I had lost 75 lbs on keto several years ago, plateaued for close to 2 years! I admit by the end of trying, i ate more ans more fat bombs etc, very discouraged! Gained almost all my weight back,ugh i decided to try again and came across you Maria and psmf! I dont know how i never heard of it before! I read all the time on keto, anyways,it has changed my life! 7 mths and lost 62 lbs! I am 69 years old and struggled my whole life… i knew i had to get this weight off,(for all the obvious reasons) as i am taking care of my husband for 6 yrs with stage 4 cancer… i have wanted to take the keto courses, in a while, as i am constantly asked questions on how too’s! I am still trying to get this right right now. I think my biggest problem now is….I struggle to ever get my protein even close to what its supposed to be. Great reminder video on this topic when eating high fat is being pushed to the extreme. That doesn't work for everyone. We are all individual and unique in our needs. We have to find what works for us. PSMF really is a great "tool" when properly used. Thank You!

Pushing high fat doesn't really work for anyone. Calories still matter. And more fat means less protein which means more likelihood of losing lean mass, less vitamins and minerals, etc. :)

11:44 🧈 Yes!! 😂 The stick of butter felt unnatural to me, but my energy was so low on carnivore that I finally decided to try it. Well, I _quickly_ gained about ten pounds, stopped the butter despite being told the weight gain is normal because my body is healing, and months later, I have yet to get those pounds off. I’ve been scared of going low calorie, but I think it would be wise to get these pounds off before I go into menopause, which is around the corner, so PSMF it is! I love that you can lose weight but hold onto muscle mass, as that is extremely important to me at this time of my life! So thankful for you, Maria and Craig! ❤❤

I was hesitant to go low calorie, but I’m going to try some PSMF. I’m so glad just going back to a normal diet with high protein got the weight off for you!! My problem may also be that I’m mid 40s, so I may just need something more drastic. Anyway, thank you for the update!! 😀

Today your husband taught me how much protein I need in a day, 4 meals 24 G protein per meal. 20 or under 20 carbs a day. I can’t do fasting. I get shaky but I can control my protein and low carbs. The fat I get is in my meat . Sometime the keto Mayo I make . I’m 25 lbs I can’t lose.

The only thing I don’t like about keto is having to force myself to drink butter coffee and add fat to everything. I’ve only been keto for a week now and lost about 5lbs of water weight, but I know eating this much fat won’t make me lose fat. My body has plenty of fat to burn through on its own! I definitely think a more carnivore style/lower fat diet will fit me much better. I have about 30-40 extra pounds to burn through. Thank you so much! TY having diverticulitis surgery - fat goes right through me .. glad you explained this more - I got more chicken breasts this month - and pulled skin off 1/2 thighs.. also pork lion - meat so expensive now !! anyway trying lower plain 3 days a week - and reg low carb-med fat -protein .. got 2 boxes of egg whites mostly for bread and made your jelly excellent !!

I'm 130 pounds and have fatty liver because I found out I have a very low personal fat threshold. 120 pounds would be my bare minimum weight. Even though I only have 10 pounds to spare, I have no issue eating PSMF every day. I've been doing this for more than a month. 3 years ago I was only able to handle 50-60 grams of protein a day and I ate 200 grams of fat. While protein sparing, I have gone through 3 significant breakthroughs where I have been able to handle more protein with good glucose. It started at 50g, then I was able to eat 100g, and now I can eat 150g. It always seemed that the more protein I eat and the less fat I eat, the faster my progress.

Thank you, you laid out the nuance that some others are trying to explain, but you do very well. You have allowed me to put together some of the points that I understood, but had to weave them together to get the bigger picture, especially about insulin. I got it that insulin regulated energy, both fat and sugar, and I knew it wasn't the enemy, but I now understand the protein role and why there is a period where it might seem worse, but we have to go through it to get better with diabetes and why it is not just letting the body heal, but driving the cycles work correctly to adjust back to normal. 💪

The biggest issue is that it's dairy. We tell all our clients that if weight loss is the goal, avoid 100% of dairy. :)

Dairy tends to be inflammatory for a lot of people, so that may be a part of it. I know eliminating cheese and cream will be hard for me because I'm so used to leaning on those for fat fasts and egg fasts. I do have some whey isolate that I need to use, so I'm not going to run out and buy egg protein powder just yet.

