Thank you for this video. I lived in Houston, Texas for 20 years. Growing up as a child, Galveston was our family getaway. The first time we went, I was 6 years old and I fell in love with it ever since. I now live in Charlotte, North Carolina. I do miss living 45 minutes away from the beach. Now it's 3 hours from Myrtle Beach... bummer😊.

Luis, your video coverages of Galveston are excellent! I will be referring friends and family to you. Meanwhile, in this video, I would have included healthcare as one of the top Pros, with UTMB, which includes the newly rebuilt $438 million Jennie Sealy Hospital, a fabulous level 1 trauma center, Shriners Hospital, etc. Most of the buildings received significant damage and closed after hurricane Ike on September 13, 2008 and have since been rebuilt beyond their former glory. For many people wanting to relocate, local healthcare in a major consideration and Galveston offers that. 🎉😊

I live in Dallas and visit Galveston several times a year lol I want to move there (when my son turns 18 lol) in 8 years. I love visiting and all the history, food, shops, fishing, walking on the beach, etc. My friends live there in some nice apartments and their rent is less than mine! I’d probably still rent though. Jobs would be a concern for me. I’m a paralegal, cosmetologist, and I do deliveries full time at the moment. If I lived there, I wouldn’t want to leave the island lol great video! You are adorable lol 🏝️🏝️🏝️

Hi Michael. Thank you for the comment. I definitely agree that there are different career opportunities in Houston. Galveston does have more opportunities in the hospitality industry vs the more diverse opportunities found in Houston but I know several people that happily make the commute into a he Clear Lake area and even Houston 😊.

I'm going to subscribe because I live in central Texas and would like to know about other places in Texas to move to or visit. How are the public Libraries? Is it a nice place for artists and writers? How about the disabled? Is it easily accessible? How is the public transportation? Are there any driving schools? Like your video.😊❤

Thank you for subscribing! Galveston is a wonderful place with a rich history and vibrant community. Our public library is fantastic, offering a range of resources and events for readers, writers, and artists alike. The city has a thriving arts scene, with galleries, studios, and cultural festivals that support local creativity. As for accessibility, Galveston is actively working to improve accommodations for people with disabilities, and many public areas are accessible. While public transportation is available through Island Transit, it’s more limited compared to larger cities, so most residents rely on cars. If you're looking for driving schools, there are options both on and off the island. Galveston has a relaxed, welcoming vibe and could be a great fit if you're looking for a new place to explore!

We are looking at moving down to Galveston next year or maybe this fall, but want to come and stay in a few condo's to see what area we like. We like the Diamond Beach Resort, but also wanted to know if there are any good condos in the Strand area?
@livingingalvestontexas
@livingingalvestontexas Жыл бұрын
Yes! There are many different condominiums around the Strand and downtowns area. They’re definitely a different aesthetic than the Diamond, but if you’re wanting to be close to everything and enjoy the more urban lifestyle it’s perfect. I do recommend visiting and staying for a few days on both areas of town to see what you like best. You can go wrong either way, but there’s pros and cons to living on either side of town. I would be happy to help you find the perfect place or answer any questions you may have. I live and work on the island and can honestly answer any questions and address any concerns you may have.

@livingingalvestontexas
@livingingalvestontexas Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thank you for your comment and your question. Galveston has very limited land to build and water front land is sold at a premium. There's a new luxury condominium being developed towards the West End of the island and there's also a new mix-income housing complex being build right off of Broadway in Mid-Town so new developments are in the works. There's also a large market for the existing condominiums on the island with many units being bought and sold that can be used as secondary properties and/or vacation rentals.

Luis😊 can I tell you one more thing, please? Were you here after hurricane Ike in 2008? If not, the press deemed Galveston unrestorable, saying it was a dead town and would remain a dead town, because the healthcare system was destroyed and too expensive to ever rebuild. Patients (one was my best friend) had to travel all the way to Houston’s MD Anderson to continue their cancer treatments since the Galveston center was closed. There were many crises and devastations post-Ike, and Galveston’s healthcare system was #1.

Hi Michaelene thank you for your comment and happy you found my video informative. I plan to start uploading again very soon. -Here in Texas there is a provision for a partial exemption for any property owned by a disabled veteran. The amount of the exemption varies depending on the disabled veteran's disability rating. Let me know if you have any additional questions or need any more help.

It really depends on what you and your family enjoy-whether it’s more of a country feel or a bit of suburbia. If you’re looking for a quieter, more rural vibe, places like Santa Fe or Hitchcock might appeal to you with their open spaces and slower pace of life. For a suburban atmosphere, League City and Dickinson offer a nice balance with good schools and amenities, while still being a short drive from Galveston’s beaches and attractions. It’s all about finding the right fit for your lifestyle!

I have love for Galveston and live up 45 near the southern part of Houston. If I ever lived in Galveston my house would have to be elevated and built strong to be storm resistant. For folks not from Houston or Galveston, Galveston is a part of the greater Houston area even though Galveston folks like to stay to themselves at times lol. Pretty much anyone living in Galveston works in Houston proper just like the majority of the suburban areas in the city.
@livingingalvestontexas
@livingingalvestontexas Жыл бұрын
Galveston indeed is part of the Greater Houston area, but it's a very different feeling overall, which is why a lot of us feel like leaving Galveston is like leaving the country lol. While there are many commuters that leave the island to work closer to Houston, there's actually a significant amount of people that commute to the island every day for work. Galveston's thriving hospitality industry as well as UTMB brings lots of work to the island.

Unfortunately, given the size of the island everything seems to be magnified. A lot of incidents are mostly petty crimes like car break-ins and theft. As with any other city or urban area, one has to be aware of their surroundings and take precautions.
