Okay, fine. I'll tell you about Booster. Booster is a strange man, who if not for his late arrival, would have been considered something of a proto-Wario. He's a man with scraggily facial features and is not considered a looker. His hobbies include LARP and beetle collection. Strange for an inhabitant of the Mushroom Kingdom, Booster appears to have a dynasty, a large tower by himself, & emotional stunting; given he cannot understand what crying is. Later in Mario's Adventure, he appears to have gotten himself rather a pretty woman in Valentina. His current status within the overarching mythos or Mushroom Kingdom is largely unknown.

On the topic of amnesia, both my best friend's mother (who treated/viewed me as her second son) and my current girlfriend have suffered from amnesia. The latter even suffered from it WHILE we were dating and temporarily forgot about our relationship. Between my partner and my close friendship with my friend's mother, I've dealt with amnesia a few times, and yes, it's best to not try to force memories. At most, give gentle reminders like "This is Todd. He's your dad." but don't try to coax out specific memories. With me and my girl, she still felt devotion to me, but as a close friend, not a lover. So it was...rough. But I stuck with her through it and never tried to tease anything out. I let her know our relationship, but never tried to pull out specific memories and let her have time to just cope. Eventually, everything came back to her, but on her own time. Although, with the mother it was kind of easy lol She forgot many of her own family members, yet remembered me clearly. I remember visiting her after the accident and her family said they hadn't seen her smile like that in a week. Having me around cheered her up, which seemed to help other things fall into place more easily as she relaxed.

It's unusually refreshing to see someone who knows what the actual condition is like as opposed to hollywood nonsense used as a convenient plot device. I suffered from a very severe case of amnesia myself many years back... my sister (who was always my caretaker) never skipped a beat, she never tried to force anything on the vulnerable me who was confused and suddenly helpless. She focused more on making new memories with me, almost as if nothing happened, instead of trying to fish for old ones; if they came back (some did, but... not as many as I wish... but I'm glad to be here at all.) that was wonderful, but if not, she made sure it wouldn't change the relationship we had with one another. As a kid I can't imagine the amount of damage it might have done to me in the long-term if she had panicked and desperately tried to get back someone who wasn't there anymore. Or, god forbid, acted like it wasn't a real thing and didn't take it seriously. In the end things slowly came back, bit by bit, but some things stay despite it. Not all sorts of memories are stored in the same places, and such. My situation was multifaceted because my genetic condition is a mess, but feelings still remained, and stuff like muscle memory tends to stay intact too, it all depends on what part of you gets suddenly affected by something awful happening. It's... a genuinely terrifying experience, really. Even moreso when you look back on it in hindsight. As people, we are... well, ultimately, largely the sum of our memories. To lose them, especially to lose nearly *all* of them like I did, is to almost to die and have a new person take over your body, unaware of everything you used to be. I'm... just really thankful that the core parts of my personality stayed intact. That's always been my worst fear. Even if I forgot everything I ever knew, I don't want to lose the things that intrinsically make me, well, me. In my case, I ended up developing a second person up there in my head out of the clash between my returning old memories and my new ones. (well... and some other trauma during that time I'd rather not get into that...) But... well, I mean, not in a bad way. It's weird to describe. Even though we're similar, Terra really is like another real person and I consider her my sister too, and feel lucky to have her. We share memories, and are certainly similar, but we're like distinctly different consciousnesses and sort of think independently from one another. ...but also you can't exactly think separately from yourself because they're still your thoughts. ...Ugh, how do I even put that sort of thing into words? I think Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade 2 are the best example of this sort of situation I've seen, it was a welcome surprise seeing anyone even remotely aware something like this can even actually happen. c': But I digress. You're an incredibly kind, patient, and also strong person to be able to keep supporting those close to you through something like that, especially your partner. That must have been especially hard and if it means anything I'm very proud of you for staying by her side despite it all. The thought of what a lesser man might have done in that sort of situation is awful to consider. :c