@@doesnotFempute when you do get egg white powder, you will have to try Maria's protein sparing bread! (I add a few yolks back in before i bake it because if it is all egg whites, it almost chokes you but the yolks add much needed moisture). It will be hard to give up those dairy products but there are subs like nutritional yeast and coconut cream or even almond cream (you can make it with almonds and water) that work! Maria's recipes are simply the BEST ;)

Do you have information on help with cancer patients? My dad has esophageal cancer, has had since 2020, and by the grace of God, he's still with us, but he's lost so much weight because he can't eat much. When he was first diagnosed I told him to cut out sugar because it feeds cancer, and he did for awhile, but now refined foods are really all he can stomach, literally. Though last week I made Philly cheesesteak bowls, and he was able to eat some of the shredded meat. I kind of wonder if he should stick to ground up meats and fats. But he doesn't want to hear it from me, I'm sure.

Would protein sparing help post-menopausal with hypothyroid? I have 100+ lbs to lose. I lost 40 lbs on keto years ago, but it was soooo slow losing the weight (even though I needed to lose 70 lbs. It was very discouraging).. Then we moved and other stressors, and I gained back the weight. Then my husband died suddenly a year ago, and I gained 30 lbs beyond that. I’m finally at a place emotionally to take care of myself and lose weight, but I want to do it efficiently and healthfully. Just not sure if PSMF would be good in my situation. BTW, I love your recipes.

how do we know how much fat is in a ribeye or where do we get the fat from if we are eating low fat meats?

There is no need to add extra fat on PSMF days. They are fasting days designed to maintain lean mass (better than water fasts where you consume nothing). Use Cronometer for macros. Ribeye will have different fat content depending on the cut (some are fattier than others) so using an app like Cronometer will give you the best average :)

That is completely individualistic. Fasting is a tool people can use to limit their eating window, reduce snacking and accelerate weight loss. For PSMF it is mean to do no more than 0-3 days per week while significant weight loss is desired. Those days can be consecutive or alternating. I have been following & loving many of your recipes & concepts for a few years now. ❤👏🏼 Respectfully, I don’t know anyone who recommends a whole stick of butter on top of a steak or in a coffee, I think you are exaggerating. Yes, sometimes adding a small amount of bacon grease or a tablespoonful of butter is necessary to the ground meat that I can get & afford… for flavor. I cannot tolerate lots of grease. 🤷🏻♀️ I do feel better eating more protein than SAD. 👍🏼 I’ve had a long long healing journey from undiagnosed Celiac for about 25+ years. Elimination diets, AIP, Mediterranean, Keto, Carnivore, Ketovore, I have tried just about everything. 😮😂 My small intestine is just now starting to grow villi, 5+ years after diagnosis, now at almost age 61! 👏🏼🙌🏼 So I have lived malnourished most of my life & doctors could never look for the root cause. 😡😑 I am so grateful for social media & people like you! 🙌🏼 The pandemic changed how we live. Not exaggerating. We have clients come to us all the time sick and not getting the results they want because of bad advice such as "eat more butter" or "eat a whole stick of butter" or "eat fatty meat until you are stuffed" and "you don't need to count macros" etc.

Would psmf be okay for weight maintenance. Meaning throwing in a day once in a while to balance out calories? Or would it be better to still do a lower calorie day but keto macros? I end up always having one higher calorie day a week so trying to figure out best way to balance out.

It is a weight loss tool so isn't really for maintenance. You can do a lower fat/calorie day occasionally if you like, but I wouldn't do really low like a PSMF day. But I do believe in prioritizing protein in maintenance as well. :)

Is it bc once you’ve lost the desired weight if you do psmf you don’t have body fat to tap into and thus may end up converting the protein for energy? I mean we all have some body fat so perhaps this isn’t even an issue? I’m just curious as I do find it works well for me to do one a week to balance out the higher calorie day.

As stupid as it is and no matter how many of your videos I watch and finally think I understand I still fear gluconeogenesis as I am on the lean side. I absolutely love the way keto makes me feel so want to stay in ketosis and so do try and balance the macros to 65 fat and 30 protein on the keto days. But I can easily just eat protein with minimal fat but again is that okay? I don’t have a problem getting high protein with all your yummy recipes. It’s almost a question of how do you not get to the protein!? Lastly I easily notice now that when I do over eat veggies (again complex carbs like one day have more zuccini and cauliflower) I feel off.

PSMF days are very low energy days. Low carbs and fat. If you don't have a lot of stored body fat to tap into, the body will struggle a bit to fuel you if you do a PSMF day. :)

Sounds great! Watch the ingredients in store bought "low carb" and "keto" products. They are almost always loaded with terrible ingredients and also aren't really low carb because they are subtracting fiber. For best results count total carbs :)

Because your body NEEDS healthy fats for nutrient absorption, hormones, etc. Fat is an essential nutrient. So we cannot just completely eliminate it.

