I think it's really great what you are doing! But I did that too and the "tweerie birds" (smaller birds) can still get thru the chicken wire & rats & mice can too. I ended up putting Hardware cloth (1/2" welded mesh) over the top of my chicken wire. I will end up taking it all off, removing the chicken wire & replacing it with only hardware cloth & repurpose for deer fencing for a new garden. This will at least make me "feel better" about the wasted time & money by not just using hardware cloth to begin with. My gutt told me to spend the extra money and start with HW cloth, but I didn't. I learned the hard way, I hope this helps others.

And common Flys. The usda wants to put it all on migratory birds because no one will get upset with canadian geese or cardinals.also I have never seen a Canada goose fly though a commercial bird building.flys however are all over those commercial sites, but to blame it on Flys would point to poor management or terrible living conditions and they wouldn't want to give those million bird caged egg factory owners a bad name.its ALL about protecting the big producer.

There is also a nasty rabbit virus moving across America that is very contagious. I think all animals have the potential to carry deadly viruses. Farmers have always accepted the risk. But, rabbits are easy and their waste does not burn plants up. It is an excellent fertilizer. But, rabbits also cannot be your sole meat source.

@@hisservants8003 nope. You are right. Best to keep at minimum chickens and rabbits. And make sure you have a natural fat source as well. Either avocados or nuts are great things to keep around.

I don't have coop, they sleep in a plexiglass like aquarium. Three walls and a roof to protect them from the wind and rain. No bugs in the coop either! That's why I decided to go plexi cause the mites love the dark and now they got know where to hide during the day. Plus these dinos use to sleep in trees so...

@etchman2242 жыл бұрын
I would highly recommend making a small coup/nesting box. Even portable if you wish? Chickens like the Security of being in the dark when sleeping. Not being able to see preditors, avoiding drafts, roosts (they poop when they sleep & it's all lined up for easy concentrated cleanup) and a safe place to lay. It is important to have low soft light because they don't see well at night to jump on roots. That's where you want them so they are not on the floor in the poop. I used a rope light and put some black tape in spots to make it not so bright. Rope lights are long and it looks nice around the perimeter too. It may or may not be bright enough to deter preditors but at least you can see better at night "just in case?". Great videos! Keep up the good work!

I hate to tell you but.. you are putting faith into a demand of end to all chicken farming in the majority. IF you get targeted with a PCR test, you will lose them all, period.
