Square D™ Whole Home Surge Protection provides advanced appliance and electronics protection from surge damage. When surge protection is installed at the electrical panel, it helps protect all the devices in the home, including those that are not plugged into a surge plug strip (e.g. washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators).

My Square D panel is maxed out. Not slots to install another breaker. Can I install a surface mounted surge protector and share a 2 pole breaker or 2 single pole breakers?

yes, connected to a 20 amp or bigger breaker. Square-D lets you double tap, so 2 wires in a breaker the wire clamp if you look close, you see 2 wire slots built into the clamp, each wire must slide into that and then the screw for the clamp tightens down on both wires, just like it was one wire. Otherwise, use a short jumper wire to wire nut, the wire nut will have 3 wires joined together. 2 wire nuts are needed. CC in your locality may not allow double tapping a breaker, even if the breaker is made to do that. ideally the closer to the feed SEC wires you hook up a SP, the better.

His panel is maxed out. You can't install anything if the panel is full guy. And be careful as double tapping is a FIRE hazard and against code. IF your lug has two terminals on the same potential then connect away. Summation is stay OUT of the panel if you don't know what you are doing. @@scottdowney4318

When your outdoor AC compressor shuts OFF, voltage will increase for a quick period of time then settle out. That raw power has no place to go when the device cuts off. Same as water hammering in plumping. All that flowing water is moving through your pipes. You close a faucet. All that water is still traveling TO the faucet with NOW, no place to go. Valve is off now. That is what causes water hammering and your pipes rattling when you quickly close a faucet or valve.
