Pros and Cons of Graphic Design... If you are new to the graphic design industry, and you are looking to get started, I think it is best to know some of the pros and cons of being a graphic designer.

I love what I do as a graphic designer, and honestly I don't think about the cons much, because it is such an amazing opportunity to get paid to create every single day. But recently a subscriber asked me to make a video about the Pros and Cons of Being a Graphic Designer. So I thought, well I know a few things that a dislike about being a graphic designer and I know a lot of aspects I do like, so I went to making this video.
In no specific order here are a few of my Pros and Cons of Being a Graphic Designer...
1. Pro of being a graphic designer: You get to create. I mean can it get much better than that? Everyday we get to wake up, head to the office, and create a new piece of design for the world each day. Whether that is digital marketing, advertising, webdesign, magazine layout, print production, or for myself KZbin videos. I get to wake up each and every day, observe the world around me and bring together a new combination of the elements at hand.
1. Con of being a graphic designer: We are often undervalued. People think that graphic designers just throw some color and text on a page, or create a "quick" logo in a few minutes, and that is only worth "X" amount of dollars because, "Come on you like doing this anyway". I often think, well, if I told you I hated doing this would you want to pay me more?! As a graphic designer I get the feeling that people think their niece working in Microsoft word can do what I do, and this is a huge con, and very frustrating. As a graphic designers we are very studied and intentional about what we do, and it is a con to be undervalued.
2. Pro of being a graphic designer: We have the tools and the ability to bring other people's ideas to life. This is fantastic because we have the ability to help others bring the ideas in their minds to life. We can bring their ideas into the tangible world.
2. Con of being a graphic designer: The graphic design industry is expensive. There is a lot of gear, training, and monthly subscriptions to account for when pursuing a career in graphic design.
3. Pro of being a graphic designer: Developing design intelligence. I will explain what I mean by this with a quick example. You approach a door with a handle. Do you push or pull. Well our brain would tell us to pull the handle, because that is what we have been trained to do throughout our life time. But when you pull the handle the door does not budge. You were supposed to push this door. That is design un-intelligence. A great designer will focus on learning design intelligence to ensure his or her designs are intuitive.
3. Con of being a graphic designer: You will begin to develop mental exhaustion. As a graphic designer you are constantly working out ideas, problems, and innovating new compositions. With that comes mental exhaustion. You need to take some time, get away from the computer, and refresh yourself.
4. Con of being a graphic designer: Identity crisis. You will see this a lot in creative types. We kind of just lose it! We are so wrapped up in our designs that our work becomes our identity. You need to make sure you separate your self-worth from the work you create. You are not your work, but your work is an expression of your taste, ideas, and inspiration.

Hi Ben, I do agree that might not be easy being a graphic designer. What I noticed is that, first of all, you should love and adore what you do in a first place. I'm giving you an example here; I had my high-school and Bachelor degree in Accounting. Then, I became an accountant. 13 years later, I'm still an accountant and at some point, I don't want it anymore. I love creating (creative designs, handmade stuff, draw, you name it). What i think is that you should love what you do, no matter what! In the end of the day, everything you don't like doing can lead to mental issues and distractions and exhaustions just because you are kind of forcing yourself being what you don't want to be... (No judging, just sharing opinion) :)

I am thinking of going into accounting because of being a single mom, security, money, etc,.. yet I am an artist and writer. I'm very creative and that doesn't give much money, security like accounting would do. I'm trying to figure out what I want to go to school for🥺 It's confusing
