continues on the next page. We have not been taught the whole truth about the church that Brigham turned the original church into. Nor the who truth about Brigham. God be with you.
@ARKOFOURSAFETY
@ARKOFOURSAFETY 7 ай бұрын
The Lord commanded Joseph Smith to build, arguably the most expensive building in early America at a time while most of the church was struggling putting food on the table. Was the Kirtland Temple not supposed to be built until everyone got rich? You are ignoring the fact that Brigham helped the poor his whole life and suffered and starved with the Saints during the entire trek west. He did much to build up Zion and colonized the church. Are you saying that you should not have a nice house unless everyone in your community has one? Also what the scriptures say can be revised or obsoleted based on additional revelation. Peter talks about Christ visiting the spirits in prison. In Section 138 we learn he didn't actually go to the spirit prison but commissioned messengers to go and visit. You have to have a flexible faith being in the restoration and give the Prophets some slack. I like the analogies of Parents. Prophets don't claim to be perfect and we should not hold them accountable for something they didn't claim. Prophets are striving and making course corrections. Nephi rejected God's counsel twice in trying to get the brass plates. Should we discount everything he said?
@icecreamladydriver1606
@icecreamladydriver1606 7 ай бұрын
@@ARKOFOURSAFETY I am sorry you are so confused. Brigham only did enough for the poor to make it look like he was doing somethin. I will not excuse his wickedness nor will let him or any other church leader escape responsibility for the things they have done wrong. I don't expect anyone to be perfect but you do not know the men you think you should follow. You only know what the church wants you to know. Don't you even realize the church is still under condemnation? That is in the D&C. Look it up and learn. Start reading the Book of Mormon through open eyes and not the eyes you have been taught to see with. Read Jacob2 for goodness sake and you will learn how God feels about polygamy. Then go from there. God be with you and open your eyes to the "awful" situation we are in.
