I feel like everyone and their mother saw this coming for the Chargers. No Mike Williams, no Keenan Allen, no Austin Ekekeler. Hell, even Gerald Everett was good for a catch or two. Now you're relying on brick hands Quentin Johnston, Josh Palmer, and a rookie second rounder. Pair that with a head coach who likes to run the ball. What exactly were you expecting Justin Herbert to do this year? He's been pretty damn good in spite of maybe one of the worst offensive playmaking groups in the league.

As a Chargers fan I was expecting a typical Herbert hate bit but you actually did a very good job summarizing the team this year. They are arguably the most different team compared to last year, and I think the offense may come along once everyone really settles into the new system, and it helps to have a last place schedule. Here kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3uyYoOpqtV5lbc is how Fields succeeded in college: low-flying missiles that arced over the heads of defenders to land directly in the hands of his covered receivers in stride. In this direct comparison with Caleb Williams' college highlights, Fields is far & away more consistent & accurate. On the other hand *here* kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZ3TkqyXZd2tY5Y is how the Bears' receivers handled passes that hit them in the hands - - or would have had they not fallen down, turned the wrong way etc. Darnell Mooney deflects at least 3 like Kadarius Toney to the other team. But that's not even the issue. Look at who he hits, where. They're all on routes that go, then stop, turn & face the QB. Watch any Justin _|Herbert_ highlight reel & you get the Same Thing. They're both insanely accurate deep-ball passers. Only with the Bears 11 minutes into kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zp_HY3SZZs2Ue7M we see how effective the routes he was forced to throw to were at getting open. They weren't. His play-callers found 'clever ways' to stagger the receivers so they blocked each other, then would stand still "waiting" for passes. My point is this: everyone's reacting to media _memes_ instead of realizing that as a Pocket Passer, he's up there with Rodgers, Herbert & anyone else. So why do we *think* he's only a glorified RB who hasn't figured it out yet? Because NFL coaches & GMs are just as prone to believing internet memes as you, casual fans or 14-year-old girls. The Steelers *haven't **_LOOKED AT_* Fields' highlights & have decided to only think of him as some 'Special Needs' child who would fall into an open volcano if they didn't hold his hand on every play. Do you know what happens when you set out to look for negatives? You'll *_find_*_ them_ every single time. The lone INT Fields has had so far was on a screen he threw with anticipation, not something a QB can improvise. So it was a play-call. But the minds of the Steelers' coaches aren't pre-set to look for errors in play-calls. They're looking out for negative signs of Fields returning to be what they made up their minds in advance he is, S L O W. So for the next game they allowed no Long Passes because they were worried about him regressing & what do you know? They couldn't move the ball against the Dallas secondary because of this. Then last week Fields looked Really Uncertain & was off-target. A lot. Yeah. The Bears shattered his confidence doing exactly this kind of garbage, forcing him to play like he's "S L O W" & removing more & more privileges/plays from their repertoire, punishing him for things he didn't do wrong like when Darnell Toney (; )) deflected passes to other teams. They don't talk _TO_ him, they talk *at* him & he has No Agency Here. He resigns himself to Following Orders & when you have someone like Arthur Smith who never admits to making mistakes, that can only lead to you Getting Blamed for when His Plans fail. & Tomlin? Sorry, but he _IS_ slow. _He_ decided to start Trubisky over 2 better QBs? _He thinks_ it's better to move onto Russ & restrict long passes to Pickens after seeing Fields score over 30 in an off-game & watched him make those Insanely Accurate throws down the field on the run? I don't know what other teams Fields chose the Steelers over but I can't think of many that would need his services that would be treating him this poorly. Like he's 'Special.'

@chicagodude8888 yeah, some of that is playing from behind quite a bit but the other half ... yeah he's rough in the clutch. Either way, he deserved and maybe needed the chance outside of Chicago, and I say that being a Bears' fan.

@chicagodude88882 ай бұрын
@@dbeast03 By playing from behind we’re talking about one possession games where driving the field for a field goal sends the game into OT. Fourth quarter Fumbles and interceptions are the result of asking him to throw in obvious passing situations which he’s failed at over and over and over again. His one come from behind victory came vs the Vikings in a game he fumbled twice in the fourth quarter where the bears won 12-10.

I’ve watched pretty much every Bears game since 2022 because I live in Chicago. Fields pretty much was the entire offense in 2022-2023. He’s a very confusing quarterback. I can’t tell if he’s getting better or worse. He can make big plays but nothings really consistent. Yet he’s been a part in how the Bears finished the second half of 2023 with a winning record. Now he’s on a Steelers team with a winning record. It’s all kinda crazy.

Quality WR's make a QB's job easier. Mahomes has as many INT's as TD's this year. He's a very capable QB, no one is doubting that but what has changed? KC has let some really good WR's walk and replaced them with guys that are no where NEAR as talented. If a quality QB is struggling, there are a few reasons why. Dan Marino never won a title and in the playoffs we saw why. No running game. If you don't have a RB threat, it makes you pretty easy to figure out when someone watches film on you. Dallas is learning the HARD way what passing on King Henry really cost them.

I didn't really understand the point of Jim harbough looking at a possible future HOF QB and going "yeah, we're a run first team" and then they proceed to get rid of Justins best 2 targets from last year. And honestly Justin hasn't looked that bad stat wise, I haven't really seen the games but looking the stats, 6 TDs and 1 pick, while not having absolute jack squat for a receiving core and being a run first offense. It's not bad, it's not a shouting MVP type performance, but it's not bad. I just don't understand why they literally crippled his receiving core. I mean yeah, a good run game is good, but you can't have 1 without the other, same goes for the Steelers, and the game against Dallas was the perfect example, the run game was completely shut down, therefore the passing game was also just completely locked down
@robsop95122 ай бұрын
Herb will be fine. He is throwing to a potpourri of rookies and who-dats. If Q Johnston or Palmer develop into a legit weapon and Laddy turns out to be a true WR2, then all will be forgotten. Mo Pix is garbage and I do not see him ever being much better than a solid backup or fringe starter. He had to live within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage in college, and that ain't changing in the NFL. Fields might have a huge year or 2 in the future once he finds himself as a passer. I could see a Rich Gannon kind of arc to his career.

While this video has pretty accurate rap on Fields, he's still probably Pittsburgh best option at the position for this season. I think Russel is likely cooked at this point in his career, sure he might throw a couple nicer deep passes per game, but Fields probably still offers more explosive plays per game with his running abilities. Still, I don't think either offer much hope for a franchise, aside from being a first round exist.
