So, what I've gathered from the final part of Octo Expansion is that (major spoilers) the Crazy Telephone took control of Agent 3. Then after that failed due to one epic pre-final boss, the Crazy Telephone takes its true form, Commander Tartar. Assuming control of the remains of the giant human statue left behind by mankind, he reveals his plan was to -show the world the power of blenders, seriously he has too many of those things- use data from test subjects and their DNA in order to create the ultimate species his creator invisioned by blasting Inkopolis apart in a style similar to DK64. A combination of Marina's quick thinking, Agent 8's co-operation and Pearl's ultimate battle cry of doom (which also obliterated all Pearl haters) took down the massive statue. What a thrilling conclusion and much more climactic than the normal hero mode ending.

This Dood that sounds about right, because the agents of squidbeak seem to be the only ones who know that octarians are alive and stealing the power source. The news about the power source missing seems like it just went missing or lost to everyone else, that there are no one else who would steal it. Inklings are pretty clueless about the octolings. The problem about your theory is that after the war, octolings didnt just die, they went underground. We dont know if the inklings know that they went underground. Maybe when they went underground and probably was never seen for a couple years, the inklings assumed that they were dead. I hope that they find out that octolings are real and not extinct, but i hope they dont start a war again. Edit: i forgot about the fact that pearl says when you buy octo expansion on the news she says that the octolings hairstyles were a new trend and didnt know that they wer octolings, which supports your idea

Inklings in general doesnt know the existance of octarians, they only know that the great zapfish is gone for some reason (in their perspective). The only one that knows their existance is the squidbeak platoon so i think its more of them than inklings in general. I wrote a Splatoon 2 fanfic. This is it so far. I'll edit the comment if I write more. ( HEADS UP: The main character is Agent 4 before he joined the Squidbeak Splatoon. ) Splatoon 2 fanfic It was a strange day. The Splatfest last night had left me noticeably shaken. I was on the OJ Without Pulp team, then did my 20th Salmon Run shift. Upon returning home, I cuddled up with my Marina plushie and went straight to sleep. When I woke up, I grabbed my weapons and left. When I got to Inkopolis Square, I had three options. I could go up to that girl in the kimono who kept going into that grate, I could investigate the subject of my research, that subway station, or I could do a couple Salmon Run shifts and pretend I had never made these desicisons. Strangely, I picked the second option. I got out my Splat Brella and looked all innocent and nice, but then I got to the station itself. I turned into my squid form and slid right through the grate with ease. I tip-toed down the steps and saw a sign that read: " Deepsea Metro. " I continued to walk when I saw Pearl and Marina, although they had different outfits. Pearl was rocking a gold necklace and silver crown, while Marina had her normal outfit, as well as a white scarf tied around her forehead. Then I realized. This is why they weren't in their studio! Then I spotted an old man in a green tracksuit, and... an Octoling! The only Octoling I had met before was Marina, so this was a great discovery! I followed them for a while, and learned the Octoling's name was Agent 8. Oh, and the oldie's name is Capn' Cuttlefish. I followed them around the station and heard a large ' SQUISH! ' sound. ' Ew, I stepped in something... ' I muttered before the blue gloop I stepped in reformed! Apparently it's name is C. Q. Cumber, but I quickly shuffled on by. I followed Pearl, Marina, Capn' Cuttlefish, and Agent 8 for about 4 hours, but then Agent 8 spotted me. ' An... Inkling... ' she stuttered. ' But isn't Pearl an Inkling too? ' I asked. ' Y-yeah... But... ' ' Relax, Agent 8. ' I consoled her. ' Y-you know my name?! ' she said, shocked. I didn't know how to explain it. ' Look, wanna visit my place? ' ' Um... Okay? ' she answered. On the way back, I asked, ' So, if you're Agent 8, what happened to the first 7 agents? ' ' Well, I saw Agent 3 there, but I don't know about the other 6. ' she responded. After a quick visit, we worked a few Salmon Run shifts together, ( Agent 8 seemed very scared of the Maws. ) played a few matches, ( Me and Clam Blitz go together like peanut butter and jelly. ) and then went back to my place. When we got back, it seemed obvious we were made for each other. I got my Octobrush ( Agent 8 surprisingly didn't react to this. ) and drew a line of ink down the middle of the room and moved all the stuff to my side, while Agent 8 put all her stuff on the other side. It reminded me of a movie called SPLAT-E where two robots fall in love. That's us. In love. The End. P.S. Marina hasn't heard about this.

I honestly don’t care about spoilers from Octo Expansion since I won’t be buying it yet, but please stop putting spoilers in your thumbnails. Someone can be just scrolling through their recommendations trying to find something to watch and see your video with the thumbnail. That person will then be spoiled because of the spoilers in your thumbnail. No one can escape that. Next time, please post a video about all bosses in a game a few days after it released so people can enjoy it without being spoiled by the thumbnail.
