(Will add * to planned to grow fpr added savings) Main Ingredients (base) dry corn* Rolled oats A dried fruit* (raisin, mango, etc.) A crushed insect* (meal worms or crickets.) Added food sources a weekly feeding of homegrown leafy greens, beans, lettuce, spinach, kale, etc. If possible the monthly vegetable from my garden, pumpkin, carrot, or sweet potato. This is my intended quail feed. Opinions?

The game bird grower is great till they start laying then you will start getting soft shells. If you like the game bird feed high protein then consider calcium addition .You can up that by adding tums or rolaids in there water. My birds I changed to hen layer wich worked great but after awhile there plumage began to suffer ,dull looking. So now I mix it with the high protein that I used for growth and plumage . My birds must be southerners because they really like left over steamed rice and grits, when I gather my eggs if i find one with a crack or something,I go ahead and finish cracking it on top of there feed tray. They will almost fight to get it. Good show Coturnix Corner.

Yes, I start my birds on a 30% protein feed until they start laying, then I'll mix a layer formula to feed while they are in production. Part just means equal parts of each feed. Example: 1 cup, 1 gallon ect. You can feed starter when they are adults, but the starter is more expensive and they really don't need that much protein.

I don't recommend .mixing feed that way. It's not the same as feeding one feed that has the proper nutritional values some quail will eat some layer some will eat both and some will eat starter so the birds won't be getting the same ration You are much better off feeding a ration that has everything they need in one feed.Feed is very close to the most important thing when raising any Gamebird.I buy Quality feed so I have Quality birds and eggs and I charge my customers accordingly and have had no complaints. Not saying my way is the only way just know it's the right thing for my birds and my customers.
