04:50 Tanks can shoot different rounds, some rounds can have high explosives. But when you see a tank shooting at another tank and you see an explosion it’s most likely because modern tank armor is made out of small squares of high explosives, so the explosion destroys the bullet and only small fragments hit the actual tank skin.

4:46 Tanks use many different types of rounds. Early tanks like WW2 - Korean War era used mostly AP (solid metal armor piercing slug) for penetrating other tanks, like you see in this video, and regular high explosive rounds packed full of tnt for dealing with infantry and structures.. They also used armor piercing high explosive rounds, which are set to penetrate a certain amount of armor, before detonating itself on the other side (inside the target tank). There are still many other types of rounds, but the most commonly used rounds in modern tanks are much different and more complex. The second most common, HEAT rounds, use a specifically shaped cone of metal with explosive packed behind it to produce a superheated jet of penetrating metal fragments on impact. And the most common in the modern day would be APFSDS rounds. (Armor-piercing fin stabilized discarding sabot) are basically just giant tungsten metal arrows that tanks fire at each other. Right back around to the the days of crosbows lol.
