Protestors, bailiffs clash during Detroit eviction

A Detroit woman claims she is being evicted as retaliation. When bailiffs showed up at her home to evict her Tuesday, protestors were there and clashes broke out as they tried to stop it from happening.

Rental companies in Detroit don't do background checks on prior places folks lived at? I'm sorry but I'm not buying she has Stage 6 Kidney Disease either. Bih it only goes to Stage 5. Stage 4 means your kidneys are operating at less than 15%. And Stage 5 is game over. I knew she was lying about the kidney disease when she was talking to the news crew. I see a lot of people saying she didn't pay her rent but.... In another news report, the tv news channel reported that Brown had not missed any rent payments on the tiny house. And she was NOT being evicted for non-payment of rent. The reason the social service agency was evicting her was because she was in violation of her lease contract where she must live in the house at least 50% of the time. The agency was claiming she did not live there enough and their proof was because 2 years she signed a lease at another address in Detroit. They believed she was trying to lease this property for the minimum 7 years in their rent-to-own program then she would start leasing it out as an income property while she maintained a residence somewhere else. Don't people know that a landlord can evict you for more reasons than not paying rent. Also, one way landlord can get you out is that when you go to pay the rent, they reject the payment. Therefore, the can claim you did not pay which is technically true.

This is just a guess. Taura Brown wasn’t completely sure of her then boyfriend when she decided to rent the tiny house. It was insurance for that day she suspected might come when she would be on her own. That day came and then she became ill so she had no choice to live in the Tiny House full time. It sounds like her name on another lease was a technicality so that the boyfriend wouldn’t get in trouble. The main reason to evict a person is because they are causing chaos and/or danger to neighbors which judging from the support from the community seems doubtful. Sometimes the police have to just say no instead of creating this riot. If she is such a terrible tenant arrest her when she is out and about.

Detroit 36th district court will always evict on non payment rent…. if there are other circumstances like repairs that are not being made, then it is up to the tenant to call department of inspections and appeal the eviction through the higher court about the 36th district so that the rent can be put into escrow until repairs are made or if no repairs are made there is money in escrow so you can move…. Otherwise there is no recourse if you do not pay rent

In this instance the tenant already has a lease elsewhere and is not using this property as her primary dwelling. She has been breaking her lease obligations. Stop with the asinine comments.
