Several years ago, they featured something like this on This Old House, which they called a "Lawn Tea" using Kelp, coffee grinds and several other ingredients. This looks so much easier with similiar benefits. I really needed to apply this several weeks ago, but will certainly apply in the next two weeks before we hit the fall reseeding season.

Great video and recipe. I've been using organic lawn and garden products for 16 years now, but hadn't seen this particular recipe before. I live in South Texas where we have brutally hot summers which can be tough on our St Augustine lawns. Thanks for posting links to these products as well. I ordered the humic acid and kelp. I'll definitely be using this recipe later this week. Thank you amigo and have a great week!

I just want to thank you once again for the video.I started using it months ago and my lawn has never been so healthy and green even when we use to have a professional lawn care service. I did modify the formula at my own risk last month to accommodate my backyard garden as well. Instead of superthrive I substituted it for a product called AgroThrive. I waited for it to rain a day before then applied the formula. What I notice is I have to cut the grass every 5 days and increase yield to my garden. Even with this Texas heat, lawn and garden are not so stress out like before. It's TRUE a healthy root system is the key!

Curious if you have any updates on your spray results for the year. I sprayed every 2 weeks adding chelates iron every other spray. I used a finer spray to try to enhance foliar absorption. Must say the lawn looked its best ever this year Couldn’t find definite information whether humic is absorbed by foliage or only via soil drench In my opinion the humic really helped with iron uptake and the lawn greened up beautifully There’s such controversy out there about using any of this so I would love to know your opinion . I plan on doing it again in 2022. In addition to the reduced heat stress I saw a marked improvement in reduced soil compaction Mid Atlantic lawn with a TTTF restoration in progress Thank you for all your amazing content

For general spraying, I use a 12v automotive battery with a 12v utility pump, hooked up to a garden hose and nozzle. Pumping out of a standard 5 gal bucket. Also use soil probiotics with beneficial soil bacteria (Bacillus), i.e. B. subtilis, B. licheniformis, B. megaterium, B. mucilaginosus, B. laterosporus, photosynthetic bacteria, Actinomycetes, B. cereus, B.amyloliquefaciens, B. pumilus and mycorrhizal fungi (primarily Trichoderma). Soil bacteria are better as they are more resilient to adverse environmental changes. Organic fertilizer is added last.

I really enjoy your videos. Thank you. I needed to break your application rate down for my own yard size. Hopefully I did it right and it helps others. 8 fl. oz (1 cup) of sea kelp per 4 gallons for 2500-3000 sq ft in the video 4 fl. oz per 2 gallons for 1500 sq ft 2 fl. oz per 1 gallon for 750 sq ft so ~ .3 cups per gallon for 1000 sq ft = ~2.5 oz per gallon for 1000 sq ft = 5 Tablespoons per gallon for 1000 sq ft

I have been working hard on a two-year-old backyard of grass and had soil tests done and Rutgers soil lab telling me which fertilizer and when to apply and it has come out great but we are subject to high heat in New Jersey and I want to use this secret recipe. the one question I have is I can mix this liquid formula and apply it containing humic acid but in a more recent video you have humic DG which is granular so should I put that down and then make my liquid mixture just sea kelp and superthrive and apply everything on the same day?

Useful, I will have to calculate the US to UK gallons based on the US Ratio stated on the video. We have 8 pints to a gallon in the UK, our pints are bigger than US pints by 20.8 %. I remember that buying a Guinness on 5th Avenue in NY in 2002, 5 Dollars a US pint UK Pint was 21% more liquid and even in the south of England was about £2.50 a pint then ,the ER was 1.53 $ to the pound so UK Guinness was 3.83$ and English pint!!! US Beer expensive!! 👍

Thanks for a fantastic video. I am in FL, and it's been rainning every day for 2 weeks. There is 30+ probability of getting rain daily for the next 3 weeks with daily temperature above 90. Should I wait before applying this? If I were to apply it and get a ton of rain, can I apply it again a day later?

Reading through other comments, the mixture covers 2800-3000 sqft and can be applied once monthly starting in June, although I, personally would start apps in May. Silver Cymbal said in another comment that he applies when temps are steadily 75.

