I lived in Lowell throughout my childhood until I was 16. Left there in 1973. Best thing I ever did.

Have you been recently? It's actually really nice here now. I moved away after 7 years of living here in the 2010s and just moved back into a mill condo with my wife. -Tyler Where abouts are you now?

So true about the Business turnover! There’s been so many great places that just struggled to stay open, or had to fight with the city itself over this or that.

Landing in Logan in early morning and need to get to Lowell. What’s the best way? Uber? Rent a car? Would morning traffic make driving difficult?

Well, I will say...as someone who has lived in Lowell for 8 out of the last 10 years, a lot of the people saying this lived here in the 70's 80's and 90's. The city has changed a lot since the early 2010's. I will add, your experience in Lowell depends majorly on what area you live in. My wife lived in a certain high-crime area (nicknamed The Jam by local law enforcement). This was one of the worst places I had ever seen. We had to call in over 7 overdoses and one dead body in a 12 month period. Then, we moved to Pawtucketville and had the most serene and peaceful existence. We now live near the gorgeous riverwalk and love every minute of it.

I’ve lived here for 10 years. The biggest issue is 90% of people have this “fuck you, your problem” attitude. It’s displayed in literally every facet of life here. From people doing anything to get infront of you at the grocery store line to the way people drive blocking entire intersections just to not wait another light cycle. Every facet of life displays this general attitude towards others.

Lowell used to have a horrible reputation is why. People don't realize the city has changed drastically. People's opinions are just that, opinions. Have to experience it for yourself.

I recently moved to MA (March 2022). I've not had a great experience. I committed the cardinal mistake of believing that moving in with my best friend in a new apt to both of us was a great idea, with little faults. Long story short, I'm actively searching for a new apartment, with a March 2023 move-in. I will continue to work in Boston, in-person, so I'm trying to find somewhere within a 90-minute drive or commute to downtown Boston, with a preference to the drive (even with current gas prices). Lowell seems like the nearest place to Boston in that 90-minute radius that will yield a rental apt that has at least, A/C, off-street parking, in unit washer & dryer and a dishwasher with a studio or 1-bedroom that's sub $2,000/month. Does that assumption/idea track? The roommate situation is bad enough that I've reverted to going back to Hartford, CT straight from work on Fridays, and commuting in straight to the office on Mondays/Tuesdays. Typically the Boston to Hartford drive on Friday evening takes about 90 minutes, and the drive in takes around 2 to 2.5 hours, so if a typical drive in to Boston from Lowell is around 90 minutes with traffic that's a done deal in my book

In 1850 Lowell was the most industrialized city in the world...the mile of mills. I lived there till at 12. Worked for Wang Labs as software engineer for 13 years before it went bust, but was living in Salem NH during that time. I live in Phoenix last 22 years, Phoenix is much better.

My wife and I get frustrated at times with the city. We own multifamilies in different cities and out of all of them, Lowell feels the most stagnant at times. That being said, we moved back to Lowell for her to be closer to her job, and we love it (although, we are barely in the city at all where we are located).

Nah. Disagree 100%. I live there currently, it's wonderful. Everyday I wake up and look out on the river. I go to Top Donut, steaming hot fresh donuts. I yawn and look around, the flowers are in bloom. I go down the road to Joanie's Pizza in Chelmsford, elite level pie. I go to the local gym, my muscles, pumped like a freaking gorilla. My life in Lowell is perfect, sorry you didn't enjoy your time here, but it's time to let go of the bad memories and take in this beautiful city.

There are pros and cons to everywhere it's all about what you want out of life and where you want to live it! The traffic is different in Mass then where I am people do not drive on top of each other here. I can ALWAYS tell when a driver is from back home Or back East by the way they drive. They always drive like they have a plow in front of them and drive on top of others and are plowing everyone out of the way.
@livinginmassachusetts25
@livinginmassachusetts25 3 жыл бұрын
Haha you're spot on with the plow analogy. We are very aggressive drivers...I try to stop myself from being that way...😁
