Your story popped up on my feed for whatever reason tonight and it touched my life. I have a daughter that is 16 and looks a lot like you, so it immediately made me think of her and how hard it would be to see her seriously hurt in anyway. I could never imagine everything you are going through and to see you in high spirits is very encouraging. I’m sure that there is so much we don’t see that is incredibly hard and I can honestly tell you that you will be in my prayers. This young lady really stole my attention just with her upbeat and never quit personality. She took all this in stride. She just keeps smiling. How can you not want to help a young lady like this. Nobody has ever recovered from a C-6 break w/spinal cord damage like hers. Just like amputees: god never heals them. Her only hope is medical technology.

@@TheBeingReal Agreed. I have a C5/6 level of injury and that was 11 years ago. I don’t expect I will ever walk again. I am lucky to have full bowel and bladder function and my hands work quite well so I’m good. Plus I have a supportive husband.

Nibbie, yes, some activities are more dangerous than others, however…driving is the most dangerous of all! My son is paralyzed from chest down from an accident in 2018, and the stories we heard while away in a specialty rehab were craaaazy! One of the girls who was injured was in a hammock when the tree literally broke and fell on her - and she suffered a spinal cord injury. Lots of car accidents, lots of diving into lakes accidents, football and basketball accidents, etc. You would not believe, I was shocked to hear these random stories and of course they all happen to very young people which is truly tragic. My point: gotta live life with a reasonable modicum of care and PRAY. Sigh….

It's funny how it is called a freak accident and no one, ever once speculates, that people should not be "tumbling" through the air. I am not sure what "cheering" is or why it is so important. By the way, this football she "cheers" also causes similar paralyzing accidents on a regular basis. There was that guy Eric LeGrande at Rutgers for example. Both of these "sports" should be banned.

I used to tumble cheer when I was younger and as soon as I saw another girl's arm snap in half the opposite direction like a twig I was like nahhhh. I also landed on my head/neck once and luckily was ok but it made realize the risk wasn't worth it.

She was probably just doing a few easy skills with her friends. A lot of us who can tumble will always do a few skills when there’s grass. And I’m sure it was a skill she could typically do in her sleep

@@hannahlang9983 While I can appreciate your reasoning here. I still personally do not think the backyard was a suitable place for her to practice in. Despite the exercise she was performing, and no matter how you look at it. A backyard is not exactly a controlled environment, per-se. Especially if it was small and largely confined/cluttered. At the very least, they could have gone to an open field near her home (with proper supervision in place, as she is still underage), and perhaps some mats to make sure they break her fall. Or something else to cushion the impact. Even if it was a skill she could do in her sleep, even experts with years of experience can make mistakes and suffer life-long injuries. To me, I feel very sympathetic to the girl and her family. I really do. But I also feel as if this situation could have been easily avoided if proper measures were taken.

@@rurazar1686 your completely right it’s not safe and it’s made me take a step back when just deciding to do a back flip when there’s grass but unfortunately it’s something all tumblers do and we don’t even think about it. It definitely could have been avoided if she hadn’t but I know I’ve tumbled on grass millions of times and I’m fine so I’m sure she had too and didn’t think much of it. Unfortunately it takes someone to get injured for us to take a step back and think nvm I shouldn’t do this on grass so I’m sure many tumblers will stop now and it will prevent more injuries
