Proton Iriz 2022 Genting Hill Climb / It's Dry This time & All the Way, But Dark / YS Khong Driving

At last we managed to get the facelifted Proton Iriz for a Genting Run. Mechanically it is the same, but they have re-tuned the CVT for better drivability.
Our last test of the Iriz was quite a while ago, and it was in the wet, but now we get a chance to see how it behaves in the dry, and this time we bring it all the way to the top of the mountain.
The Active variant was what we drove, and it comes with red seatbelts, and some claddings along the side to give it the 'cross' look.

This is where the iriz active shines...cornering roads good handling..even YS Khong says it.. the iriz active is way quiter cabin than its rivals.. iriz active LED headlight are super bright based on video

Finally there is a night/ dusk version and so much contrast from many video that Uncle Khong did before as mostly daylight clear skies or rainy. Night or dusk is always one challenging time to drive due to limited available light. Fun and awesome one !

im persona user and thinking about getting iriz as 2nd car. People always complaint about the noise, but its actually convenient for me. I know I need to see foreman whenever the noise sound different from usual. Yeah... Proton handling is the best at corner. I enjoy speeding up at corner and one hand is enough. I thinking on buying ativa, but after test drive it... I dont feel ativa can give me better driving exp than my old persona.

Just to share they have junk the previous silverstone stock tires to goodyear assurance triple max 2. This may help alot in handling side due better tires The disadvantage for the given tire size 185/55 r16 is that it is on odd side and they are not many choice for someone who want to keep it stock in order to retain warranty. Eg Primacy 4 and Pilot Sport 4 does not come in this size. The closest you can get is xm2+ which is more like eco tires. If i remember correctly Toyo TR1 do come in this size for a performance tires but I am not sure if they perform better than Mich especially on wet weather. Also i Just can’t understand why they don’t want to put led lights on executive version. I am complaining cos I actually booked executive version as i can’t swallow the cladding and the high price that only give more on accessories/kit/hi proton than the exe version while adding nothing more mechanically. I felt they may have miss the boat and sweet middle spot by omitting the led lights on executive version. Otherwise i have no complain👍🏻

I am sorry they cannot give you the spec you want. Actually I am waiting for the next level in car selling when you can actually spec what you want in the car. There is a small problem though - there is a price application that the car makers have to submit, so this may have to be specked as another variant, and sometimes it is not worth the trouble. Maybe it is better to buy the lights as a spare a and fit it yourself.

@@YSKhongDriving this car customisation spec thing is very normal overseas. I guess what you mentioned is a Malaysia only thing due to tax system on auto industry. I guess no choice to self change once warranty is lapse. Just hope back end does not need much customisation when convert from stock Halogen to brighter lights Thanks for the drive, i look forward to drive one myself and experience proton ride and handling. Hope the build quality will last 😅😅

@Matt92 from my chat with proton service (not sales guy) as long it is within the specified spec as per warranty/guide book you are fine. If you change to 205 tires for example that are not found in any iriz then you are out of luck 😣

Mr Khong, could you please review and climb genting hill test with Toyota raize 1.2G if it is ok for you. I am considering to choose between either Raize or Xpander just for a couple. If the raize is power enough for city and highway (hill) for once in a while, I would preper for Toyota raize.

The two are tuned very differently, but the Ativa has more torque so will have less struggle up the hill. Ultimately it is about the available power

On the hill climb driven hard, all cars will consume a lot of fuel. We never note how much, but usually it will drain at least a quarter tank. The most economical would be a hybrid.
