I am 66 years old now. When I was 19 at BYU. I took a religion class from Cleon Skousrn at BYU. I loved it so much that I took 2 more of his classes. In one of them he taught for a several classes in a row on this principle. He called it God Science. I was stunned. I marked every scripture and linked to the next scripture with notes in the margins. It changed me forever. So grateful bro Skousrn shared this with us. I soooo love Jesus the Christ. His great work of creation, loving us and then sacrificing His blood and life for us to atone forever for us. This is the most important thing that was ever done in our universe. I will love Him forever and our Father and His plan, that not only created us, but saved us and provided a way to exalt us if we but do our small part. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb.

@@MunroMurdock He was amazing.. I sooooo loved his classes.. I would come early, get out my scriptures and his study books and then my pens for notes and get ready to zoom along with him.. He was quite a thinker.. and would stop and make comments as he went.. and chuckle a little here and there, with many antidotes to this and that story.. I remember him coming into the classroom.. and walking to the lectern and putting his books down and looking up at all of us 'kids' and smiling.. He was such a humble and great man at the same time. I had already read his whole 1000 year series in HS.. and knew how his mind worked a bit.. so I followed along with him easily.. some of the others didnt follow so easily.. but I was well primed and just LOVED his classes.. I can remember him talking of the prophets and their great power for good and a few other things.. But I deeply remember him talking of 'God Science" and the great power of our God and His great work for us. Bro Skousen spoke with such love for Jesus Christ, for our Constitution and for our leaders.. Very grateful memories here.

This was by far the best explanation for me to understand on a deeper level of what our Savior did for us, Thank you for your brilliant work in sharing truth in such a powerful way!

Question for you if you don’t mind. I’ve become quite curious of the Mormon religion. Something I don’t understand however is the fact that the atonement isn’t addressed in this video. He just says that Jesus died so that the intelligences would see how much we mean to him therefore they, the intelligences, allow us to go to Heavenly Father. Here is my question. Why worship Heavenly Father when he cannot actually save us according to this video? It is the permission of the intelligences. Why not worship those instead?
@sukt0012 күн бұрын
That’s a good question, and probably (I haven’t found a specific rebuttal yet) a reason why this isn’t doctrine. This is Skousen’s opinion on how the atonement functioned, but of the people I’ve asked about this talk, none have known it. Podcasters I’ve seen when this idea of the atonement is mentioned reply with a chuckle and an eyebrow raised “yeeeaah”. So take from that what you will. It’s a good idea, but the how and why Christ is the only one that can save is a mystery as far as I’ve found. Maybe the intelligences are more of a function than a thinking thing, but then why would they respond to mercy? There’s probably doctrinal issues I’m not even thinking of, maybe.

I agree the atonement is powerful! Praise God for sending his Son who is also God to die on the cross for us to redeem us from our sin. He took our penalty so justice would be satisfied and we could still go to heaven. That isn’t what this man said though. He said that Jesus died so that the intelligences would be convinced that we mean a lot to Him and that mercy could be given because mercy trumps justice. I don’t think that’s the case at all! His example about Abe Lincoln isn’t mercy trumping justice. There was no justice done. Sure the mother gets her son. But what about the family of the other victims? They have no justice. No mercy. There is no justice according to this video. Jesus wasn’t punished because our sin required a sacrifice. Jesus was crucified so the intelligences would be convinced to allow us to heaven. According to this video at least

I’m curious about this video. He said that Heavenly Father created two things. Things to act and things to be acted upon. Those things that act are intelligences. He goes on to say that the intelligences are essentially more powerful than Heavenly Father because if they stop believing in him he loses his power. Why do you believe in something that can lose its power? Why believe in something that isn’t omnipotent?

Hey my fellow brothers and sisters, I guess you refer probably to my comment- so thanks for your care :) To be clear, it is not my intention to content or mock in anyway! I do really feel a concern and would appreciate your thoughts: When you listened to the talk would you say you felt the spirit? Is this talk popular in the church? Has any mission president, or other church leader talked about it before or discussed it in a group? (I am from europe, so I don't know how well this talk is generally known and talked about in the church) Also, this is not meant to be a debate, I am sincerely interested in your experience. Kind regards

@janal.h.9931 It was a talk to missionaries given before they left. Obviously, it wouldn't be a group for just a radom teacher. It reminds me of the King Follett sermon. Some can handle deep doctrine. Some can't taste honey. Ask God for your truth. I can't give it to you.
@chuckintexas3 ай бұрын
@@janal.h.9931 - Such a fair question deserves a fair answer . This will NOT be taught in Sunday School or from the Pulput for a very good reason and CERTAIN Wisdom in God . We are commanded in our Church meetings to discuss and focus on the basic tenets of Christ , his Atonement , the Ressurection and Repentance . We rely on Scripture - the four STANDARD works , and The Teachings of The Prophets . Truths of this sort are for those who *_take_* these basic teachings , develop their testimonies AND THEIR UNDERSTANDINGS of the basic building-block elements of The Restore Gospel of Jesus Christ - The PRINCIPLES of LIFE and LIFE _ETERNAL_ - and as we master them we become more and more prepared to encounter these teachings , know what to DO with them , and through the POWER of The Spirit of God and Gift of Discernment , recognize them for the TRUTHS they contain, and how they come together to ANSWER the crucial and ETERNAL questions that arise . There is a deep and crucial FUNCTION for "questions as they arise" , one that relies on The Gift of Discernement and the POWER of Personal Revelation , and it is THIS : With EVERY Personal Revelation form God , *there was FIRST a QUESTION that arose* . "Ask an ye SHALL RECEIVE ... " _your_ DIRECT REVELATION from God ! The PROCESS for this is clearly laid out here , and is a DEEPLY _PERSONAL_ process and journey , one that does NOT fit into the mission of weekly instruction in groups in Sunday School and Sacrament meetings . In _short_ , then - EACH must _ready_ him or her _SELF_ to ask these questions and EACH must make him or her self READY to receive and DISCERN these TRUTHS OF *GOD* . In THIS way _comes_ personal REVELATION and the unfolding of The Mysteries of GOD !

My wife is a Skousen. I really appreciate you bringing this old talk to life. It took some real effort and it was beautifully done. I think there’s definitely some truth to what’s being said here about the idea of honor among the intelligences. Interestingly, Joseph Smith use the word intelligence and spirit interchangeably, we very well could’ve always been spirit not just intelligence , but without a chance to have a mortal experience and of course, having a resurrection and eternal life through the atonement of Jesus Christ.

There is a way for us to know the truth of all things… that is to ask, seek , study it out and pray. We can get our own answers . Confirmation on truth. Pray with real intent with humbleness. Search these same scriptures, ask God for understanding… Line upon line, whatever we are prepared to receive….. but prepare.. do the work… study and pray.. Thank you for your work and sharing with us… God loves us. Love is the key to this work. Jesus loves us, and we can become like him if we truly want to. But only because he made it possible through his sacrifice.

I think the last part is to be humble and realize that the Holy Ghost will give you positive spiritual feelings even if you are getting closer and not fully to a true understanding. Too many people stop just because they get a confirmation and think they are done. The best part is that we are never done and the understanding always seems to go deeper.
