@@toddzerst8223 True, but given that he can apparently bind even an otsotsuki with his shadow possession for a second, even one or two clones would probably be enough for him to catch just about any criminal the leaf was up against. In a one on one fight he’d never be that strong, but he could take anyone into custody if he wanted. Of course, that’s true with or without clones, but I still think they’d suit his fighting style extremely well. Just like how kakashi uses substitutions and clones to bait out his opponents and get a read on their abilities, I think shikamaru could easily do the same.. Though probably it caps there, again, same issues as kakashi. It’s be great for diversions and tactics though, he’d be pretty much unstoppable at the jonin level with his intelligence.

Shikamaru is Naruto's right hand. And rightly so. Sasuke and Naruto trauma bonded but Shikamaru and Choji accepted Naruto even when they were young. They didn't treat him differently and only get disappointed at him if he do something "stupid". After maturing, they are still close friends and Shikamaru's loyalty to Naruto goes beyond that he will plot against another nation to protect him.
