A video of WAP1 locomotive being started and energised, and then departing with a beautiful classic horn. The train was 14235 Varanasi - Bareilly Express which was short terminated at Ayodhya Cantt.
About the WAP1:
The Indian locomotive WAP1 is a class of 25 kV AC electric locomotives that were developed in 1980 by Chittaranjan Locomotive Works for Indian Railways. The model name stands for broad gauge (W), AC Current (A), Passenger traffic (P) locomotive, 1st generation (1). They entered service in late 1981. A total of 65 WAP1 were built at CLW between 1980 and 1996, which made them the most numerous class of mainline electric passenger locomotive until its successor, the WAP4.
The WAP1 is the first dedicated electric passenger locomotive of Indian Railways serving passenger trains for over 42 years. This class provided the basic design for a number of other locomotives like WAP3 and WAP4 models. However, with the advent of new 3-phase locomotives like WAP5 and WAP7, the WAP1 locomotives were relegated to hauling smaller express and passenger trains and now the aging fleet the WAP1 locomotives are being slowly withdrawn from mainline duties and scrapped.

This Erode WAP1 is my most and best favourite electric locomotive of India and it's the electric king of Indian railways. I recommend such awesome electric train engines like WAP4 and WAP1 for all the express and passenger trains in India whose routes are fully electrified. WAP1 definitely suits best for rajdhani express and all other red coloured LHB coach trains.

This one was previously with Tughlakabad shed and now transferred to Arambad i.e. Lucknow. In India only Tughlakabad and Arakonam sheds are holding WAP1 locos. thank you for this chocolate beau P1
