this was wonderful! obviously you have no obligation to go into this, it's just a suggestion, but the mentions of hecate in this video got me thinking. she's one of the deities i've felt drawn to the longest, but she can also be kind of difficult to get good information on, given that a lot of wiccans end up referring to her and stuff, and i'm sure that muddies things. i'd be over the moon if you did a video about her in a specifically hellenistic context! i do realize that's kind of specific though so no pressure obviously (;^ω^) thank you so much for your videos, they've been so incredibly helpful.

I'm Greek, and have been reading about Hellenism in Greece and abroad for the past week or so. I may be wrong here, but I think there is a glaring disconnect between the practitioners in Greece and those who live in, say, English-speaking countries. Sadly, there appears to be very little communication between the two groups, and the latter is much more open to bringing foreign concepts into the religion. I couldn't find any bilingual forums or websites, and so the vast majority of Hellenism ends up being represented by people who, as you admitted in a previous video, previously practiced religions like Wicca, which will unavoidably inform their Hellenism in subtle ways. I like your videos. Keep it up!
@FeltheBlithe
@FeltheBlithe 3 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree that there is a disconnect and lack of communication. There is so much misinformation as well, some that I hope to dispel. I think something to keep in mind is that Hellenism in the classical world was not a monolith but rather naturally syncretic and fluid and touched nearly every aspect of the western world. The way people practice Hellenism is America will inherently be different than someone born and raised in Greece, just because we are coming from a different cultural background and the natural and sociological world around us is different, too! This was reflected in the ancient world, as well. The way the Massalia colony in France practiced Hellenism was different from Athens and even the way Athens practiced Hellenism was different than Sparta, the way the Celtic Galatians practiced Hellenism was different than Ptolomaic Egypt. Pythagoras different than Socrates. Heck, even the way aristocrats practiced Hellenism looked radically different than the common rural folk! So I think some degree of difference is natural and healthy. That being said, I think many people rush into a new religion without understanding the context-that is what I'm hoping my videos will provide! (And that's why I made this video particularly, many people were confused on the differences in protection between Hellenism and modern witchcraft when one does not apply to the other) I think you have to have some basis of understanding of something in order to change it/before you introduce new ideas into it. Awareness, respect and a desire to learn are key. I hope all of that made sense, glad you are enjoying the videos and hope you continue to get something out of them😊

Any mention of magic or witchcraft in the same sentence as Hellenism is in itself offensive/hubris. regardless of perception towards worship it is widely documented that witchcraft is highly heretical, while Hellenism has very few rules Not practicing witchcraft is one of them "I follow cheerfully; and, did I not, Wicked and wretched, I must follow still Whoever yields properly to Fate, is deemed Wise among men, and knows the laws of heaven." - Euripides I'm a practicing Hellenist and I'm happy to see more people interested in our religion. Fel you're doing a great work!

It's mainly Americans, even I enjoy this lady's videos the majority of Americans that worship ancient religions become inauthentic due to them mixing the religion with other religions or idea. It's why I mainly stay away from American authors when it comes to ancient religions unless it's by an academic.

Where did you get your Lady Athena pendant? I have one in a similar style with imagery of Lord Hades and Lady Persephone on it that I got from the Getty Villa in Mailbu. Even before I started actively practicing Hellenism I was wearing it for protection without realizing. I had a really bad mental health episode and just felt the strongest pull to put it on and ive worn it every day since. It brings such a feeling of calmness and protection. You make great videos! Blessed be!

Can you tell us more about your jar for Zeus Ktesios? I’ve been doing a more traditional one that I clean out on the New Moon but it is pretty gross by then. Seems like yours would be less messy! Ingredients, type of jar, where you got that awesome snake? Thanks :)
@FeltheBlithe
@FeltheBlithe 3 жыл бұрын
The most important ingredient in the jar (not for any spiritual reason but for scientific) is wine and/or vinegar. The vinegar and/or wine will keep any bacteria or mold at bay so it should keep til the the next new moon. Next up the jar I used is one of those vacuum sealed jars (used to house juice and I got it from the grocery story), this also helps prevent any nasties from getting in. As for the snake, I got it from a thrift store probably almost 10 years ago at this point! So alas I cannot point you in that direction

@@FeltheBlithe thank you :) I had been using a mason jar which is a pain to open and close, and just olive oil and water with grains, nuts, herbs etc. So gross to empty out XD I’ll definitely be buying red vinegar and using wine as well when I redo everything tomorrow.
@FeltheBlithe
@FeltheBlithe 3 жыл бұрын
Best of luck! It can take some experimentation to get a ratio that works. If you get more grossness just keep adding more vinegar/wine and less water and it should be free from mold and other things

Hi! I just want to say I really enjoy your videos and find them useful! I wanted to suggest a video idea; in an earlier video you mentioned how as a revivalist you celebrate holidays which are not hellenic, such as the sabbats from the wiccan wheel of the year. I think it would be interested to discuss what they add to your practice, if you celebrate hellenic deities on these holidays and if you do, how. Thanks :)

Here's how to pronounce Agyieus the Greek way (yes, I'm Greek). In Greek, it's written like this: Αγυϊεύς and it sounds like :Ayiiēfs. Pretty weird, huh? Another piece of apotropaic (please correct my spelling if needed) jewelry is the snake shaped rings and bracelets. They were very popular here until, say, the last 20 years or so. Very cool jewelry!
