In Jason's defense, according to an official wallpaper made by Inti, Eve is not only a fully autonomous, sapient android, she can also eat, and in the sequel, drink. She's one step away from being an artificial human that's not a clone. Although Sophia is a magic physics-destroying tank, so take your pick which you think is more technologically impressive. Also, the wallpaper has more hilarious nods to the NES game.

It's obvious they would, but I'm so glad to know they tied wall to a button you hold down. In Metafight, wall 2 is automatic, which makes small platforms extremely irritating to work around because it's so easy to move just far forward enough to start clinging to the side, which causes you to jump sideways instead of up, often flinging you into death pits in later areas. Metafight really needed more buttons.

Fred was design to blend in with the surroundings and act like a living creature. I guess Jason won't rip open a frog or check its insides with a electronic scan see that it's a robot. Seems to me we could just assume that Fred is an animal and not an android at first glance. Jason probably didn't have the time to investigate more on Fred after he escaped since that DID happened.

The flamethrower being able to interact with the environment, *and* the game actually remembering it are quite good touches that it would have been nice for a bunch of "old" games (or even new games) to do. Oh well. Either way, the minute of laughter from using the sub-weapon around 37:00 was rather amusing. It's rare that a sub-weapon basically one-shots a boss unless that boss is meant to be a joke, much less a late-game boss.

Oooo the ice area. Not gonna lie, for an ice world, I quite like it. It has a fun gimmick to me with freezing over the place to create a pathway from one area to the other. One of the standout places when i played through this game a week ago. Though man, if I ever want to go back to blaster master zero, its gonna be weird after playing through 2. (Or at least, halfway through so far.) Makes me appreciate 1 even more as setting groundwork for them to show they can do something with this series, and 2 actually showing so far what they'll do with and where they'll take the series. Hope maybe at some point you'll do Blaster Master Zero 2 when 1 is done, cause it feels like they somehow took something great and took it all into their own hands and are taking it somewhere fantastic.

So for the curious. In the Blaster Master book. Jason's pet frog falls down a giany hole. Jason goes after him and nearly gets run over by Eve in Sophia 3. Eve is an alien here to stop another alien that destroyed her world. Jason and Eve travel together for a bit. Then Jason returns from beating a boss and Eve is unresponsive and driving Sophie towards a giant spike filled pit. Jason tells her to hit the jump button, but his hand passes right through her. So Jason bails and Sophia is lost. He then runs into another kid there looking for his pet Lizard. Same story as Fred the Frog. The travel down like 20 - 30 levels then Jason or his friend gets all "NO! THAT BOSS WE JUST KILLED WAS MY PET! I'M SO HEARTBROKEN!" "Get ahold of yourself! You know that giant animal we destroyed like 10 levels ago was my pet! So I know how you feel!" They continue on and reach the bottom. Find Eve and Sophia and beat the boss. Then find that both their pets are a-ok and they're happy. End of story. And I've no clue how close that story even is to the actual plot of Blaster Master Zero or Blaster Master 1.

The more I watch the more I'm realizing how much I missed playing through this game as Shantae. Not just in the story being missing, but also gameplay mechanics. Being familiar with the power level loss on hit mechanic in Blaster Master, I was just happy to play a character that didn't have weapons to lose. Meanwhile Inti Creates had all these neat extra mechanics in Zero that I had no idea about.

In the original game, every zone and top-down zone is a huge square (128x128 tiles, 8x8 screens) with vertical and horizontal wrapping. Some zones, this doesn't matter, but the castle, technology, ice, and lava zones all have significant shortcuts after you beat the boss that only work via looping, and the ice zone has a loop that brings you back to the beginning if you fall off a platforming section. There's also a looping corridor in the top-down section of the bio zone.

45:48 You mentioned the Area 2 boss was reused for Area 5 in this game :P There's one gripe I have with Wall 2 in the original game - once you get it, you can't just ride off corners as Sophia will automatically cling on the cliffside instead. I love the option of having another button in order to have the option to do so, because navigating through Area 8 was such a pain because of this. 55:06 The walls are indeed lined with spikes. The safe area in the walls is exactly 1 tile wide, so the game really wants you to use Wall 2 to squeeze through, since damage boosting through all the spikes (3 sets!) would kill you.

Something I would have kinda liked is a level cap for your gun until you get an upgrade for it. Being able to use Wave at the start of the game is kinda silly, so a cap would force you to experiment with your other weapons and get familiar with how they work. Destroyer Mode kinda does this but it's so overturned it's like, your level 1 shot is the only tool you can use for most of it.

Bought this game after watching the first 2 episodes and after catching up have been playing each week the day before these episodes came out. Played through area 6 yesterday and using the Sophia Cannon on Deep Freeze was so damn satisfying especially because one of the shuriken enemies on screen dropped a sub-weapon refill allowing me to immediately fire it off again to kill the surviving domes. So satisfying and so damn funny how fast that boss went down.

In the original game i swear to god the boss is impossible w/o the pause glitch. The spitwads it fires from its claws is so fast and seemingly random and hits so hard that i've never, no matter how hard i try, been able to beat the bastard without pauseglitching. Even just sitting at a distance and cheesing with Wave Beam, eventually i get tagged since those spitwads move so fast.

Believe it or not, you can get through that secret area with Spark Tackle, judiciously aimed. I managed it, anyway. Wasn't pretty, but was way better than just brute forcing it. Bravo having the Cannon Shot first. Funny story, I got the Wall Upgrade before I got Cannon Shot. So I got down by going over to the wall, sticking to it, and then firing "straight" which had become "down". Also, bravo on pointing out the Easter egg. Thanks for that. ALSO also, on your backtracking trek, Eve and Jason exchange more story elements in each new era if you check in with her.
