You don't trade away a QB who's played this well and given your team a chance at the #1 seed and 14+ wins. I'd sign Darnold to a 3 yr deal and get it done for a decent price, and roll with him for the near future. Darnold is tired of bouncing around teams and not playing. He likely wants security as a starter and wants to win games. May not cost a ton. I'd then hang JJ out there as trade bait to see what I could get for him. You never know, look at a team like the Giants. They are in desperate need of a QB. They bungled their draft spot last week by beating the colts and now they find themselves in a position where both Sanders and Ward may be gone before they're on the clock. If they're on the clock and both those QBs are gone, and they couldn't trade up to secure one of them... they may be willing to part with pick 4 or other assets in order to bring in JJ McCarthy, who for all intents and purposes is still a rookie. That's the only way I'd do it if I'm the vikings I think. Vikings could get a blue chip prospect and high impact player at a position of need... and you're rolling with Darnold anyway. It's actually really intriguing for both teams. No guarantee McCarthy is your QB of the future in Minnesota anyway, jury is still out on him. Giants need to take a chance like this and McCarthy could end up being their guy and it works out for them too.

Another banger video. You have turned into my favorite channel to tune into for more in depth NFL coverage. I think that Darnold has already surpassed the ceiling of JJ McCarthy, but it's so hard to know if Darnold can replicate it again next year. If he can, then yeah I think I would lean heavily into trading JJ. Especially considering how weak this upcoming QB draft is...

If you look at minn past when they were in superbowl they had the players, but when you look at how many years they can keep up the winning quality, it's a small window. 3 yrs tops is when a group can win. Look also at Chicago Bears. One and done, great team at the right peakness, Detroit really has a great chance this year, but , the talk of injuries?

This discussion has always been so weird to me, because people act like Sam Darnold is a 34 year old veteran QB and not a long term solution. Now he may not be a long term solution, you obviously never know, but it's not because of age. Darnold is 27, he is 2 years older than rookie Michael Penix. This could be a guy you rely on for the next 8 years if he continues to play like this and improve. I think you sign Darnold for an extra year, and have JJ sit behind him for another year. If Darnold continues to preform, you keep him. Good QB's are a rarity in the modern NFL.

I’ll give Darnold credit for his improvement, but I believe he is the product of KOC’s coaching and system. The Vikings should have negotiating leverage. If he’s not in Minnesota next year, he needs a team with a good coach. For Me, I think it would be LA. Stafford should be getting close to retirement. I think if he goes to Vegas, Tennessee, or either NYC teams that he will revert back to his old self.

JJ McCarthy signed a 4 year rookie contract. He's not going anywhere if the Vikings can't get a top 3 draft pick for him. If they decide to trade him at all. Darnold is under contract for the rest of the season. If Darnold wins it all, he's not going anywhere either. The Vikings can either franchise tag him or work out a deal in the offseason. The point is, all of this "What will happen with Sam after the season" speculation is just a distraction the team doesn't need right now.

Hell even if McCarthy performs 70~80% of what Darnold did by the time he's getting his first season live reps, he still has the rest of his rookie contract to prove he's worth the second contract (or not). While still playing with the receivers/O-line that Darnold did (and maybe even improved).

Really just got into football this year. Didn’t grow up with it, watched two seasons when I moved out and called myself a skins fan, but never really got into it. This year I decided halfway through the season of all times to really start watching and getting into it because of a friend. Told my wife after seeing a few games: “I’m really liking how the Vikings are playing. I could see myself being a fan.” Didn’t know anything about the players yet. Every game though, I’m like: “Minnesota looks great this time of year.” And learning about some of their stories has been awesome. Got a pair of Viking socks the other day as my first football merch. Vikings even MAKE it to the Super Bowl, and that’s a done deal on my fan loyalty forever. Shoot, it might be there already.

The church I started attending holds a Fantasy Football League. I'd never followed Football, but was looking for ways to make more friends, so I decided to join. A friend who is a longtime Vikes fan told me at the start not to draft any Vikings unless I want my heart broken. Wound up drafting Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Sam Darnold, and the D/ST, Then picked up Hockenson when he was healthy. Made it to the finals but lost because the Colts let Malik Nabers score 5 billion points, who my opponent happened to have on their team. Still feel like I won because its been so great watching a QB that I drafted in round 12 put the rest of the league to shame, and ultimately the Vikings weren't the ones to let me down lol. I'm a Viking fan for life now
