Tremendously useful, thank you! I'm in the UK and we can only have semi auto rifles in .22RF here. Have my eyes on a complete CMMG build but couldn't exactly pin the dealer down on whether last round hold open worked or not (busy day) so this clears things up. Looks like the 15/22 mags are ultimately the way to go.

Have been firing Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 with 10 round mags for several months, maybe 1,000 rounds. I’m in Texas, but use the 10 round mags by choice. So far rifle and mags are flawless. I’m using CCI AR TACTICAL 22 LR ammo. A fun rifle + economical 22 ammo.

Thank you for your insight!! I have been searching for quite some time the perfect mag to use with my cmmg arc and think maybe you answered it. There was a mag that is my favorite that worked well with my cmmg conversion but that company is no longer in business. It was called Plinker or Plinkster Tactical. Work well with the arcatch22. It was the tightest fitting with no wobble when mag was inserted. In my experience with cmmg mags, the miss feeds and stove piping were caused due to a wobbly mag. I have 5 cmmg mags and regret buying them. So for them to function better , I have added layers of electric tape to shim the mag from wobbles. It works OK but will still get a misfeed from time to time. Not the best work around as the tape may fall off over time. Same with the black dog mags. I'm gonna buy a sw1522 mag and a stickon adapter to see how I like it. Hopefully this is the solution.

The S&W mags do not survive being left in a vehicle during Texas summers. We're 0 for 6 so far and all warped enough in the thin area around the thumb pull-down thing to be rendered useless in short order. S&W replaced all of them but they're not robust enough to be stored in extremely hot environments. They're good for training but that's about it.

It's still early days and I haven't personally had a chance to test them yet, but take a look at this thread: old.reddit.com/r/ar22/comments/w3pckq/new_cmmg_mags_ar_catch22_v2/ The spring tension might not be strong enough for consistent lock-up (kind of like the KRISS mags). I'll update more as I have more info as well

I got my wife the cmmg 22 kit for her ar 15..got 1 25 rd cmmg mag..and ordered a 25rd black dog..both had issues feeding..after a little r + d..i found a small piece of self adhesive felt..about 3/8 square.. applied to the front of the mag ..about 1/2 into the mag well..took up any movement..now i did it to both mags.. built by different manufacturers.. and it took right off..no failures to feed..and the mags set at the right angle of attack..trust me. My wife shoots the hell out of the thing..so i had to make it 100%..be safe

Nice, that sounds like a great and simple fix! It's a hard balance, because these guys want mags that drop free in all lowers, but I think that in doing so, they lose some precision on the angle.

So you don’t need the better mag adapter to use the smith and wesson mags with the cmmg conversion kit? Just the plastic magwell clip?
@arcatch22682 жыл бұрын
Yup! If you add in a Catch22 bolt catch, you'll also get that functionality back as well, but you can just run the clips on their own.

Good explanation. I'm building an upper too. Beyer barrel, RTB bolt, Aero upper. I hesitate to use the mag well boonie packer device since 1) you have to file it to make it fit, 2) this is a big one, I want to be able to to go back and forth between 22 and 223. I don't want to insert/pull out the Boonie Packer too many times due to possible wear since it is metal and I want to preserve my lower. Is that clip you used plastic? The piece you added to the catch, the is Catch 22v2, right? Any concern with it wearing at the lower?
@arcatch22682 жыл бұрын
Correct, the clip that I used is plastic. The piece I added to the catch is the Catch 22v2. No concerns with it wearing on the lower. It's only really touching the stock bolt catch and the whole goal is to have it fit tightly over it, so there won't be any weird rubbing or things like that.

I only know or use the black dog/cmmg mags as I only use systems that use those ie----CMMG conversion, Sig 522, and Rock River 22 upper----which is what you need to distinguish as when your talking about mags---they are relevant to system as well lrbho with a elongated follower is still last round bolt hold open : it lets you know your out of ammo---but doesnt hold bolt back 15/22 are ok as a 22 rifle but they dont suit my purpose as they are not trainers, not cross compatable and are not AR lower standard

Do you need that bolt catch adapter for proper lrbho function on 15-22 mags?
@arcatch22682 жыл бұрын
Yup. Without it, the 15-22 mags don't have anything that they can hit to hold the bolt open. The stock .223 bolt catch don't have the right dimensions to get it done on their own.

Is the Catch 22 bolt catch necessary along with the mag well clip?
@arcatch2268 Жыл бұрын
The mag well clip-on (or stick-on) is only necessary if you're running 15-22 mags. It's needed to take up some of the slack in the mag well so you can get consistent lock up. The bolt catch is necessary regardless of what mag you're using.
