does calciifcations support bacteria in chronic bacterial prostatitis? and can they cause symptoms if they are large?

The calcifications themselves do not support bacteria, but they can be a consequence of long-standing inflammation or infection. Once formed, these calcifications might serve as a focal point for recurrent bacterial infections, making it difficult to completely remove the bacteria. Large calcifications can potentially cause symptoms. These might include discomfort or pain in the pelvic area, difficulties with urination, or even contribute to urinary tract obstruction in severe cases.

The primary goal of HoLEP is to relieve urinary symptoms by removing the part of the prostate that is obstructing urine flow, rather than treating prostatitis or removing calcifications specifically. However, if calcifications are contributing to urinary obstruction or are part of significantly enlarged prostate tissue being removed during HoLEP, they may be indirectly addressed by the procedure.
