If I had the money to renounce I would in a heartbeat. Haven't lived in the US for over 10 years and never will again. In that time, my voter registration in the US was revoked - they have so far in 10 years have refused to answer an email or speak to me on the phone about it. I owe them nothing, am over 60 and disabled. Well cared for in my present country where I am a citizen. Very likely, I will never see my social security so I do not see what benefit the US is to me. Over it ~
@tutsecret499 Жыл бұрын
This is so strange. Why the voter registration was revoked. I mean, I never voted in US, it's not mandatory. The reason I never vote is because there is no good fit person to vote. What's so strange. I have citizenship, they always took tax from me even when I still had green card, always took money from me even with low income that I can barely pay the rent. Another strange thing. I don't know why sometimes they send me those card by mail asking to do vote registration. I never cared. They just want my vote. Another strange thing: they always renew my driving licence correctly, and then all sudden, they say that on my new licence that I can't enter federal bldgs. I had US passport, I had renewed recently after all this war in Russia. Who cares? I think they made a mistake on the paperwork. I don't know what they did wrong in my driving license, that happened after I answered those voter registration, maybe something was answered wrong. I don't know. I just can't stand calling them to find out. I have better thing to in life. Another thing they do to me. I I owe tax and don't pay which never happened, they go to hell and find you, but if request past tax reports from them, they drag their feet, they don't find me in their system, they always put my name wrong in their system, they glue my middle name with lastname and causes all the confusion. But if you owe tax and don't pay, there is no confusion, they find you in the hell. I hate the IRNS bunch of incompents and entitled. It's so immoral and insult to Americans the freaking Biden sending billion, trillion $ to Ukraine while here hard workers legit American starving, losing their home, staying in the street, bad health system, etc. I am very disappointed. That's why people want's to renounce. Tired of the corruption, stupid people volting on jerk politicians. I could do better job.

The biggest potential drawback to expatriation is culture shock. If you move abroad and renouncer your citizenship you need to understand that this is a decision that is generally irrevocable. Surveys suggest that Americans who move abroad have very high rates of repatriation because for unknown reasons they didn't understand that foreign countries have different cultures, are often populated by people who don't speak English, and are not likely to be visited by their friends and family with great frequency. I am a very strong believer that no one should take any life altering steps that they can't undo quickly until they have lived in their new home country for at least five years.

Andrew, what percentage of the Americans that you see renouncing their US citizenship are entrepreneurs? I'm guessing it is mostly entrepreneurs because they are the ones earning enough to make it worth it and they have the ability and means to cut ties with the USA without their income being negatively affected. I think it is good to keep US citizenship until you're consistently making at least 150-200K per year from your own business or another means that doesn't depend on your USA citizenship.

@Яuяal Squiяяel I agree with both of you. I'm leaving because I hate it here, the police brutality is out of control. Obviously racism is an issue everywhere but it is clearly not leaving the US anytime soon and I hate how belligerent people here are about it. I just want to meet new people because I'm tired of taking sides and dealing with such broad and complex problems due to systemic racism, it's just overwhelming and annoying at this point. I'm also going because I'm a licensed cosmetologist, I'm great at my art,and I love what I do. I want to start my own hair and skincare place. But I also want basic things like health insurance because Obamacare takes me off my parents insurance when I turn 26. I want a place to live of my own but I live in Brooklyn, and its impossible in New York to really have anything home or rent wise, especially for a business of any type or magnitude. Car insurance can run upwards of $300 a month. There's tornadoes in the midwest, hurricanes to the south, flooding here and to the north,and earthquakes to the east. Not many options to live anywhere especially when everyone else is moving HERE. New York gets bigger, and pricier by the day. I just want basic things to establish and cultivate a life for myself and I PERSONALLY don't see that happening here. Not the things I want, and not in this economy, not under this president either. I know so many that are now stuck here staying in scholarship programs as much as they can to stay here on student Visa because they can't afford to move out of a dorm but they also can't afford college here so they have to do extra just to stay on scholarship and not be homeless. I just think its ridiculous especially when degrees don't even guarantee a job or a secure life. All it really guarantees is debt. I don't want to keep accumulating debt and that seems like the American way of living. Unless you're born to millionaire parents.

