My favorite sandalwood shave soap is Crabtree & Evelyn, but I like the Proraso red, and I appreciate how the handheld cup is so easy to use. I also use their pre-shave. In general Proraso appears to be a favorite among wet shavers, and I can see why.

I just received a tub of this today along with a new to me 1966 Gillette Slim Adjustable and had the finest shave of my life, no exaggeration. The fragrance is fantastic. I’ve enjoyed smelling it all day. I’m new to wet shaving so it’s early days but having solid tools has made my journey very enjoyable. I’ve learned so much from your videos. I’m sure you know already but in case not, you’ve made it easy for a beginner to get started. Thanks for putting so much great information out there for others to learn.

Eric, thanks so much for the very kind words. It's very satisfying to know you and others have learned a bit from my videos.:) And, you are so very correct, having solid tools and doing all the proper prep will make for an enjoyable and fantastic shave. That Slim is an absolutely wonderful razor! I just had a 1963 model (I-3) re-plated and it gives a glorious shave. So I understand the shaving result you recently achieved. Which is why new wet shavers, and those with several years under their belts, continue to do the traditional wet shave...it's a great way to shave, you get a great, smooth result, and it allows you to jut simply have some time to yourself. Again, thanks for the really nice words. Wonderful to hear of your progress! Shave on!:)

Great soap scent. I was lucky enough to find it for $2 a tube at HomeGoods two weeks ago. I had only used Proraso Green and Proraso White, so I was very interested in the Red. After using it a few times, it is my top Proraso scent. I also bought the after shave splash (had to pay full price for it on Amazon) and it smells even better. Great shave video.

Great shave again Mark, and you are not talking Proraso red up too much. Proraso Sandalwood is the only Sandalwood I have used and the only one I want to use. I loved it from the very first sniff. It is so rich, warming and cozy, that it just makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. And, the scent stays with you for hours. As I watch you, I am whipping up another Franken-Arko-soap, this one for a friend I just got into DE shaving.

I tried Proraso Red (in a tube) for the first time. Oh my god- this stuff is amazing. Measured out 1/2 tsp and lathered it in a bowl. Could not believe how fast it lathered up. Plenty of lather for a 3 pass shave. So fast and convenient. Great shaving cream to use if you’re in a hurry.

Thanks for yet another wonderful shave video. I would love to get one of those Viking adjustable razors, but I just for the life of me cannot understand why one side has a comb and the other does not on the shaving head. It just kind of defeats the purpose of having two edges on the blade of an adjustable razor. Any thoughts?

Great video George, if you like the Proraso Red soap you will definitely like the Proraso red Sandal wood Aftershave which is much better a scent but similar to the soap and is called a lotion for what ever reason. I like to but some cream or croap in a lathering bowl at night and let it sit out because it seems to sweeten the sent more when you start to lather in the morning and drives off some of the preservatives in the soap that distorts the cream's true scent . Some guys do not use a balm because the lotion has good properties for the skin from my limited research. I still enjoy the TOBS scent a little more but it is great that there are different sandal wood scents to choose from for us all to enjoy.
@joerouse79084 жыл бұрын
Proraso red was the very first shaving soap I ever bought. I love the scent. I will sometimes just pop the lid off to take a whiff. I got TOBS sandalwood and expected a similar scent and instead got a strong perfume scent. Not what I expected and I’m not a fan. I had a hard time getting a lather with Proraso. I know people say it is the easiest soap to lather. But I was new and didn’t know what I was doing. One day I put some water on top to let it bloom and presto, that was what it needed.
@MarkSzorady4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Joseph Rouse. Yes, Proraso Red's scent is really more organic and earthy than the TOBS sandalwood. Prorso Red has really grown on me.:) I put hot wter on all my pucks, shower, then dump excess and load the brush for a face lather.:) A great way to start the day.:)

Ron, thanks for the nice words. A couple of things regarding my wet shave journey which may help yours. It took some time for my skin to adapt to the wet shave. I'd say about three to four weeks.:) I was coming from having shaved with an electric razor for years. So, my skin was really drinking in the moisture and other great skin-food ingredients from soaps, balms, etc. I also kept things on the mild side. The razors I used were mild, yet efficient. I continue to favor mild razors.:) Also, I kept reminding myself to use a light touch. I guess that's why I always say in my videos, "30 degrees, a light touch, let the razor do all the work, gentlemen." Many cartridge razors users, IMHO, have to overcome the muscle memory of pressing down, a remnant from using a cart for so long. This is not to say that my shaves are free from the occasional nick. They do happen once in a blue moon. However, because of technique, slickness of pre-shave and lather, etc., they are minimal. Usually, they close up with during the cold water rinse. If the nick needs further treatment, I also have recovery tools like an alum block, styptic pencil, nick care stick, balm, after shave, balm, etc. to repair a nick easily and quickly so it heals. It usually heals/seals up minutes after the shave and is completely healed in time for the next shave.:) HTH.:)

@@MarkSzorady Mark, I too have shaved for years with an electric razor. When it finally stopped working I started to scramble to figure out what to buy next. I remembered as a kid, seeing my dad shave with an old Gillette butterfly razor and that is when I started searching the internet to figure out how to get started with wet shaving. Boy, my first shave looked nothing like all the KZbin videos. Instead of a weeper or two, my neck looked like I fell off my bicycle and got scrapped across the asphalt. After a couple days of heeling and watching lots of your videos, I was ready to give it another go...this time with pre-shave and a light touch. What a difference! I was down to just 3 cuts but still with quite a bit of irritation so I stopped my shave after 2 passes. The 3rd shave went even smoother. I was able to complete 3 passes with only 1 weeper that heeled by the time I cleaned up my brush. So again, I thank you for all the videos and tips and tricks! Smooth shaving my brotha! Ron

I might be the only one in this planet but I hate Proraso. Not because it's a bad Brand and it's really not. But because it doesn't work on me. Main reason is red's scent is exactly the same with what I use to clean toilet floor. Green has something (probably menthol) too much and it makes my face red even though I don't have a sensitive skin. And I don't like white's performance. Quick note please don't beat me with a baseball bat because of this or try to sell me the brand because neither would work.

Oh forgot to say there's one problem with the Proraso and it's not personal. Proraso soaps leave a white gunk on your shaving equipment if you don't clean them hospital level. I found that dish detergent cleans the soap stains with ease though.
