Moved from Washington state to Kentucky a year ago and it was the best decision I have ever made. Born and raised in Seattle, and at 50 years old, it's not easy to pick up and find a new life somewhere else. I considered Lexington, but decided that that was too big and had a lot of what I was trying to leave (traffic, crime, more liberal, big city stuff) Loved the small towns in central Kentucky (45 ish minutes from Lexington) like Danville and Harrodsburg. Ended up in little Perryville and it's (around 700 people) quiet, incredibly safe and has a top rated school. Lexington is nice to visit (and Kentucky is awesome) but there are smaller areas that are quieter and safer. Whether it's bigger city like Lexington, or a smaller town outside of the city, Kentucky is affordable, friendly and beautiful.

I have lived in Lexington KY all my life. Actually, Lexington is actually the largest city in the United States without any freeways going through downtown. You have i-64 and I-75, but that bypass the city, unlike Peoria IL and Wheeling WV where they managed to give drivers limited access options. Lexington does not have this, you have to use at grade surface streets to get to and from downtown. And Lexington is a day's drive within two thirds of the US population, something most major cities don't get.

I've lived in the area my whole life, and I always say the same thing about Lexington. Way too many people in a small space, and the roads are not up to par. It's like people didn't think Lexington was gonna grow too much, so they left the roads the way they were. New Cirlce is a road I try to avoid, just like Nicholasville Rd. and Man O' War Blvd. Downtown is booming, and I bet it's just gonna keep getting better, especially around Manchester St. area. The crime is getting a little much, this year Lexington has had 40 homicides, which is a new, morbid record. All in all, I really do like Lexington, it has pretty much everything that a person could want or need.

I was born in Lex but I grew up in Chicago, I moved to Lex in 2015 { I had previously lived in Shelby County KY for 3 yrs after leaving Chicago} and I like it, it has everything you need however, no major museums or zoos nothing like that, if you like Bourbon, horses or KY sports this is the place for you, unfortunately, I don't care for any of that LOL, work brought me here and as I have gotten older {51} slowing down a bit is good & KY, in general, does that well, things definitely move at a slower pace here but people are friendly.

Nah! Lived in Fayette Co. Hated it. Way too expensive, reminds me of the west. (CA) Moved a month ago from there to a smaller town just south of Richmond. So much better, quieter, and so far no shootings. Our house was shot at one night, (6 times) barely missing us sleeping in the bed. Good luck trying to contact the LPD. They are too busy trying to figure out who's who and who shot who. Sad really. And just filthy. My experience, my life..

I am a native of Louisville, KY, lived and worked also in Lexington, went to school at EKU in Richmond. My father's ancestry is all over eastern KY going back to the 1700s and my mother ancestry is in the extreme western part of the state like Paducah to Fulton going back to the early 1800s. I know KY very very well. There is even a county named after my family in the eastern part of the state and one of my ancestors was a governor. In all of my life there was only one winter that was so cold, that almost no one's car could start and the heaters in a car could not heat the inside of the car. The only problem with KY is the majority of government rule has been the Democrat party which kept KY massively poor, under developed, and poorly educated. This means that KY was a "good ole boys" state and extremely racist for a long time. However, much of all that has and is changing. The arts in KY has suffered the most because everything revolves around alcohol, tobacco, horses and sports! Everything else suffers and is enslaved to those I just mentioned! Get rid of the democrats and KY might stand a chance. The poverty, alcoholism and illegal drug use in KY is still breath takingly shameful. EKU, U of L and U of K are glorified party schools.
