I would urge anyone to stay away from products that are marketed as healthy, as they are often sold by the same manufacturers that produce endless other sweet treats. These companies would quite literally put anything in these products if they weren’t restricted by the FDA, all in the name of profit. Why promote these hyper processed foods to begin with, though? I found myself chuckling to myself at 6:22 as you tout the benefits of one of these bars while the horrid ingredient list is right next to it. Do you just ignore this and only look at macros while shopping? Ignorance is bliss When there’s so many tasty whole options, why subject yourself to this? It’s ok to think these taste good and try to explain them away by only looking at the macros, but we’re not high schoolers on our first bulking diets. I get it, I really do. Their marketing is great, the products taste good, and to some people that’s all that matters, but they really got you man.

I’m pretty sure I said in the video that protein bars aren’t “healthy” and are basically a substitute for candy bars. Also I mentioned that it’s way better to have Whole Foods and real sources of protein. My main point of the video is questioning the premise that protein bars are WORSE than candy bars like Dr. Berg claimed. I don’t believe I was touting benefits of the bar. I was examining the sugar content compared to the snickers bar based on his constant attacks on sugar. I’d be willing to bet he’s one of those people that’s also going to tell you that fruit is bad for you because it has sugar.

Finally!! someone calling out the absurdity of Dr. Berg’s claim Protein bars aren’t perfect, but to say they’re worse than candy bars is just ridiculous. Watching This video does a great job breaking down the numbers and showing how protein bars offer clear advantage , more protein, less fat, and often lower sugar when adjusted for size. Sure, they’re not whole foods, but they’re way better than grabbing a Snickers if you’re trying to hit your protein goals. Thanks for bringing logic and actual comparisons into this… dr bergs video on this is a clickbait…

Calories wise, yes it's like eating a candy bar and yes some do have more cals than candy. Macros wise, the best of em are like eating half a candy bar and a scoop of protein powder. If you are trying to lose weight like me, I actually agree with him, treat it like a candy bar. They are a calorie dense food with the only plus being ok protein. Most of these have the same cals as two cans of soda, just to put it into perspective. Also, it's not really a supplement, it's food. I do eat a barebell every day though, I have a candy problem. Grandpa use to say "starting today, no more cookies, candies, cake or pie". Lets just say sweet tooth runs in my family, both sides too lol.
@CamberFitness9 күн бұрын
I don’t really consider protein bars being a calorie dense food. It’s a snack that’s usually between 200-300 calories with at least 20g of protein. Calorie dense would like a scoop of peanut butter that is the same calories, has less than 10g of protein, and doesn’t really make you feel any less hungry.
@i5usko8 күн бұрын
@@CamberFitness Well it's not as dense as that but it's certainly more dense than most whole foods.

Of course. 👍 Whenever you compare packaged bars to real lean foods, they’ll always fall short.

