建议对Proton的历史更有兴趣的人可以去读一读 Joe Studwell 的 《How Asia Works: Success and Failures in the World's Most Dynamic Region》。里面有着对Proton相当深入的研究和相当到位的批判,作者同时也解释对比了当时也是刚发家,也是和Mitsubishi合作的韩国 Hyundai 为什么最终会比 Proton 成功这么多

Actually perodua is also not national Brand cause they rebadge from the daihatsu n Toyota. At least current proton saga, waja, persona , iriz was not rebadge. The decline also due to Japanese b segment
I'm car newbie. I feel why people like to debate this topic. To me, price and offering spec more important when buying car. Branding belong to who and debate it is kinda silly, why not use the time earn more money, buy your desired car

The other brand you mentioned may have the same shareholder but they originally had their own engine and model just integration to made it better. Proton on the other hand, started with so much funding, so much protection and ended up a rebadge Geetly car. I don't know why so many car review blogger is so excited with X50, I think Proton wasted our taxpayer money and the opportunity to be something Malaysian can be proud of. Their ego and bad management landed the company to what is it today and the only people to blame is the previous management. They are suppose to use expertise from mitsubishi and the technology of lotus to create a real Malaysian car but ended up a big failure.

Malaysian always relate business with patriotism..thats why we always failed because we ourself not capable of doing it. In business top and bottom line is the heart of a business. Whats the point of having a national company that dint perform for nearly 3 decades.
Some perspective not mention here. What is the local content percentage for the Proton new model? How much involvement of local R&D for Proton new model? It is an important factor to gauge the 'national' level of the carmaker as it had binding impact for local economy. If Proton is doing rebadge model with minimum local content or R&D, next question, is UMW Toyota (main shareholder UMW owned by PNB) or Tan Chong Motor aka Nissan consider a National Car?

This is the early stages. The earliest Proton Saga has very low local content but after several years the local content had increased significantly. I believe the Geely cars will go through the same process. Preferably, the content is not limited to just trimmings and low tech content. I hope one day in the future there will be a 100% locally produced Proton car.

其實這個道理就等於... Perodua 裡有 Daihatsu 的股份而 Daihatsu 卻屬於 Toyota 所以我買 Perodua就等於買了 Toyota 的產品了, 一切純屬自己的意淫 syok sendiri 而已
