PROS and CONS of a Carnival Cruise! (More cons than pros?!)

I've only been on one Carnival cruise in 2022; sailed off peak time to Pacific Coast Mexico. I will add as a big plus the crew are wonderful people. Our cruise the staff was almost all from Indonesia and were some of the nicest people I've ever met.

In agree with everything you said with the Pros and Cons. Very detailed, I think people should just travel and enjoy themselves on any ship that suits them and their budget. I have sailed on Carnival and Royal Caribbean and I like them both.

Having fun dancing and enjoying people is not rowdy unless there are altercations. It’s a fun ship. I’ve been traveling on Carnival since 2001 and never saw any altercations.

The Big Chicken and Guy's Burgers are my go to places. I Cruised on the Celebration last May and will be going on the Mardi Gras in July

Guy's burgers are dangerous. Very good burgers, and having 2 can turn you off for the rest of the day. That said they are very good. You need serious self control around them.

After 30 + Carnival Cruises, I have sworn off the four and five day cruises. There's a level of aggression that goes with the rowdiness on those sailings I don't like. Anything longer than 6 days is fine. You get the rowdiness without the aggression. That's what I sign up for. The service never ceases to amaze me.

I love Carnival. First cruise ever was 2015 on Splendor when she cruised out of Miami. Next cruise was NCL Bliss and hated it. Only other cruises have been Carnival Magic and Horizon. Looking foward to the Jubilee in November. All these shios felt vastly different. The crew is what I love about Carnival, vast difference from what we experienced on NCL. From the time we boarded felt like the crew couldn't wait for us to get off. There were not anything specific just an over all vibe. I will be trying Royal Caribbean next year.

Carnival owns NCL, Princess Cruises, Holland America, and Cunard line!! Their formula works. I love carnival on the longer cruises, 9-15 days.

Carnival was just awarded 2024 Cruise Line of the year. I've been with them 30 years and never had a bad cruise. They are called The Fun Ships for a reason. I think it was last year T&L had them ranked #4 for Food behind Celebrity, Oceana and Virgin. Royal was #5 and NCL didn't make the top 10.

Unless you are on a premium, luxury, or ultra luxury cruise line, the included dining room will have a limited menu. If you want more options at included served restaurants you just need to pay more than for Carnival without specialty restaurants.

We have taken a handful of Carnival cruises with no complaints. The family always had fun. With the recent changes that reduced services such as included room service we have been choosing cruise lines that still offer the service we expect to have on a cruise. We will be taking our first Princess cruise in June 2024 instead of Carnival due to these changes. The only other cruise line we have been on is Disney which we look forward to going on again soon.

Though I’ve been cruising since 1985, I just took my first Carnival cruise December, 2022 (few cancelled on Carnival during the shutdown. I’ve been hesitant simply because of Carnival’s reputation of their clientele as well as their many documented issues. We sailed on Carnival Glory out of New Orleans. NOLA, Carnival, Cozumel, New Year’s Eve. What could go wrong, lol? Truth is NOTHING went wrong. The only “incident” I noticed was a woman in the piano bar was overserved and passed out. I played EMT (been retired) until more help arrived. My only complaint was almost all the MDR food was horrible. Our tablemates returned things almost nightly, and even my fiancée who rarely complains was dissatisfied. I’m excited for our next Carnival cruise on Carnival Splendor, next January out of Sydney. We are going to side-by-side onto a Holland America ship for 14 days upon returning to Sydney.

I will say, I've noticed this happening post covid. I think really they are working these issues out. But, as you know whenever they are trying new things and working the bugs out, the customers are the beta testers. A week ago I was off my most recent Carnival cruise and yes, the MDR food was less than stellar and simply the same thing I could get at the buffet, plated nicely. I think this is the key issue. The MDR is better when you order items that most likely won't be from the buffet. Steak, shrimp cocktail, etc.

Like she said, eating Teppanyaki next to someone in their pajamas just ain't what you pay for. Many of us prefer some class once in a while. NCLs main dining room on Prima had a dress code - but no formal night- and the decor / views commanded such an atmosphere. Carnival can definitely be too casual

Carnival actually still has Elegant nights, unlike Norwegian, in the dining rooms on some evenings. While not strictly enforced, there is still a dress code of not looking like you just came from the pool or just woke up.

@@Josh55907 MSC is more relaxed and while the ship was modern and elegant the customer service and quality of the main dining room food was not as good as Royals. If you don’t buy the drink package it is hard to find free water. No one encourages hand washing like on Royal when entering the buffet. I did enjoy MSCs Ocean Cay private island. For the price I would definitely go again!

Recently took my first Carnival cruise and was shocked. The nightclub closed at 1:30 with a full club and the casinos shut down at 2 am while still packed. Disappointed is an understatement, likely will never sail Carnival again. I chose fun but got almost none.

I didn't last that long in the club. Way too much R and B, and the DJs didn't play semi-decent music until well after midnight! The daytime music was better than that!

Took my one and only Carnival cruise to Mexico. If you have an issue, their customer service stinks. Rather than assist to resolve, they listen and ignore.

Everyone hypes up Guy's burgers, but really... most of them I wouldn't try, and the one I did wasn't as great as I could have at home. There's always a long line over there, too. Sea Day Brunch and the Tea Party were fun, but I also heard that it's either better on other ships or they don't have as much as before covid.

To us, Carnival's food is not satifactory. The theme colors are orange and red, which are too warm and bright. The ship/cabin designs are less polished and elegant. It is also a little rowdy, hard to find a place with a laid-back atmosphere.

All budget friendly cruiselines will have crowded areas when sailing during peak demand weeks. Sail when kids and college students are in school to limit chance of overcrowded ship; these sailings also have lower fares.

I hate the Excel class ships. They are way too crowded. Lines to get into the shows are insane. If you wait until 30 minutes before a show to get a seat, good luck! You'll get one of the crappy ones. Lines for comedy shows and the non-buffet food are also ridiculous with hour-long wait times. We just left the Jubilee a couple of weeks ago and we've also been on the Mardi Gras. They tried to cram way too much stuff into these for 6000 guests. Sometimes less is more!

I have sailed Carnival twice. Never again. Outside of the specialty restaurants the food is ‘meh’ at best and ‘oh god no’ at worst. Several times I would not eat what I tried in the MDR because it was simply not good. One can only eat so many Guy’s burgers. After being nickel and dimed to death (specialty restaurants, etc.) on our last cruise with them we compared our aft facing balcony on Carnival to the Virgin Voyages cheeky corner suite we booked and there was only about $500-$600 difference. Grew quickly tired of listening to the cruise director constantly squawking on the loud speaker. The staff were great. Anyway, sailed them twice. Wish I had made it a one and done.
