So I fixed a big dent on a corner piece of aluminum trim on a camper. Used your small shot bag and a slipper to shrink the dent and get it close. To finish I took a polyurethane caster I had laying around and with hand pressure on top of my table saw was able to get a smooth finish on the piece. The mobile wheel looks like something a hobbyist could also mount on a bench and use any number of ways. Watching your videos keeps my mind in overdrive! Thanks Wray. Great stuff.

@@proshaper Wray that mobile English wheel is genius 👌 DIY plans and a how to plan will be huge. Also a DIY video on your mobile plannishing hammer would be cool as well. Would work great for guys hammering out welds on roof skin replacement and guys doing custom hot rod work with chopped roofs exc. Both videos would be great for the channel to grow. More diy Tool videos for those who love to build there own stuff and don't have huge bank accounts. Older dolly restorations like you did with the hammers. DIY stands to hold Dollies and jigs for hand formed metal work. All kinds of cool stuff.

The triangle from a road race bicycle makes a decent plannishing hammer / English wheel frame. The head tube and the down tube can be cut and made to accept both hinge and working bits. This allows a geometry swapping option to be supplied standard. Once we ramped up production the other one was second nature. Reynolds 531, Invisible 10° Train Track Bikeless in Milliseconds trick and a Columbus 4130, Liquored Up, Padul to the Mwadal Oldsmobile 442 Red Light Drag in R are my favourite self recycled frames. No memory blanks make them special.

I like your portable English wheel and planishing hammer. I also have a recommendation for an improvement to the English wheel or any similar hinged tool. The recommendation is to use a toggle type clamp to close/open the hinge. That would speed things up quite a bit. Open the toggle to make pressure adjustments=no need for wrench of any type on the adjustment, plus you can open the toggle to enter and leave the workpiece. No need to change pressure adjustment to clear flanges or rims on the workpiece. The toggle could possibly be built from a pair of Vise-Grips or some style of De-Sta-Co clamp or custom designed.

In reference to annealing aluminium. When I was a plumber we used to use a bar of soap to tell the annealing temperature. Rub the soap on like a crayon , then heat the metal until the soap turns black. Or you could buy a cheap ir thermometer from Amazon.

I have tried every method, the best I have found is draw some scribble lines with a Magic Marker on the panel, then soot it up. Burn off the soot and then the marker.

Wray, my question is where do you find 2” wheels in shapes required to get into various radius? How did you turn the roller sideways at the 90 degrees from straight as you began? I am impressed but missed it, wasn’t shown as it looks welded solid! DK, ASE master, Omaha. Retired.
@proshaper2 жыл бұрын
We make all of our top wheels and anvils. We can make any size. All English wheels should have the ability to rotate the upper and lower yoke 360 degrees. That is how we make all of our English wheels.