So please just clarify, if I did do it daily as suggested for my macros on the site, would it be bad for fatloss? I mean, if I did protein sparing macros for a month on end, will it be bad for me? I have 20kgs to loose. The macros calculater on your site for my measurements says I need to do 125g protein. Oh, and I'm following carnivore diet

Do not do more than 3 PSMF days per week. PSMF is fasting, ie you're not taking in a lot of energy. Your body NEEDS fat and calories for healthy hormones and nutrient absorption. Additionally, eating that low of macros for a month on end would lead to metabolic adaptation. Do not do that 🙏

I guess after listening I didn’t quite understand what Protein Sparing is? Is it eating the leanest meats like chicken & egg whites with little fat 3 times a week? And did I hear 600 calories a day during that protocol? And do you exercise on those days? I hike a lot so that just seem like it’d give me enough energy? 🌸

It is a method of fasting where you eat plenty of lean protein, very low carb very low fat. It is only meant for accelerating weight loss and should only be done 1-3 days max per week. They are low energy days, so it is up to you whether you work out on those days or not.

I am 5 ft tall. I used the macro calculator and the results were on PSMF days my total cal was 722 F 30 P 103 carb 10. On regular Keto days the max cal was 1013 F 69 P 87 carbs 10. My goal is 15 lb weight loss. The total cal just seamed so low. I am sedentary. Is this correct? Thanks

With only 15 pounds to lose I do not recommend PSMF. And for your height 85-90g of protein daily is a good goal. For best results, you want to keep your daily fat intake about 20g lower than your protein goal, so for weight loss I would recommend you keep your daily fat intake around 65-70g. Carbs should always be limited to 20g total or less per day. Calories will naturally fall in line when you follow these recommendations for fat loss :) I also recommend incorporating resistance training to build lean mass as you lose unwanted fat off the body💪

Hello! What are the best sources to get 30 grams of the fat needed? I have all the ebooks ans am thinking about signing up for the menu planner to help meet macros. I will admit, i get stressed tracking and have a hard time meeting macros. I especially have a hard time when making a recipe, measuring and weighing everything.your calculator says my cal for psmf is 758 and regular keto days are 1168. Is it safe to stay under 1200 cals on regular days?

First you need to make sure your macros are accurate. Make sure to read the notes at the top of the free calculator tool before you enter in your measurements. For a typical female 5ft tall, you need at LEAST 80g protein per day. Add 5g of protein to every inch over 5ft. So if you are a 5ft 3in woman, your daily protein goal should be at LEAST 95g (you can go over your protein goal as long as you do not exceed your other macro limits which are carbs, fat, calories). On PSMF you do not need to add additional fat. The fat in the protein you consume is sufficient--just keep it under 30g per day. Remember that protein is your only macro goal to meet or exceed--all other macros are LIMITS :) You've got this! 💪

Also, on non psmf days, it's safe to eat under 1200 cals? I weigh 164 and the calculator said to eat 1164 cals regular days.

For your height you only need around 105-110g protein daily, but it is okay to go over that amount as long as your other macro limits (fat, carbs) are not exceeded. Protein is your only goal; all other macros are limits. So yes, You can have under 1,200 calories per day at your height for weight loss.

I’ve been watching your videos lately and I’m confused about your use of allulose. You have warned about using “net carb” values, but allulose has about 4 grams of total carbohydrates per teaspoon. Are the carbs canceled because it does not affect blood sugar? I never trust a claim like that and don’t want to waste money buying something that I won’t end up being able use. And if the carbs are insignificant in allulose, is that true of all sugar replacements that do not affect blood sugar? I have used pure stevia powder for ages, but it does not provide bulk that make some recipes successful. I’d like to try your sweet variations of PSMF bread, but is it still protein sparing when it contains allulose?

I have stated many times that you can subtract the carbs from erythritol and allulose. That is because they are both TRULY zero glycemic. They pass through the system undigested, so those carbs can be subtracted. All other carbs count :)

I’ve heard conflicting information about the impact these sugar alcohols have on blood glucose and on insulin. I just started watching your channel again after a few years away. I will be watching and rewatching more in the coming days. I appreciate hearing that eating below my BMR will not wreck me if I eat enough protein. I instinctively knew that but let the wrong people get in my head. There’s a certain desperation to do the “right” thing when handed a traumatic dx, and anxiety can make it hard to shut off the noise from well meaning people. You and your husband are a calming presence.

Is PSMF and keto okay for someone with a hypothyroid? I had read in the past going too low in carbs could damage the thyroid more. I need to lose at least 130 pounds. I have PCOS as well and I know it’s good for that but damaging the thyroid more worries me. I’m also afraid of hair loss (which I know can happen from weight loss anyways no matter how you do it) because my hair is so thin already.
