There's some decent gold in the rivers and streams near the vermillion iron range, Mn. If you poke around enough in that area you may even find the source. There were bits of hydrothermal gold that got deposited in the mineralized quartz veins. The gold typically likes to ride in the quartz veins that run through the banded iron jasper. Looks like you're having a blast, keep it up!!

we've run quite a lot of material from our farm land on the egde of the glacial lakes in ND through a small sluice box. Found a couple pieces that acted heavy enough to be gold, but it was so small we couldn't confidently say it wasn't pyrite. I am from eastern SD and I think this whole region of the mid-west is similar in a way because we are all sitting on top of a solid flat tectonic plate, and I remember reading about drilling samples in my area, not much gold around here either. I believe most of the ground is solid granite underneath us that goes miles deep. And if that's the case, any gold veins are miles deep too. And in the black hills in South Dakota they've found gold because there's mountains there but the gold mines out there nowadays go over a mile underground.
@ghost_ship_supremeАй бұрын
I have core samples from various locations here in ND. Don’t know what they contain, but I have them! They’re each very different, and some are shinier than others. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s pyrite. You can often find quarts in fields and stuff! Farmers here often find interesting rocks in fields. We’ve found things such as arrowheads and ancient hammers, to pink quartz chunks the size of a chicken! There are some “sand pits” around that have natural sand in them; they’re often used for construction. Maybe they have gold in them too!
@GlacialGoldHunterАй бұрын
You never know where the glaciers sprinkled a little gold.
@xlerb2286Ай бұрын
Yup, I live in that part of the world, it's clay all the way down ;) And it's been a very wet summer so water is up everywhere in the region. There are old sandbars running along the sides of the Red that may be of interest but getting access to them could be an issue. They tend to be the more built up areas as the are some of the highest land around the river. Another area that may be of interest is the Devils Lake region. That was the southern tip of the glacial advance and there are lots of small sand/gravel deposits around there. I have land up there with little bits of gravel on it. I've tried panning and never found anything, but I'm no expert.

@chuckbowen5024Ай бұрын
Yup. The only guy that ever made money in gold mining in ND was the guy selling shovels to the miners. Our gold is a lot deeper and it's black. Would it pay to dig into an esker? I imagine you'd have to move a lot of real estate though. Glaciers made some pretty interesting land forms around here. Northern Barnes County has some massive erratics along the terminal moraine. South of the interstate there is what is called sugar hills between San born and Litchville. And a glacial lake called Moon Lake. About 80 ft. deep. There is a Continental divide between the James and the Sheyenne Rivers. They start within a few miles of each other but the Sheyenne flows into the Red and winds up in Hudson Bay and the James flows into the Missouri and winds up in the Gulf of Mexico thanks to a big black rise on the SD border you can see 30 miles away called the Sisseton Hills. Glaciology is fun.

You are looking at evidence of the Great Flood. Genesis 7:17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. 18 And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. 19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. 20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.

This lake was not a global lake. It has shorelines that can clearly be seen. This was a glacial lake. And only a fraction of the size of the ocean.
