Thank you! I'm relocating for a new job. As a person who's lived in Chicago and Detroit, the crime map is exactly the resource I was looking for. I love big cities and what the news outlets report is way worse when compared to the great experiences most of us have living in them. You just have to be street-smart.

The summers have become beastly and the winters frigid. I lived in Bal\ltimore for over 20 years and experienced a definite change in the severity of winter. How in the HELL did you leave out Amtrak and MARC? Thousands use both DAILY! Baltimore does get a bad rap and I strongly defend it when it comes up in conversation. I lived in Mt. Vernon and Hampden and loved both.

Larry thanks for your input on the trains. The MARC train is definitely a hidden gem and brings people all the way from Perryville to work all the way in DC each day. What is your favorite place to eat in Mt. Vernon?

One of the things that attracted me to Baltimore harbor was Vaisala Lightning tracker stats that shows Baltimore city center gets significantly more lighting storms than anywhere on the coast north of Wilmington,Sc. Storm watchers rejoice.

I was born there in 1951, and escaped to Los Angeles in 1972. I seldom return there. I'm a musician, and traveled the world on that pursuit. But I shoveled snow there, fell on the ice enough to remember til now. The women in Baltimore are Magnificent! And I used to go crabbing with my family!!!!

I’ve lived in Baltimore for 3 years. Trust me the summers are NOT hot. Maybe one to two weeks it was very hot. Especially compared to the rest of the US we’re doing great. The winters do not have snow and cold like that. The bay keeps warm air coming in during the cold months. If it snows, it’s maybe 3 times and it’s nothing to write home about. The weather here all year round is top tier. The humidity can be wild if you’re not used to it, but I grew up in Louisiana so it doesn’t bother me.

For pro number for, you missed rail travel! We’re on the Northeast Corridor, the only real intercity rail corridor in North America. You don’t have to drive to DC, Philly, NY or Boston. There is also commuter rail to DC, so between MARC, Amtrak Northeast Regional and the Acela Express, you can get a train every 30 minutes to an hour. Amtrak usually sells out, and is pricey if you don’t book in advance, but they have intercity buses for us plebes

Right now this time of year? Here are 3 things that I would consider doing. 1. Head down to the inner harbor for a walk around the harbor. I'd grab a bite to eat in Harbor Place somewhere. 2. If you are a baseball fan, I would take a tour of Camden Yards if possible. 3. Head down to Annapolis and grab lunch at Pussers. It's a great easy going restaurant right on the water. Hope this helps! Cheers.

I lived in Baltimore my whole life as well and never had an major issue either. Most of the violent crimes here are targeted. As long you’re not in any mess that you’re not supposed to be in, you’re pretty much safe. But be smart and aware like you would anywhere else.

Great video! A few questions where I could appreciate your insight: How are the students of Johns Hopkins, specially Ph.D. students, regarded within the Baltimore community? How easy & how much time does it take to get from Baltimore to D.C. for a concert or cultural event? Many thanks!
@LIVINGINBALTIMOREMARYLAND
@LIVINGINBALTIMOREMARYLAND Жыл бұрын
Hey there Coca Cola great question and thanks so much for asking. So Hopkins students are treated very well as most that reside near the hospital are graduate students that are helping to make the community better. Unlike typical undergraduate schools there really isn't a party, fraternity or sorority scene that is in the community causing trouble. I work with investors who love renting to Hopkins students because they know there homes will be really taken care of. Traveling to DC for a concert typically will take about an hour. No matter if you travel on 295 or 495 you are bound to run into traffic going to the event. Coming back to Baltimore afterwards should be a bit easier if the event ends in the late evening. What other questions can I answer for you? Thanks again for watching and subscribing.

@@LIVINGINBALTIMOREMARYLAND Thank you for your super generous answer. What neighborhoods would you recommend for an incoming Ph.D. student in the Humanities? Any specific places where I can rent being a foreigner, not currently in Baltimore (but with a Hopkins offer of admission), and that are trustworthy? Any basic newcomer advice, both to Hopkins and Baltimore in general?

Also, DC is really easy for events. You can just drive to the closest DC metro stop to Baltimore (I usually do New Carrollton but Silver Spring is fine too) and metro into DC. It's easier than finding and paying for parking and the DC metro is one of the best transit systems imo.

I live in Baltimore County in rural area outside of Baltimore City. People I know and myself included don't go downtown unless it's an absolute. Desperate need like a hospital vis it when you can't find a specialist that is in the county. There's probably everything you need in the county said that you don't have to go into the city. It's because of the crime downtown. It's like everything that was any good in. The city has now relocated outside of the city to escape the violence

Property taxes are so overblown. The market responds to property taxes. If the taxes were to go down, then the market would instantly raise the prices of all the houses. If they go up, then vise versa. Not to mention you get tax write offs for property taxes as a homeowner.

There's a cheap (maybe $5) bus that goes back and forth from the county to the city all day, almost everyday. There's also buses and train station that go to different parts of Maryland. Ex. Aberdeen to Edgewood to Baltimore for about $4

You can take the Light Rail which goes north and south out of the city. Like Alexis mentions in her comment you can take one of the commuter buses in and out of the city to all parts of the surrounding counties. Check out the MTA's website for pricing and routes: www.mta.maryland.gov/
