This is crazy . Go for the checkups every 6 months , then biopsy , then radiation , then surgery from those doctors , but they will never ever ask the patients what are their life style is , what are they EATING ? They will never ever mention to patients : "How about you try the carnivore diet for a 6 months and then come back and we will check this PSA ? " I am now for the past 4 years on a carnivore diet and I have no reason to see a doctor for at least past 6 years , unless if I brake my leg or other injury . I'm 63 and thriving like never before . Feeling way better then I was 17 :-) .

I am 64 and I have totally given up on my doctors. I eat one meal a day which has no or extremely few carbs, I work out and I weigh 168 which is merely 8 lbs overweight. I will not go for checkups.

Doctor should tell them to 100% avoid alcohol and smoking. Get daily sunlight, sex, exercise and 8 hours quality sleep. Reduce stress. Move to the beach. Change job or spouse if in a toxic relationship. And of course, eat correctly for their specific age, race, activity levels, past health history and present health status.

@@ianstuart5660 part of the problem, they take insurance and waste money with insurance companies and programs. Too many people allow their employer (who provides the insurance) or the government insurance to get into their private lives and bed. I take cash only, on retainer just like a lawyer which allows me and colleagues to be will to provide 1 minute or 1 hour or even one week of 24 hour service. Whatever the patients what. They are the boss, they are the customer. Insurance has destroyed the client / provider portion of the medical industry. Universities destroying the education side and pharmaceutical companies making capitalism look bad.

Thanks for the great discussion. I've had high PSA for 14 years (4.1--11.2), 3 biopsies, 2 MRIs and no Pca. For me it's been much ado about nothing. But, as Dr. Thomas says, it's all about finding the aggressive kind at an early stage, which is much less common, but deadly. Everything to do with the prostate is tricky, every test imperfect, every decision calculated guesswork. Welcome to Prostateland!

Simple PSA is unless. Digital prostate is also usually grossly inaccurate even when done by a urologist. Multi parametric MRI will give accurate prostate size and PSA density _(useful)._

I'm 58 and have an enlarged prostate for well over 14 years (so long I can't remember exactly from when!). Doesn't cause me any problems and at least since going low carb a few years ago it has not got worse. My first PSA test was in 2014 and since then it has been consistent at around 0.5 ug/L

I can't agree with not having a rectal exam. I am 70 and had BPH since 50 with a psa of 4.0 Psa has floated around 4 since I was 50. Last year I went for exam for Resume procedure and had a rectal exam. Prostate was found to be hard and lumpy. Had a biopsy and showed I have Gleeson9 cancer prognosis. Very agressive prostate cancer now metastasized and spread to my pelvis. GET A RECTAL EXAM. PROBABLY SAVE YOUR LIFE!

PSA velocity is the main giveaway. I had a radical prostatectomy in 2013. I was 58 at the time. My PSA at the time was 3.68. The issue is that it had jumped by around 75% in a year. The absolute value is not really valuable at all. Low free PSA with high velocity calls for a biopsy. Digital exam really is worth basically nothing in my opinion, unless I guess the cancer is really advanced. I had no symptoms. My two siblings had the same experience around the same time. We all had biopsys, Gleason (3,4) diagnosed, and the op. Fortunately, we are all doing well up to now. PSA checked annually, < 0.05 every year.

Great video. I'm wondering why the prostate seems to be a weak link in human physiology.
@trail.blazer
@trail.blazer Жыл бұрын
Maybe it's only a weak link when it is 'attacked' by modern lifestyle. Insulin is a growth factor which some people suggest causes the prostate to grow larger. Many things appear to be correlated with increased cancer, particularly seed oils, then of course high carbs increase insulin, plus many cancers love glucose.

I had my prostate removed in 2019. I go back to my urologist every 6 months for followup. I get a PSA and digital exam. I asked why the urologist feels the need to do a digital exam since I no longer have a prostate. It was suggested it was done to generate billables.

My fathers PSA was normal and his doctor did a rectal exam and felt something abnormal. He was 58 years old and it was cancer but they caught it in the nick of time as it had broke through the prostate, gleason score of 7. He is now 67 and did have some radiation done in the prostate bed last year because his PSA got up to .2 He has been at zero ever since.

High PSA is an indication of an enlarged prostate, has nothing to do with cancer, I've always had a high PSA, with the exception of after my prostate surgery it was 2.5 after that, now it's been running like 8 for years had biopsy's scans you name it, I've had an enlarged prostate since I was about 50,when I had green laser surgery.

I wish I had the choice...since my Colorectal surgeon retired it is like pulling teeth to get my GYN to do a rectal to make sure there is no reoccurrence and since my CA was found early grade 1. SOC dictates I don't get to have another PET scan until the 5 yr mark. which happened during covid but the last time i saw my Onc he wanted me to get the poke I said absolutely not and they haven't called me back for follow ups. btw i had a 3.25X 3.45 cm squamous cell mass on the back side of the anal sphincter w/ bx only and chemo/rad sandwich with 5FU

I started taking pygeum and saw palmetto berry to reduce DHT and stave off prostatic hyperplasia, including the problems that come with it. That plus lower insulin of fasting and eating whole foods, mostly animal based and seed oil avoidance, will help keep my prostate normal sized and healthy.

Do chronically high insulin levels cause prostate dysfunction and cancer?
@frankenz66
@frankenz66 Жыл бұрын
Believed to be yes. I know my symptoms of BPH improved getting off high carbohydrates and seed oil fats.
@Bass.Player
@Bass.Player Жыл бұрын
I believe it does, certainly as it pertains to BPH. Insulin is anabolic particularly when you also consider IGF1 so this is what I believe causes BPH and therefore dysfunction. I don't think testosterone/androgen is the culprit realizing at what time in a males life is testosterone the highest, it's probably during puberty and for some time thereafter when there is no occurrence of BPH. We only seem to get BPH when our testosterone is at a very low point. So if you are insulin resistant you would be more likely to experience BPH due to higher levels of circulating insulin. IMO...

I am much older (84) and also have had an enlarged prostate. I kept it stable for years using turmeric paste. However, since I jumped on a keto diet, after less than 90 days I noticed a terrific improvement. It indicates that my prostate is shrinking. So yes, keto works!
