The assumption is all that goes away when the financial system fails (or the nukes fall, or ... or ... or ...). It's pretty damn unlikely, but would be a terrible outcome for everyone if it happened. I'm sort of glad we have preppers -- just in case -- but the best option for everyone is to work to ensure a more stable system, not to plan for the system failing.