@@Starfloofle Thank you for sharing something so personal so bravely, and thank you for your appreciation, as well. To be fair, my girl's amnesia came at a point where I had already been kinda...."trained" to deal with such a thing. She has...had...multiple personalities. Long story. Trauma caused her brain to split, and (I say the following as modestly as possible) largely thanks to my support, some therapy, and meds, the condition was "cured". However, prior to that, she had three personalities and I loved all of them, and they loved me. To us, that was normal. But eventually, through a mix of support, meds, and professional help, the disorder was...for lack of a better way to say this, "resolved", and her brain snapping back together caused the amnesia. Three brains glomming together isn't exactly something done cleanly. As someone who has suffered a similar affliction, I'm sure you understand how messy the process can be. For her, snapping together effectively erased those three people and replaced them with a new fourth that was, in some senses, once her memories began coming back, a mixture of the traits of all three. Not to say that a loved one treating me so platonically wasn't painful, but I was also dealing with the effective "death" of three loved ones and the effective "birth" of a fourth person who looks like them and doesn't love me that way. The "new personality" aspect was more or less a normal trait for me to have dealt with over many years already, so I was conditioned to understanding and adaptation to three very different personality types before this fourth person manifested. The true difficulty for us was when she began remembering things on her own, I had to remember not to treat her as just a mixture of the three. She went by different names back then, so I would accidentally call her by one of those names instead of her "singular name". She didn't get upset. She understood. But it still felt wrong, as if I wasn't respecting this new identity. Being around someone I've been with for so long while being treated as nothing more than a dear friend was painful, but my mind was more focused on getting to know this new person. She's still more or less the same, but with some of the nuances changed. At the time, I remember telling myself "Okay, first priority is taking care of her and getting to know her new self. Second priority is figuring what to do about 'us'. She's suffering more than I am right now. I can't be selfish or forceful about this." To give you an idea of what kind of person she is, despite telling her my priorities, she INSISTED on forcing herself to love me. Well, try to, at least. Despite clearly being the one in a worse position, she was so hyper-focused on taking care of me that she was trying to force her own emotions for my sake, and I had to tell her to stop. She was willing to lie to herself for my sake and I couldn't allow that, fully aware of the possibility she might never remember her feelings. And in a sense, she never really "remembered" her feelings. As she explained it, it didn't feel like she remembered her affection, she just fell for me again. So this girl has fallen for me 4 different times lol We've taken that as a damn sign lol In my original comment, I said "everything came back to her" just to keep it shorter and simpler. Technically speaking, that wasn't 100% true, but close enough in effect.

@@gagejoseph91 Thank you kindly for your praise. ...Frankly, it's just nice seeing somebody who actually knows what this mess is like. It's easy to go through terrible things and feel like you're the only one who's ever suffered that way. My split with Terra is... different. When we would/should have rejoined, Terra rejected the memories she was recovering, somehow deciding or determining that they weren't "hers." I didn't really come into existence again proper, until later trauma, which I guess spurred a schism of our consciousness. Definitely familiar with the more ""traditional"" form of a fractured mind though, I have many friends like that. Frankly, when you factor in the rejoining and the ensuing memory loss and your scenario, god damn your relationship must be fate-- one does not exactly woo the same lady four times for no good reason LOL Thank you for sharing, too. It's a weird place to do so, but it felt appropriate all the same. My own story is a mess, I could probably write a self-documentary on it. I imagine it's not so different for you, haha.

@@Starfloofle That's for damn sure, feeling like you've suffered and struggled alone. All the more reason to be vocal about such issues and let it be that much easier for empathetic others to see and share their perspectives. Sometimes, just knowing you're not alone is such a relief. Not so much about misery loving company, but knowing that there are people who understand you and can not only validate, but also share in, your emotions. As for the mechanics of how it all occurs, it's not like this kind of thing is an exact science. It's only as exact as all the inexact nuances of being human. When you've got two people sharing a brain, naturally there will be friction. One side may reject the new memories just as easily as anyone else would if they woke up one day remembering an entirely different house than they woke up in. It isn't a simple as "Well, they share a brain, so why wouldn't things just kinda naturally work out when the rejoining happens?" It can be a little difficult to communicate to people who've never experienced it, but it isn't really "one brain." For all intents and purposes, it, is, two, people. Ignore the fact that it is one body. If you took two people and tried to smash their heads together to join them, it'd be a mess. Of course, different cases work differently. I've known D.I.D. people with personalities that freely communicate and switch with eachother on a whim (my girl) and others who have no idea the other personalities exist at all. Sometimes the personalities are functionally identical and simply distinguish themselves by their unique memories, but in other cases, they are so identifiably different that they have different accents and vocal patterns. My girl had three completely unique personalities. One was soft-spoken and innocent, another was boisterous and energetic, and the third was cynical and guarded. I could tell them apart by the tones of their voices. The innocent one spoke very softly with a lot of "um"s, the energetic one was very bouncy and higher-pitched, and the cynical one was deep and direct. They could switch mid-sentence and I could tell in an instant. Meanwhile, my best friend has a male and female personality split and I can't tell who I'm talking with because the only thing that differentiates them is a sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiight change in near-imperceptible nuances like music preferences. The way split brains, and rejoined brains, and the way it all mechanically happens is just as complicated as any human psychology. Trying to predict how a person's mind will handle the change is like trying to predict the exact pattern that glass will break in. No shit lol When she started feeling for me again, we both made the joke that either the universe is trying to keep us apart and we don't give a flying fuck about the universe, or the universe is trying its DAMNEDEST to keep us together. This isn't really relevant to memory loss or D.I.D., but on the topic of "Seriously, against all freakin' odds", the same trauma that caused her to originally split also influenced her sexuality. She's a lesbian, and androphobic. Clinical fear of men. Granted, with my help, she's...mooostly overcome that fear, to the point that she's gone from crying when a man would enter the room to being able to have active conversations with male strangers. Point being that she's an androphobic, amnesiac lesbian and I, a man, have won her over four separate times. It isn't really an ego-stroke for me since it wasn't something I was trying to do, and she's not a trophy, but I can't deny how amusing the whole thing is lol There's "bucking tradition", then there's just pissing all over the rules. Hey, unusual sharing place for unusual folks in unusual situations, right? Whatever works. If the above paragraph didn't make it clear enough, help and comfort can come from the most unexpected places. Life would be boring if we could predict everything in it, eh? If our lives have taught us anything, it's to be flexible and ready to adapt to paradigm shifts. "Talked to a dude about amnesia on a ProtonJon video" is hardly the weirdest thing you've dealt with, no doubt.

