Jimmy hasn't been consistent over the last couple of years. In the regular season, he's been pretty much pedestrian. Every now and then, he'll have a great game, but then for the most, I'm like, "Where's Jimmy?" He's played a big role in why the Heat have been in the play-in, like they've got to fight for their lives to get in the playoffs, when they should be somewhere within the 4th and 6th spots. Even this year, what's he averaging? 18? Would Riley want to pay max extension to a superstar-feeling player who only averages 18 ppg? It's time for the Heat and Jimmy to move on. Jimmy's sick of the lack of help and the Heat are not going to win a ship with Jimmy as their main guy either.

@@PeterWilson-c3u I think the issue is that being traded is part of the game. There are rules in place that govern how that action takes place. There are no rules in place to facilitate a player just wanting out. Letting a player go while under contract is more so a “favor” by the organization, if they choose to do so. The players association should fight for a solution to govern how a player is handled when they simply want out.

And this ladies and gentlemen is how you run a professional sports franchise. You let the player and the agent know who's in charge. Riley knows how restrictive the new CBA is. Riley also knows not one of the teams Butler mentioned will trade for him due to age and contractual demands. Butler's agent also knows without a trade Jimmy isn't sniffing a max contract. He's too old (35 and will be 36 prior to the start of next season), temperamental and injury-prone. Since Riley isn't going to trade Jimmy, the longest he could sign for due to the over-38 rule is 2 years. That's why Jimmy wanted the Heat to extend him prior to the start of the season so he could lock in that 4th year. He'll be lucky to get the Klay Thompson deal next summer.

Jimmy was a great player( not a superstar) and he got paid more than enough for it . He is now a good player . who ( like many of todays NBA good players) can`t stay on the court for more than 2 games in a row? You don`t get paid for what you did yesterday or what you believe the team owes you? When I say paid I mean revisiting his Max contract as his Agent requested? Looks like we are in for Drama between Riley and Butler . Pat has to say that he is not going to trade him at the moment , but as the deadline approaches of course they will trade him . What will be interesting to see is how creative Butler will become at inventing excuses not to suit up ?. Sitting out could also backfire on Jimmy if the Heat show that they are basically just as good with or without Butler.... which I believe is the case . 43-46 win team going nowhere after the season either way .

I’m on Pat’s side but Jimmy has built equity on that team by leading two teams to the Finals. Yes, he lost but he lost to two generational and all-time great players.