I believe it's the case that if a US citizen has a brokerage account (in the US), and then renounces his US citizenship, the renunciation of his US citizenship is effective to eliminate his tax obligation on capital gains that are subsequently realized within his brokerage account. Or, to put it another way, I'm pretty sure that the IRS welcomes investment capital from foreigners, and doesn't try to "punish" them by taxing capital gains that are realized within their US-domiciled brokerage accounts.
@maverick56463 жыл бұрын
afaik, capital gains on securities is tax-free for foreign investors/traders (e.g. UK citizen trading US-stocks/bonds/futures/options/ETF's throught Interactive Brokers), only dividends are taxed. Is it the same for US citizens or they have to pay some tax on that?
@dlukton3 жыл бұрын
@@maverick5646 Hell YES, US citizens have to pay capital gains taxes. The tax is 15% on amounts up to $200K; 19% on amounts above $200K, and 24% on amounts above $441K (In citing these numbers, I have applied the "Obamacare" tax where applicable). And that's for positions that are held for at least one year. For positions held LESS than a year, the tax burden can be quite a bit higher. Furthermore, Joe Biden wants to INCREASE the capital gains tax. And so, as I posted in my initial comment, a US citizen who has significant investment capital can significantly lower his tax burden by renouncing his citizenship; although in some cases he may be able to benefit from the FEIE (foreign earned income exclusion) without having to renounce.
@maverick56463 жыл бұрын
@@dlukton dude, this is so BS. I think US citizens deserve much more respect than that, especially keeping in mind how hard it is to become a long-term profitable at the financial markets. I think such income should be treated in the same way as gambling-income treated in UK, i.e. tax-free (or really close to that level). You may know, UK taxes only gambling operators which basically have a risk-free income, but none players. I live in Russia and here are a lot of guys which trade US-stocks/futures on a daily-basis (they are day trading, i.e. buy-sell at the same day). Obviously most of them fail to make consistent profit. But you know how much taxes pay those who are profitable? It's a 6% tax on the income which is not exceed $2m, that's all (it's called Individual Entreprenuer/Sole-proprietor tax regime). And everyone pays 13% tax on US-dividends, no matter what regime you use (3% takes the broker, and 10% are paid to a local tax auth). And of course the true Pro traders just setup a company at Cayman Iselands, operate through it via corporate broker account and pay zero tax on capital gains while trading US-securities (if such Pro trader properly structured his CFC-rules obligations).

No-one born in a state is a United States citizen anyways other than by legal assumption, and I can prove this by showcasing the laws that make this a fact. The United States are a separate government with regard to the 48 continental states. They legally assume that state citizens are United States citizens due to benefits state citizens apply for and from state citizens checking "Are you a United States Citizen" on employment applications. This assumption has gone uncontested for decades and stands to this day, but if people literally read the Constitution and the Nationality Act, along with correlating USC codes, they'd discover that they've actually never been a United States Citizen because they never met the legal requirements to be that type of citizen. So when you state expatriation from the U.S. the question is how, if you've never actually was a U.S. Citizen other than by legal assumption.

I'm not finding anything in this country making sense at all. I've done everything I was told to do, followed the law, got the education....Won't ever vote "democrat again" that's for sure. It's nice to know the option is there though. It started out that I was merely interested in the way of life in Russia, and now I'm not sure I can even consider myself a citizen, really. Where are all my rights?What are all these lawyers for? Who knows.

That is inaccurate. You can live inside America, and still not pay taxes. US citizens do t even have to pay taxes unless they are an employee of the state [of], a dependent, or receiving benefits. Otherwise, EVERYONE is paying taxes unnecessarily.

I hear you! Homeless US citizens don't pay taxes yet they get by with odd-jobs here and there even if their lucky with averaging $12,000 a year and their living inside America!

@@retro9173 I'd like your comment, except that we're talking about homeless people, and there is nothing to like about people being homeless, but thank you instead because the state assemblies' outreach should start with the homeless. You have a great point because becoming an American State National for them would give them that, and more; including diplomatic immunity from statutory law. I'm going to make it an idea to bring up with assembly members. Thanks!

@@np856 Get a tourist visa and then have a baby in the USA. Or, Pay someone $30k for a fake marriage is probably one of the most realistic ways. High tech labor can start with a work visa. You can apply to an american school and if you have a student visa, and speak english, a work visa is easier to come by. The marriage way is illegal though and if the government can somehow prove its a fake marriage they can strip you of your green card.