As someone who also tries to fill in all spaces (Metroid and Shantae being prime examples), I completely understand your need to fill in all map spaces. No worries Jon, your pain is shared (does that make it better? Idk).

Max upgraded gun for Jason in the original fires glowing bullets that pass straight through walls, enemies, and everything... I think you need a replay of the original to refresh your memory. Also, strafing. Yes they have the ability to do strafing as Jason in the original, just hold the grenade button.

You can actually shoot at the crushers to push them back a bit. I just found that out myself while playing. Also, the crushers aren't an instant death when you get squished, they only do a point of damage.

@@ProtonJon Yeah, I was surprised too. I thought I was going to die when it squished me but I only took 1 point of damage. Pretty lenient! I had the tank half hanging out, so maybe that made a difference?

I prefer the Booster too. Predictable jump arcs make fighting and platforming easier. As for the forced back tracking after Area 3, it's funny, the NA manual for the NES game actually warned you about that. It had maps of the game's levels, including how they connect. And I think a small blurb saying that after you clear Level 3 you should return to 1 in order to reach 4. Definitely one of the better manuals of its day.

Pro: Lots more fun stuff to do in the tank, including bosses! Con: Not NEARLY enough music from the NES game so far. I'm assuming they're saving it for later. When the dark room hit, all I could think was, "Well OBVIOUSLY you need to blast a few aliens until you find a lightbulb for Uncle Fester to use...wait..." And the Photophage boss (NES) was, for a long time, the hardest boss for me. I mean, it seems trivial NOW, but at the time when I was a kid...MAN that boss kicked my ass!

I just wanted to say that it's because of you I bought this game. So, it's your fault I have a new favorite tank platform shootemup hybrid about a man named Jason chasing down his frog named Fred. On an unrelated note, it's also your fault I cry out "where's Froggy. Have you seen Frogy" randomly to my friends but that's a different game altogether.

Honestly, I always felt like Hover was LESS efficient than Double Jump. It felt like you got more immediate height out of the extra jumps for less SP.

9:50 Jon, the max upgrade Wave actually fires two different bullet types; the white projectiles, which are the same as the previous Tight Wave level, and also rainbow projectiles, which will pierce infinitely. It's not because of "sheer numbers" of bullets fired. Of note is, as we touched on in the comments of the first video, the fact that it also had the looping bullet modes, so it was able to fire around corners, and the layouts of the maps also kept that in mind with their design. EDIT: Wholly agreed that the new Hover is better in that it recharges slowly over time/drops are much more common/universal, but I still dislike that the secondary weapons don't use their own ammo, especially since secondary weapons for *Jason* do that now. They should have made a few that use SP meter, but also the regular ammo. Also wholly agreed that the Sophia boss fights are a very welcome addition, though I disagree on your statement that the original boss was bad; it was a combination of a sliding puzzle and the usual gameplay, which was both unique and honestly fun to deal with, if you didn't abuse the grenade glitch.

Jon I love your honesty in your commentary and can now say without a doubt that you switching over to a TRG-like schedule so you have a ton pre recorded ready to go whenever is the best move. I will say the more I see of this the more I want to know if there are plans for a sequel or if there is one already?
