The Cold War era was a breakthrough time for anti-aircraft warfare. AA weapon systems started utilizing radars and other sophisticated gadgets to become even more effective at hunting down aircraft. In War Thunder, SPAA vehicles of the era are mainly found at mid to high ranks of the Ground Forces tech tree; their main responsibility is to keep the sky clean of subsonic and early supersonic aircraft. Today we’re going to talk about the most interesting of the bunch.

RIP VEAK, you will be sorely missed. Kinda wish I could get my GE back for the talisman on it honestly, first it was put to rank 5 making it useless to grind with (swapped places with the leo 2 marksman), then it had its fuze rounds removed.. I was using that thing at 10.3 gaijin, since the other options are awful in comparison. Why would I want a fast turret that can aim up on an AA, right? .-.

If you are going to remove the VEAK's proxy fuze at least add the ACTUAL finnish ZSU-57, the ZSU-57-2M that used proxy fuze ammo. Add the T-55 Marksman which is the other ItPsV 90, put it at 8.7 and move the ItPsV 90 Leo 2 to 9.0+

The veak was the best spaa in his br, but they took away his best ammunition and now he became one of the worst. Taking away his grace was not the way to nerf him. Besides, it is still a spaa that is quite easy to destroy and does not have too much ammunition, so every shot counts.

In IRL the range of the Sgt York radar was limited to 10km by design, however it covered the full hemisphere unlike how it's currently modeled in War Thunder. It also featured a laser tracker that could track air and ground targets without radar input. The max range was about 8km instead of only 4km in WT.

idk what research you found, but proxy rounds for the L70 bofors were not created until the 70s, the VEAK was built in the 60s and never entered service, and was scrapped before the proxy rounds were made.

4:10 Yeah and that is why you gave it only full HE belt and the smallest apds belt in game which is btw a tier 4 mod. Also the HE for some reason auto detonates after 3km of flight so good luck dealing with even the most basic heli ATGMs.

Wait how do you guide adats missiles then? I don't have it yet I'm pretty close but if you can't guide them in gunners optics how do you even use them?

@@ThunDoom1116 it can guide them, as long as you're not trying to aim higher than 59 degrees. IRl the missiles have an 85 degree elevation, which was finally put in game for the american one last year. the gunner optic has a -5/+90 elevation so it can aim the 25mm and the missiles, in game it is locked to the 25mm and has a -5/+59, so anything above 59 degrees and you can't lock onto anything and have to use third person to aim the missiles, which obviously is not very easy cause any slight movements makes it so your missile flies all over the place due to the ATGM changes.

Those airburst 40mm on the M247 are pretty effective at downing aircraft, and those delay fuse 40mm are a real game changer when going up against tanks and armored vehicles. I've gotten some really expected kills on MBTs with those little guys.

the SAPHE is pretty bad ngl, I can't even pen MBTs from the side while all the 35mm guns can front pen the Abrams, its the only SPAA in that range to not have actual AP rounds even though its the second highest BR guns-only SPAA. the only higher gun-only SPAA is the OTOMATIC, which gets APFSDS that pens 300mm.

You know, the 8x8 with 120km off-road in wt, a tall search radar to see over the trees and a TV/IR guided optical tracking system lifted from the ADATS which means so long as you can see the target no need to even have the radar on, meaning no RWR ..... if you see any video for the Gepard ... you will see that HAS only 40shells for anti tank purpose... and is hard to reach them from the crew cause are stored on the outside of the vehicle ..... but why we dont leave the players play SPAA like antitanks... is historical accurate.. like the soviet armor and shells .. like the nerfed to death US tanks... and all those good sweet sugar thing.

Gaijin, quick and genuine question, why is it that gepard 1a2 and 2s6 tunguska are nearly identical weapon, purpose and size wise, even release date wise (1978 and 1980 respectively), yet their br's are so different? and if tunguska is more effective in its AA duties, wouldn't it get it's irl APDS rounds to compensate for lost ground perfomance?
