Thank you. Very helpful. Because of the systems smaller diameter do you find it a challenge to obturate with heated vertical condensation. I use the system B system?

Hi Phil, thanks for the question. The short answer is no. There is still enough space created by the files to allow for the cones to fit properly and for you to use the System B. You may need to use smaller tips, but they do go down to sizes 30 and 35 as well if necessary. It depends a little on your obturation technique and philosophy, but we believe that you can still use the System B and down pack as necessary with ProTaper Ultimate. Happy endo!

The video is so useful and packed, I had to watch it again. If I get glide path using hand files like the Cpilot 10, can I skip (is it safe) the glider and go to the pro shaper ?

When we teach our advice is to go to a size 20 if you’re not using glider files (Slider, WaveOneGold Glider, ProGlider). With the Ultimate the shaper is a #20 and the Slider a #16 at the tip. We would not skip the Slider and go straight to the shaper if you only take the #10 hand file to length. The Slider is the important one for the transition, avoiding too much work with hand files and any issues they may create.

I have the same experience. It would not be safe to skip the glider. And you would miss the fun of the file moving smoothly.

thank you for the video, very useful. is this going to be a custom setting on the motor, or can we use protaper setting?

Thank you! You will need to change the settings slightly as the recommendation is 400rpm and 4ncm. Therefore slightly faster than the ProTaper Universal setting

How does this compare to Protaper Next?

Thanks for watching! ProTaper Ultimate is quite different in the design and the way it’s used. It has more options than ProTaper Next and a smaller wire at 1.0mm. One of the main differences is also the metal phase that ProTaper Ultimate is made out of. It is a heat treated NiTi which means it has shape memory; therefore it will not ping back once you bend it. ProTaper Ultimate is more comparable to ProTaper Gold, but a further evolution.

@@contemporaryendodontics Thanks for your reply. I find NEXT to be more conservative than UNIVERSAL, as safe as GOLD, but much more efficient. So I wonder why it has dropped off the radar.

In general it feels slimmer, more gentle, more subtle, but still quite powerful. It follows modern concept of preserving coronal dentin (PT next removes more coronal dentin than the ultimate).
