A couple of my favorite details from the ending: I love that Nintendo went through the trouble of changing the title on the action from "Dive" to "Dive to Zelda" for the final dive, that was a completely unnecessary detail that made it that much more special. I also love that the very beginning of the game starts with Zelda falling and Link fails to catch her, and the game ends with Zelda falling again but this time Link makes darn sure to catch her.

I'll be honest, I could hardly see through my tears, and was so shocked I was suddenly supposed to grab my controller again that I didn't even noticed what the prompt said! I just saw her falling, and knew exactly what I had to do. All that skydiving practice wasn't just for clothing, or falling stars. It was all for that one, final moment...

Ganondorf was so obsessed with the power of the stone and is beaten by a guy that doesn’t even have one. Also I like how different Ganondorfs and Zelda’s dragon transformations are. He does it in a selfish attempt to save his own life. Zelda does it as a selfless action, sacrificing her life so that she can help Link defeat Ganon.

The word "masterpiece" gets thrown around a lot these days, but this game truly is a masterpiece. I've played every main console Zelda game from the very first NES one and this game was an amazing experience. This one, to me, had the most satisfying ending boss battle and ending to a story. This is the only game that's ever made me cry and I was so emotionally involved with this story that I couldn't help it. Prior to this, Ocarina of Time was my all time favorite and I never thought another game could come close, but Tears of the Kingdom might have not only tied, but take over the top spot. The way they brought the story full circle with Link failing to catch her at the beginning and ending with her in his arms was perfection. I can't say enough good things about this game.

Twilight Princess has always been my favorite Zelda title, and I've been grappling a lot with whether or not TOTK has replaced it. But it's hard to compare the two when they're such different gaming experiences. But TOTK is definitely one of the most emotional games I've ever played. I don't think I've ever cried this much, and this hard while playing anything in my life. Masterpiece through and through.

So, it’s not controversial to say that this is the best version of Princess Zelda to date, right? In BOTW, her plan to seal Ganon to buy time for Link was more out of desperation. But in TOTK, Rauru and Sonia allow her to study and be herself, allowing her to hone her skills naturally. As a result, she’s able to piece together what’s happening and formulate a calculated and long term plan to defeat Ganondorf in the future. She actually ends up embodying the Triforce of Wisdom (and courage with the whole dragon thing and power with the way she uses her time powers in battle and to repair the Master Sword imo) and creating her own legend. One really frustrating take I’ve seen is that Zelda turning back to normal at the end ruins the impact of her sacrifice, and that she should have stayed a dragon at the end. That would have made for an awful ending; for her to spend two games experiencing growth as a result of failure and loss of loved ones and learning to live with those experiences only to be forever consigned to essentially permanent sleep would have made for an emotionally inert ending and made the whole story a shaggy dog story. Rauru and Sonia loved her and promised to send her home to Link, and them helping Link change her back was their final act of love. It also makes for symmetrical storytelling since it parallels the beginning where Link fails to catch her. I feel like now Zelda can step out from the shadow of her father and create her own legacy, thereby avoiding becoming an inheritor to a kingdom of nothing like her father warned. This feels like the first time where Zelda doesn’t really feel like a damsel to me. Yes, you do save her from falling at the very end, but it feels more like you’re repaying her for everything she’s done to help you (and her kingdom) and less like you’re saving a helpless damsel. And the scene that happens right after Link brings her ashore is extremely heartfelt, with Zelda reflecting on her journey and realizing that she successfully did it just as Link did it.
@susiegrace
@susiegrace 10 ай бұрын
Absolutely not controversial, I agree 100%. This game gave Zelda so much more depth than she's ever had before, and my respect for her grew immeasurably. She tells Link at the end, "You did it!" No, Zelda. YOU did it. We made it happen together in the most beautiful way, and I couldn't have done it without her.
@WhiteHawk77
@WhiteHawk77 10 ай бұрын
Yeah I’ve seen a particular channel saying it wasn’t a good choice with bringing her back and I totally disagree with that, I admit the moment where they are both falling and you have to catch her calling back to not being able to catch her at the beginning, a save ten thousand years in the making was just too good and honestly made me well up, I could never argue with how they set that up and Zelda didn’t know she wasn’t going to be a dragon for the rest of time when she made that choice so the sacrifice is still valid, and she still did ten thousand years all the same.
@susiegrace
@susiegrace 10 ай бұрын
@@WhiteHawk77 I absolutely agree. Bringing Zelda back didn't negate her sacrifice at all! She believed with all her heart that she would never come back, and yet she still made the choice to become a dragon. And that makes all the difference. There was no light at the end of the tunnel when she made that choice. She only hoped there was for Link, and all those who came after her. I thought the ending was fitting, and beautiful. And clearly... it made me cry a lot 😂 I'm just glad she didn't remember all those years of loneliness, and that she felt like she'd been asleep.

