In this video, Haydn Halsted (Realtor in Spokane) shares his thoughts on living in Spokane, Washington in 2023. Haydn talks about the great environment and outdoor activities, the mild weather with access to all four seasons and how Spokane is a great place for businesses. However, Haydn also mentions the recent changes in house prices, which have seen a decline over the past seven to eight months. Haydn predicts that prices will bounce up in late winter and early spring as more people get used to the six percent interest rate.

Spokane is not a place for a small business it sucks. If you survive in spokane you can open anywhere in states and make it. Housing market is stupid now compare to 2016. Construction work plan to work most 7 to 9 months the most even for union work. I dont know maybe i am done with spokane.

Spokane is a retirement city. The city is not a land of opportunity (Oddly enough it does has an area called Opportunity) for jobs. Most are low to no tech, manuel grunt jobs, unless you have great friends to get you in or own your business. If you are highly qualified and certified you have better odds. Age discrimination runs wild in the area when looking for jobs. Downtown Spokane is NOT where you want to be due to drugs and crime. If you are looking to date, Spokane is NOT where you want to be as a man, unless your looks are 9/10 and or make a lot of money. On KREM news (local news station) in 2020, Spokane was ranked 118 out of 130 for dating (1 being the best, duh). North of Coeur d'Alene, Id is where you should look. Idaho is like all places has it pros and cons and well worth considering over Spokane. Spokane does offer many things for anyone who loves the outdoors in any season. If you want to move here, do a lot of research before moving here. Take all things into consideration with a list.

I cannot wait to run far from this city. People here are so rude for absolutely no reason at all, there’s a saying “Spocan’t drive”and the crime is ridiculously high. I’ve had to call the police three times since last year already because some tweaker was drugged out on my lawn and threatening me and my family and last time he threw up on my damn lawn I spent hours and hours on. My 4 and 6 year old children just sigh and get down like it’s routine whenever there’s gunshots. No children should have to live with that. I don’t even live in the more dangerous part of town, either. There’s homeless encampments all over the city and the city refuses to do anything about it. Prepare to get a PO Box if you need to order anything online because mail trucks get followed and when the delivery driver is gone, they take your packages and anything they can grab that isn’t nailed to the ground, and this is in safe neighborhoods. Unless you love crime and horrible people who can’t seem to find a shred of decency or basic manners, bad infrastructure, teenagers that threaten your life when you’re just hanging out on your porch, and a local government that thinks a sculpture is more important than handling the homelessness problem, then come on in. I’m so done with this horrible place

@@RacksonRacksonRibssit’s a horrible place to live. People are awful, violent, and rude. Homes will be completely trashed and gutted and being sold for $250,000. The crime is ridiculously high even in “safe” neighborhoods. Compton in California is rated safer than Spokane. Also if you have children, stay far FAR away. Spokane houses child S-Offenders from all over the PNW. It’s just an overall bad place. If Spokane suddenly disappeared, no one would miss it.

How is access to health care, including mental health care and dental? Are there enough practices there?
@Haydnhalsted
@Haydnhalsted Жыл бұрын
Definitely plenty of dental and medical practices here! We have multiple universities and trade schools in Spokane that specialize in those fields which then create a big pool of doctors, nurses, and dentists. There’s a dentist office every few blocks it feels like haha. In terms of mental health care I’ve never heard any complaints about getting access to a good therapist. When looking at healthcare statistics it doesn’t get broken out like that, what I’ve seen is that there are 241 health professionals per 100,000 people and the average in the US is 210/100,000.

Pot is now legal in Washington. I' ll tell you what is done for Las Vegas where I have lived for over 30 years. It has increased the number of illegal sellers enormously, the reason the legal pot is expensive, but the corner dealer sells much cheaper. Those who believed legalizing Marijuana was the answer to stop the illegal trade were dead wrong, I was one of them. Crime has gone through the roof, homelessness is a mess. I wonder if Spokane has had any of these issues. Lots of Washingtonians moving to Vegas.

