move the last bunk back 6'' redrill holes and you can cut up to 20' long log . do 1st cut then rotate log half turn cut then 1/4 turn then half turn. take log off then rotate to un cut end level cut end and cut to match height then rotate 90 and repeat.

If you need to cut longer boards you can flip the log around and finish the cut that way , little more work but if you need some longer boards it will work

Good video y'all! So you mentioned something called a blade stabilizer, and as you were milling there I was wondering why you didn't have your blade guide arm closer into your log. But perhaps that's the piece you're referring to? Regardless the log or cant size, I always kept my blade guide arm within a couple inches of the log to ensure proper tension.
@HomesteadFresh
@HomesteadFresh 3 жыл бұрын
That's the word! For the life of me, I couldn't think of it 😂 Yes, blade guide arm... We didn't get it, but should have. Looking at getting one soon 😀

So in short. Everything is a pro as long as you get all the functional accessories. That's pretty much what i figured. I plan on getting one of these units but I'll get one extension two packs of blades, The bigger motor, the sharpener and setter, siding option, Cover, a set of quick clamps for the 126 to upgrade this machine, the sliding blade adjuster and on and on. It's gonna run me a bit over 6 grand with taxes and shipping but then I'm only paying that shipping one time. It has always made total sense to buy every option you can, even if you don't see a need for it because all of a sudden the model is discontinued and then you find yourself searching for the options. Anything I can't easily make myself is easier to just buy initially. Like ramps and winches I can simply build all of that myself. Besides, even for people that aren't sure or decide to upgrade this mill will have better resale with all the bells and whistles. Maybe the prospective buyer of your used mills wants to make siding. well then the siding attachment makes it a guaranteed sale even if your used mill has other problems. It makes it worthwhile for them to repair.
@HomesteadFresh
@HomesteadFresh 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, and we completely agree. Unfortunately, we were not in the financial position to buy everything we wanted since we just purchased our property - but we do plan to upgrade. Thank you for the very in-depth comment, your points are fantastic 😃

@@HomesteadFresh Ya. neither am I. Have to finish paying off the loan on a 53 Road grader I bought for building roads for my kids and my mother before I can take another to buy this machine. But when I buy it I get all the bells and whistles or I wait till I can. I've learned from all my mistakes, but, I don't regret any or the wisdom. My regrets have always been not going far enough.

How long do the blades stay sharp on clean logs just a guesstimate , and witch size do you like
@HomesteadFresh
@HomesteadFresh Жыл бұрын
It's lasted for quite a few logs, though I haven't really noted how many, and we just use the general blade but have considered going with the hard wood blade. We've put 18 hours in and changed the blade twice (once was our fault though for hitting metal).

I saw one at work the other day. The 122 7.5 Hp.The track rails the saw head slid on seemed fairly light duty. it does have adjustable feet. They did manage to saw some fairly large pine logs.F airly short because they didnot have the track extension. I had aThomas sawmill 14 Hp honda. In theory it could do a 16 foot log.I n reality 12 was about the limit. I found the Thomas to be fairly crude.
@HomesteadFresh
@HomesteadFresh 2 жыл бұрын
We wish we would have purchased the extension, but hindsight 20/20... We may get it in the future. The tracks take a pretty good beating and haven't given us any issues, but our logs max out at 22" diameter and 10' long. So it's been working great for our needs. Really appreciate you stopping by and commenting 😊
@kennkid9912
@kennkid9912 2 жыл бұрын
@@HomesteadFresh I think 10 feet is about max in the basic mill. 10 feet is not that great a a usage length. I was surprised they didnt have 12 6 as standard. 12 feet long is handy. i think you could make a track extension fairly easily. bolt it, If you dont weld. I think their extension bolts on the end of the standard? The components can be made easily too. log dog ,log clamp, bunks. Good luck.

Did you compare other mills before you bought it, if so, what made you decide on this mill
@HomesteadFresh
@HomesteadFresh 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Ultimately, the throttle controlled water with the stainless steel tank was a major deciding factor. Another factor was that it didn't have a bunch of extra "bells and whistles"... I didn't want a lot of electronic buttons and functions since the more "things" there are, the more "things" that can go wrong. And the price was very reasonable of course. Thanks for stopping by 😊

We actually have two videos on that... The first, we couldn't finish because we were missing some bolts. The second was the actual assembly. Together, it took my wife and I (taking out the time we paused to wait for the bolts), about 8 hours. Seems long I know, but there was time for moving the camera since we were filming, taking breaks, and I was working with my wife... So there is that 😂 Just kidding, she's great. why did you decide on this mill vs woodmizer?
@HomesteadFresh
@HomesteadFresh 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of the decision was simply because of the aluminum water tank and the water being set to the throttle versus valves that have to be manually cut in and off. Also, it was more cost effective. Since getting it, I have absolutely no regrets - it's everything I expected with the added bonus of amazing customer service. Appreciate you stopping by and commenting 😊

Watching you leaning over to watch the blade as you cut makes my back hurt. Try turning the handle as far forward as it will go and walk in front of the mill, pulling it along with one hand. No bending over, and you see what the blade is going to encounter before it gets there.
