I've always done my own publishing. This has served me well in the long run as I currently keep more of my pie 🙂 . The draw back to this I saw early on is that the people who are a part of the big label/publishing machine will try to block you from work because they are not getting a big enough piece of your pie. It all comes down to the individual producer and what they are ultimately after. I wanted to be able to dip in and out of the industry as I choose while keeping most of my revenue. And that's what I got 🙂 Great post bro!

I appreciate this gem bro. If 6 songs a year is the type of deal I get, I can that done in less than a month. Right now, I work on 3 songs a week on average. Nothing major, but I can definitely keep up with the big dogs.

That explains why my homie producers are working with big artists they are pretty much either signed or have a publishing deal.I rather stay independent producer work with local artist instead don’t have to worry about paying a huge amount of money back to the label f that

What if a producer has a manager but signs a co publishing deal is the manager replaced or does the manager collect other royalties instead? I’ve heard that publishers can kinda act as a manager in a way

Publishers only act as a manager for your compositions. You can choose to let your main manager collect a revenue percentage of your publishing or not during their term.

What if I sign to a co-publishing deal with no advance? They are only taking 25%. I owe them nothing since I didn’t take the loan. My deal is also shorter than 5 years!

Do these major publishers take the entire 50% of the producers pub share or do they really take 25% which is half the 50% pub producers normally receive on records they produced.

You explained it two different ways but they are both the same, yes. You can also say the a co-pub deal is a 75/25 income split 75 to producer 25 to publisher.

The answer is if a songwriter have a Music Publisher it would be better cause it’s easier to find the hit for the Music industry and make more money and the Royalties checks to Get money for the lifestyle for you and thats is a Pro and the con is not Getting your records out cause you Got help instead of making it to hard but you can Get a copyright if its supposed to but if not top notch it will not work cause it was to hard and thats a con cause Nikki Minja or Jay Z is a Co-Producer or Pro-Producer but its 70 30 but if the co-producer help with the project the co-producer will be able to do something with the song and Get 15 Percent of the song wth in the contract.