I’m not in that scene so I don’t really know much about the economy around pot sales besides the fact that it’s brought a few billion dollars to the education system here
@xaphan8581

In Spokane legalizing it killed illegal selling of it. Dispensers in Spokane idk about everywhere else but in Spokane weed at a dispenser is almost the exact same price as it is illegally. Only difference is people would rather go to a dispenser 1. because it’s legal and you don’t have to worry about getting caught 2 because the suspenders go threw a higher standard of testing everything that comes in so you know it’s not laced or anything like that. 3 dispensers have way better quality 4. They have better variety. With a dealer not only are you normally meeting them on their time and having to worry about cops or people watching but you basically get what you get with them. Plus with people putting random shit into drugs and stuff why by from someone illegally. Literally months after it became legal it was harder and harder to find someone to buy it. Because dispensers were selling it at basically the same price I had to sell mike for alot cheaper. Shits not worth it and that’s why it’s dying off. The only way for someone to make money off of it now is to get your card and sell it legally. But even then you need quite the operation for it to be worth while.

@@xaphan8581 That is the way I thought it was going to work in Las Vegas, but it hasn't. We are a city like no other averaging 40 million visitors per year. Cases of driving drunk & high at the same time have greatly increased. Recently a mother & sister slammed into a mature palm tree, killing their two totlers in the back of the van, an 18 month old was decapitated the "adults" were high. Illegal sales have greatly increased, turf wars between gans are also on the rise, it just didn't work out the way I thought. A local news station compared prices between legal & Illegal stuff there was a considerable difference between the prices. I need to make something clear, I am a non user but the problems created by the legalization do affect may daily life. I agree with you the legal stuff is much safer, the report determined that. People are gonna do what people are gonna do, no way around that, the millions created by the industry have not done a thing to improve the city since pot still Illegal at the federal level, I don't understand how Spokane can use it for the school system, that will be a federal crime, I don't believe they can.
@xaphan8581
@xaphan8581 Жыл бұрын
@@gradywilson9213 the news may say that but I’ve been to these stores. Their literally the same price as if you bought it on the street and you get the exact same thing. The only difference is you can buy higher grade stuff for more. On the street it’s 10 bucks a gram same as the stores. You can even buy stuff for 5 bucks a gram there and the price goes down the more you buy in bulk. Also I never said anything about it causing more wrecks or what lad Vegas does I’m saying in Spokane it is harder for people to sell illegally when they can pay the same price and get better stuff and not get arrested over it.

He makes a lot of good points! I'm 31 years old and have lived here for 12 years now. Heres a few things to point out... -It rarely snows here. It snows a lot outside of spokane, but if you live close to downtown, you wont see much. It mainly snows a few inches a couple times in the winter, and then melts the next day. An average day here from early November - late March is 45 degrees, cloudy, and possibly raining. -Rent is getting higher. As it is in every other city. Rent right now for an average 2 bed 1 bath apartment is around $1400 not including utilities. Back in 2018, that was around $900. -Spokane is getting better being walkable and having city transit. Just this past year, they put in a great bike path right downtown on some major streets, we got electric busses, and lime scooters will be back this summer. -We do have great restaurants here and plenty of breweries. On average price for going out for 2, a 3 course meal, and to a medium priced restaurant will cost you around $80-$100 minus tip. Id day thats pretty average. -Spokane has traffic but its not horrendous. A majority of the time, you wont have any or minor delays. I have been stuck in traffic a couple of times where it added 20-40 minutes to my drive, but its rare. -There are a lot of unhoused people, drugs (Fentanyl and Meth), and shootings. -All the pros he mentions are on point (Great skiing, plenty of lakes, and city growth). I would rate Spokane a 7 out of 10. If you are looking for a more chill lifestyle, I would recommend Spokane. If you like to party and are young, probably should look somewhere else.

I happen to go downtown multiple times a week. Yes Downtown Spokane has its issues but if you've been to any major city you'll know that it is nothing in comparison to that. It's unfortunate that you don't feel safe down there but if it helps, Spokane Police has added 30 new patrol officers at the downtown office to help with response times and just have a greater presence in the area.
