As a Spokane resident, I have to admit to the accuracy and honesty of your video. There are a lot of places I would rather not live than Spokane, but there are a lot more that I would much rather live in too. My economic situation keeps me stuck here.

I expected wildfire smoke pollution to be somewhere at the top of this list. When I was a kid they would burn the wheat fields and that created about 3 weeks of smoke per year but most of the time it wasn't that bad. Wildfire smoke was rare. In the last 10 years wildfire smoke has come to be expected every summer now. Many summers are completely wasted by the smoke. After losing the winter time to the cold it really sucks to lose your summer to smoke. I'm moving as soon as I can afford to.

Is the air super Smokey? I just moved here from Texas for work and I am struggling from lack of sun, even here on the east side of WA.. I’m taking vitamin D but nothing seems to work. It’s also super cold here and constantly cold unlike Texas

@@kat-ee5wt It depends on the year. We didn't have much smoke last year. But most of the last 5 years were big bummers. Maybe last year was the beginning of a change in weather patterns and the Northwest will get more moisture later into the summer? But I doubt it. If I get frustrated before I have enough money saved then I'm thinking about getting a job in Austin. 😀 Make sure that you're taking vitamin K with your vitamin D 😘

I actually talk about the smoke in my Pros and Cons video. Two summers ago was really tough, it was so hard to go outside almost all summer. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Cold weather, I was designed for the cold!!! I always get so happy and exited when its cold outside, and dark clouds are super cozy to me, I never understood why people get depressed in the winter fall or spring because thats when I am the happiest...and this is why I am moving out of totally overrated super hot Comifornia where you only get maybe 3 little weeks of coolness and it feels like you are living in an oven for 6-7 months being slowly cooked to death!!..... plus I hate that people keep voting more and more my rights away and its slowly becoming a communist state.....one reason I will not consider Spokane is if its too much of a blue state,...thats the only worry I would have...

I would vote for the divide. I have lived here all my life 70 years and am very sick of the liberal party running the state. Take a look at what is going on in Seattle if you want to see the outcome of liberal rule. Washington now has the highest gas prices in the country, and the highest drug overdose rate in the country, what a wonderful thing to be first in.

I moved to Spokane from Macon,Georgia some 20 years ago. Why did I stay? Only one reason mainly, the people. Spokane has the nicest and most helpful people in all of America. I could talk about negative things about living here but there is no need. Spokane is the best place to live this side of heaven. The only reason I will ever leave this area is to be buried next to my mom and dad in my hometown, Albany,GA. I thank God every day to live in such a beautiful place filled with beautiful people. Thank you Spokane for making this 70 year old man's life so nice. Forever grateful and blessed.

My favorite thing about the new Spokane is "Kendall Yards." You add a bunch of yupster condos, brunch spots, and sushi restaurants and act like I didn't literally watch a guy get shot because someone asked him if he had a cigarette to bum, and dude said, "I don't smoke." It's been Felony Flats, and will always be Felony Flats. But, do you. Buy your $800k river view condo.

I am from Spokane and live in Spokane for 45 years. My top reasons are very cold and snowy winters, wildfire smoke, and crime. My last reason is the increase in rent prices and homelessness. Your video is good so far because it is honest and based on facts. Gas tax in Spokane is a nightmare. I now live in Dallas. I would say Spokane is on the colder side 9 months out of the year. Seasonal depression is why I moved to Dallas. Unfortunately , Dallas is too hot in the summer. After moving to Dallas we realized Spokane public transportation is actually better than we thought. My suggestion is too use Uber if needed. Public transportation takes too long in Dallas and expensive in Dallas. Good area to live without a car in Spokane is close too north division street. Spokane is very conservative from my experience. So if you are moderate or liberal expect to fight with someone or keep your political views private. If the political attitude changed in Spokane than it happened after we moved.

Spokane has drastically changed. I have lived here since 1993 and it is now almost unlivable. Very liberal, high crime and real estate has skyrocketed. Winters are miserable and it doesn't warm up until July.

I’m a sixty seven year old black man who lived in Kennewick for about nine months in 1997/98; and I was employed by the Pony Express courier company in Pasco for about four months and on Monday evenings; I would drive the company van to the Key West Bank in downtown Spokane to drop off two empty bank bags and dead head back to Pasco . As I was driving to and from Spokane I saw the beautiful scenery of Spokane and I like it! I google information on Spokane a few times a week just to find what’s going on there and I see that there is some population growth and I wonder why because there isn’t much employment opportunities there. I see nothing wrong with a lack of racial diversity in Spokane! That man in the video seems to think that there should be more racial diversity in Spokane but I don’t think so

At 9% or so, sales tax isn't necessarily higher in Spokane that it is in other areas of WA, although it is high compared to surrounding states. However, property taxes can be expected to increase in the coming years. Spokane recently hired/elected a new mayor who desires to increase property tax substantially. Those who are looking to move to Spokane should consider cost of housing carefully.

Try the weather in the Midwest. The seasonal depression is worse in Seattle. I would definitely get studded tires for the Spokane winters, the hills don't get salted. The construction in Spokane is not at huge pain, Chicago's construction is insane. Traffic in Spokane is not a big deal.

Spokane doesn't have hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, humidity, snakes, bugs or alligators. Smoke from fires west of town drifts east, so there is that pall that occurs for a month or two each year. This is a consideration that may be important to some.

I live there in 1998 and 1999 they were not friendly towards people who are not native to the area. And I mean they were not friendly it maybe different now but back then it was not friendly towards Outsiders. But as of 2023 I'm guessing it's a lot cheaper than Knoxville Tennessee which everybody in the United States wants to move to..

Oh man, they say California drivers are the worst and that’s a lie, Spokane has it worse. I lived in Cali, never had an issue with someone trying to cut me off or tail my ass or speeding. Grew up in the Spokane/North Idaho area. I'm planning to move back after nearly 20 years away. One of my biggest concerns about the decrease in summer rain. The increased forest fires and smoke are one side effect of the decreased rain. But it's also a concern for the water table.

I moved from southern California to Spokane as a young teen in 1970. In general, your synopsis was quite accurate and well thought out. However, I did not appreciate the antiwhiteism in item number 2 on your list. You are better than that. Wouldn't you agree that people should be judged on the content of their character rather than the color of their skin? Thankfully, you did not descend into antisemitism or make additional disparaging remarks about any other ethnic groups. So kudos for that. Racism is never good. You are correct that crime and other quality of life factors have been deteriorating here, especially in recent years. We have experienced massive inflows of people from California, Portland, and Seattle as they flee the catastrophic results of the policies put in place by the leftist totalitarian local governments there. Unfortunately, once here they vote in politicians that are pursuing similar goals . . . with similar results. For years we endured outsiders slings and arrows as they derided Spokane as a hick town full of mouth breathers. Regarding the "political divide" between the west and east side of the Cascades: IMO it's a lot more than that. It's a cultural divide that results in political differences. I was born and grew up in Spokane and Idaho. When I moved from Spokane to the Seattle-Tacoma area at age 22 I was hit with culture shock. I imagine it's something like moving from the deep south where you speak at half speed to NY where you speak at double speed. I learned double speed and would never go back to half speed.

European descent people are incredibly diverse, so I'd say diversity is great on that front. If you think having dark skin makes diversity, than perhaps it would be a negative. Community cohesiveness thrives on things seen and unseen that unite a group of people. Which is why heavy diverse crapholes like California (where I lived 20 years), where people break down into little pods of their own ethnic group, create uneasy tension and separation, instead of unity.