I think TOTK is really different with other games. Cause you will fall in the TOTK’s world when you play the games. You build the relationship with NPC. So you will happy or sad when you know what happened with them. Specially if you had play BOTW, you will got more deep feeling, cause TOTK is your second time into the Hyrule, every NPC just like your old friend. And I must say, the music of this game is super amazing, it will make you emotion follow the music.
@davidwhidden9337
@davidwhidden9337 10 ай бұрын
The main issue is that a lot of the NPCs carry over between the games and only a select few remember you. Hateno village being the most egregious example. TOTK's world is more alive given the unspecified time frame between games. There's just so much that is unexplained though. It's great until you remember it's a sequel.

@susiegrace Thanks! Sorry to say I didn't cry. I don't cry easy (which can be a blessing and curse at times), but I did get emotional, which is impressive for a game. The whole final fight was really amazing, from the one on one duel to the aerial dragon fight! So awesome! By the way where do I find your Discord? Been looking around your KZbin channel and can't find it.

Discord link: discord.gg/yTxyfjG I'm so sorry I don't have that on my YT channel. I'll add it today. Don't worry, the fact that you didn't cry doesn't make the game any less amazing. Different people experience things in different ways. You loved it regardless, and had a great time playing it. And that's ultimately all that matters!

Did you REALLY finish TotK’s main story if you didn’t get atleast a little teary eyed toward the end?? I’m a 32 year old dude and the final dive hit me like a truck. It was something so simple yet done so wonderfully. When Zelda’s Lullaby hit? It was a wrap for me. The tears came pretty heavy. Genuinely haven’t felt like that about a game ending since first beating OoT back in 1998 funny enough. I never thought that game would be topped for me, but here we are. TotK was truly a masterpiece from start to finish for me. The first playthrough will go down as one of my fondest gaming memories.

I’ve had multiple people accuse me of fake crying in my comments, which is wild to me. TOTK absolutely wrecked me emotionally. I haven’t cried that much since beating FFVII for the first time, and even so, I think I cried more during TOTK. The game is a masterpiece indeed. I didn’t think they could top BOTW, but they did in every single way! And the way they were able to put Zelda’s Lullaby in with the music during that final fall was nothing short of magic. I loved it all!!

The post-credits kinda makes it sound like they still aren't done I completed the game over a week ago and it took me multiple days until I could function as a human being again. Honestly, I could hardly see through my tears, I didn't even noticed the "Dive to Zelda" prompt. I just saw her falling, and knew what I had to do. I love how the final Ganondorf battle he can deal permanent damage. My only issue with the game was dragon zelda having the master sword lodged into her skull. Couldn't they have just tied it to her leg with a note? I bet she had one hell of a headache from it.

FYI, this sounds silly. But you can fuse a shield to another shield. Creating a shield shield. It dramatically increases the durability and effectively doubles the number of shields you can carry.

@@susiegrace I will say, it does not increase the block rating of the shield or your defense. It just makes the shield take more hits before it breaks. But it is really useful. Unless you are fusing weapons or other items to your shields for attacking, if you are going pure defense for shields you should always fuse them together.

Usually i don't cry much in life and there were only a few games that made my shed a tear or two, but there has never been a game that made me feel 'emotionally exhausted' like this game has. The first kicker was the intro sequence, after which i had to pause the game and collect my thoughts and i finished the game a few days ago and i'm still working through it myself.

Oh man, the beginning had me sobbing, too. And honestly, I think I may cry at the beginning the next time I play through the game because now I know exactly what I'm in for. I don't care what anyone says, this is game of the year for me.

@D2daICE 10 ай бұрын
@@susiegrace Sorry if it was worded incorrectly. I didn't cry at the beginning, but the emotions were overwhelming, because A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Link's Awakening and the Oracle games are my childhood. So as someone who grew up with those games and seeing the 'connections' (or similarities) it was a lot to unpack and it did bring me back to my childhood. The ending in comparison was way too much in terms of what happened, how it happened and what it means (in context of the whole game) and this was after 350 hours of playtime. Currently i'm not sure how Nintendo might be able to make another TLoZ game that is anywhere near this, but the good thing about Nintendo is: They can still surprise us, even after 30 years. Yes, Nintendo is not perfect but that is a thing i really love about them. ps: I agree on your part about replaying the game and knowing the full context now. I'm tempted to play it again in my native language at some point, but the next games on my list are both Oracle games (through NSO).