Hi. I love all your videos. I just purchased the 3 ingredients and I have a couple of questions. Today is May 11, 2020, when should I put it down for the summer heat? Is it just one application or do you keep putting it down over the summer? And finally, do you have to water it in after applying. Thanks so much. Take care, be safe. Hi, I recently purchased all the liquid products listed in the video. Wondering what the best spraying ratio is for the mix? 20:1 or something else? I bought a few of the Anderson's plastic hand sprayers and they spray at a 20:1 ratio. My backpack sprayer has been giving me problems so this is my backup plan. Thanks

When temps start top go over 75-80 for most of the day I will apply this once a month. You can do it more often but this will give a good result and still keep costs under control.

So, i staryed doing this this year, after seeing the video in the summer, as it was burning out from the heat. I modified the amounts, put it in the small yard sprayer, and added a beer and a teaspoon of Dawn dish soap. I found other simular formulas and just combined the best ones. MAN, DOES MY YARD LOOK SO MUCH BETTER. I add this to my yards about every 3 weeks. Thank you, what an improvement. Its so much thicker and greener. Looking forwars to seeing how it handles weeks over 95°.

@SilverCymbal

I know, I always hate the foam. I try to keep my videos clean but what I usually end up doing is slowly adding the water and allowing the foam to just run over the sprayer and then cap it from there. I haven't ever used those anti-foaming agents and probably wouldn't both and just keep it easier for you. It settles down on its own too. Thanks again for the support and watching.

Thank you very much for the nice comment. No add the concentrate to the sprayer and then top the sprayer off until you reach 4 gallons. Some have commented its better to add the water first and then the mix, if thats the case, just add about 3.75 gallons fist and the concentrate to reach 4 gallons. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching

@@SilverCymbal what's the application rate per thousand sq foot of yard? you mixed 4 gallons of final solution, but didn't indicate the amount of lawn area you covered with it.
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 4 жыл бұрын
@@loosecannon124 Yes the mix in the container was added to the sprayer to then make 4 gallons of solution. With that much walk at a normal pace to get an even covering of the grass, you dont have to go super heavy. It will vary how much you can do but for me the 4 gallons covered about 4000 sq ft. You can't over apply this, and you can under apply and still get benefits so this is one of the few treatments you don't have to strss yourself over. The grass will love any of this and the kelp.

Hey, great job !! Very good video. You should be commended for coming up with your own formula. However , im just a little fuzzy on the amount to use for my area.. My lawn is just under 1400 square ft...nice size for where i am, but alot smaller than what you're doing. Do i just mix up the 4 gallons and then spray the lawn till its all wet, or do i reduce the amount of the.additives..? I understand the amound of each are not exactly critical but my area is alot smaller . Im in the northeast and can hear my grass screaming already !! Love to try it. Again, well done !!
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the nice comment. For your sq footage. I would just cut everything in 1/2. Reduce each component in 1/2 which makes it easy. Add them to your sprayer and then fill it up to 2 gallons instead of 4. This should be enough for 1250-1500 sq feet. You can apply a little less or a little more, it will not harm the lawn. I found that my amounts give the best results without being wasteful so dont worry if you are off a bit. Hope this helps.

Hi Silver, just came across your video. I'm in Nashville and love my TTTF/KBG mix. This summer it was hit really hard with heat stress. Anyway Love this mix, I haven't put it down yet. Just got my ingredients in a couple days ago. Just have a question or two, can this be applied with a hose end sprayer and if not, are you watering it in immediately after application? I do use a backpack sprayer, however; I do like to use hose end at times for speed and to get product to the soil, unless it's foliar application. Your thoughts...

Can I apply JUST the diluted kelp, without Humic Acid or Superthrive? I'm already applying granular humic acid to the soil on a regular basis but I see a huge advantage to getting a liquid kelp onto the grass itself. What are your thoughts SC? Keep up the great work. You're helping tons of DIY'ers just like me.

@@Nas_JO I'm applying granular fertilizer, granular humic and biochar (HumiChar), and then spraying liquid kelp, all on a staggered cadence, usually every 4-6 weeks. I apply my granulars prior to watering or rainfall. I spray kelp at the end of a warm dry evening and don't water for an additional 24hrs. I would like to note though, that I have since learned and bought into the logic that liquid humic (and all other boosters for that matter) obsorb better and faster in liquid form. SC DOES have the best process, I just wasn't ALL IN on liquids until now. Probably going to finish out the granular product I have now and revert to SC's process he show's here.