Every KZbinr uses clickbait titles to get views. I think his real point is that they aren't nearly as healthy as they may claim and is trying to make people aware of it.
@CamberFitnessАй бұрын
There’s a big difference between clickbait to get attention and a complete lie with the title. He could have just as easily said something like protein bars are just as unhealthy as candy bars. But his own metrics of what makes protein bars “bad” also make them quite a bit better than candy bars.
@closinginonclosure2 ай бұрын
I also find it a bit shady that he chose some of the worst "protein bars" available. There's a reason that most of the worst protein bars are also the ones sold at most gas stations. The macros aren't as good, and they are closer to candy that a lot of other bars. They target the market of people who typically eat so poorly, that to them it is a healthy choice. It's close enough to candy that people with taste buds accustomed to candy, they can enjoy it without it being too far away from what they're used to. If that makes sense? And if you're normally eating actual candy, it's still a better alternative. There are protein bars out there that have far better macros than the ones he chose in the video. I feel like he very intentionally avoided those options, because he has a particular agenda he wants to push. It's slimy behavior.
@CamberFitness2 ай бұрын
Exactly! 👏 But unfortunately millions of people fall for his tactics.
@closinginonclosure14 күн бұрын
@CamberFitness Someone viewing your video, doesn't mean they're "falling" for anything, or buying what you say. You also have to consider different types of people. There are definitely a lot of people who know absolutely nothing about health and fitness,and find their entry level somewhere. Also remember that numbers aren't indicative of quality of product. Sometimes numbers are indicative of other things. Look at McDonald's. It's absolute trash, and I'd imagine is at the very top of the list of meals served per day to people. But, whatever attempt at self pacification and condescension you have to spew to make you feel better about your "content".
@CamberFitness13 күн бұрын
Based on the comments I read on his video, I would say many do “fall” for it because I saw A LOT of comments with things like, “now I won’t feel bad about eating candy bars”…
@notthesamecc19274 ай бұрын
i kind of agree. dr berg is pretty good but i think you are correct that p bars used as an alternative to a regular bar is a good thing. He is a Keto dr mainly. supplements are supplements and snacks are snacks and they should not be considered replacements to real food and meals. they can serve a purpose in transitioning from junk to good food because they never relaly taste like the real deal so once you get used to that flavour, moving towards other flavors is not as hard. the eat to live rather than live to eat can more easily be adopted.
@CamberFitness4 ай бұрын
Some good points for sure. One thing I don’t like is the “eat to live” mentality. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying food and having things that are really tasty while not being the healthiest option. It’s simply about moderation.

Better than getting diabetes from candy bars dr berg
@renliu354 ай бұрын
While Berg is hyperbolic in his claim that protein bars are worse than candy bars, my takeaways are: 1. Protein bars are marketed as healthy, but they are at best, semi-healthy and it's mostly because of the protein in it. 2. Energy bars like cliff bars are typically seen by the average consumer as "healthy" as compared to a candy bar. However, the macros are very similar,(snickers have more fat and less fiber) and both are ultra processed foods. At the end of the day, the marketing behind cliff bars is enough to fool people to eat a cliff bar or two a day but that same population would scoff at the idea of eating 1-2 snickers bar a day because it's unhealthy. I know people like this. 3. Everyone should minimize ultra processed foods. Protein bars are no exception.
@CamberFitness4 ай бұрын
For sure! Like I said in the video. Protein bars aren’t “healthy”, but they are a better alternative to a candy bar for something like a dessert or snack on the go. However, I still don’t get why he would add a cliff bar into the mix when the video is about protein bars. Cliff bars aren’t even marketing as protein bars.

Its hard to beat musashi hi protein bars. 90g bar, 45g protein, 5.4g fat, 5.2g carb, 4.3g fibre, 172mg sodium, 14.3g glycerol & 3.9g erythritol. & 309 cal. Pretty good 👌💪

Dr. Berg is an absolute joke. I stopped watching his stuff a long time ago. The ONLY thing I agree with him on this is the GI issues, at least for me. One bar usually give me some pretty epic gas within the next 12 hours. So, I do try to only use them when I need to. I'll eat jerky or meat sticks if I need a snack with protein.

@play4dc4 ай бұрын
Must. not. Rage. 1.Complex carbohydrates don't raise your glycemic index at the same rate as simple sugars and keep you full for longer (this guy probably claims potatoes are candy) 2. claiming some proteins are better than others is reductive, proteins = amino acids.... loads of research claiming soy protein is good for you. (The only thing I can think is he's claiming it's not a complete protein like quinoa.... which is over 50% starch which he has decided is bad) 3. There's loads of research on sweeteners.... telling people they're bad when diabetes is an epidemic is stupid. 4. Like you say these are *healthier* alternatives. Maybe encourage people to start by making simple swaps to lower fat dairy and lower sugar treats and don't tell them lettuce leaves and wheatgrass shots (with endless suffering) are the way to health.... 🙄
